The sad truth is that post people today lack any irl community, purpose or identity. So they latch onto whichever hobbies they are the most active/initiated into. In modding communities this manifests as them being religious about "supporting" any given dev/studio.
But this makes no sense. Nobody works in the same studio as they did back in 1997. You're basically only supporting the publishers when you buy old games.

Selectively, it's looking for the steam_app.dll, S-E's FF7_Launcher.EXE, and then tests with libvgmstream.dll for hash. If it all comes out A-OK, then it'll run. Though if it can't test steam overlay for any reason, it'll crash on run, yet it doesn't check to make sure the steam_appid.txt's number is 1:1...Do with that as you will.

Agree anon. Usually the "copy protection" these modders use are really basic like just checking for a crack or looking for a simple steam file. I think this was the case for a FF7 PC mod. You can try installing the PC mod before you make any changes like adding a crack.
