Why? People say 14 has a good story but I disagree, just play the other games in the series, they're better.
Wow is probably the better mmo but starting it now in 2024 is like, maybe do something more productive
Classic wotlk was the last "hoorah" for WoW, now it's just retail WoW which is so garbage Blizzard literally cut out the final raid and retail-lite (SoD) which is just an unbalanced shitfest with pvp events. XIV is for furries and trannies that is just uncomfortable to be around. Just skip mmorpgs, it's not worth it
I prefer WoW to run around a world and collect things.
I prefer FFXIV to do group content.

WoW is faster but XIV has better pacing for casual play. All depends on what kind of MMO player you are, I personally recommend XIV since all the content can be done with pugs.

Community in both is bottom of the barrel people. Gutter trash for different reasons. Each poison that I would recommend you steer clear from. If you want to play an MMO just play an RPG instead and play something else. You are better off playing Elden Ring for a full playthrough and then play an online shooter or something. The MMO genre is peak goyslop right now. Just wait for something better to come along.
as an enlightened centrist mmo enjoyer, xiv is the better experience at the moment as it requires little to no outside information to play it. aside from the absolutely awful squeenix store to actually buy the damn thing.
worlo retail is made for people who've been playing worlo for 10+ years and is very newbie unfriendly. worlo classic (era) servers are a fantastic experience until its made pretty clear that you won't be progressing past the level cap unless you RMT or stumble upon multiple boe purples to sell. season of discovery has slightly less of this, but as is their wont, the boomers who control this game mode are either packed into instances to level alts or are raidlogging (which means they only log in once/twice a week to do a raid and then not again)

I would say season of discovery in WoW is pretty fun and you can get to the current max level and get some gear probably before they release the next phase of content. Retail is a single player game at this point and wrath of the lich king classic is dead. I have never played ff14 so cannot comment on it.
FFXIV is a more professional presentation and the community feels more active. WoW's community is elitist, they all hate each other and the story is also embarrassingly bad. FFXIV story has its ups and downs (due to having different writers) but at its worst it's still ahead of WoW. FFXIV's community ranges from mentally ill to normal, but since it's so active (especially with Xbox version now coming out) you're likely to find people you can tolerate playing with.

XIV is just 2nd life. It had content that one time in Stormblood and that was it. It is best experienced from a let's play on youtube because very little of it is actually interactive.

Theyre both the same shit. Hell all the Pro-XIV/Pro-WoWgays here should give you an idea of how shit it is. One is the original, one is the clone and both are equally shit with garbage players. The only tangible difference is that WoW has troony devs while XIV has troony players. That's not saying WoW doesnt have troon players but WoW has troon devs that hate their majority non-troon devs while XIV has Jap Devs who ignore their majority troon players.
MMOs are literally beyond garbage, you're actually just going through mmo withdrawal because you got psyop'd into having a good time and you're trying to chase a high that cannot be replicated.
Play old single player games and try to beat them.
Don't play either game. FFXIV has become the one MMO that caters to non-MMO players while pushing actual MMO players way. Offers no long lasting or fun gameplay, something even Yoshi-P has stated is an issue he wishes to address with Dawntrail. No class feels unique with everything feeling like the same thing but with different particle effects within its respective role and thats not mentioning the fact that they're so dumbed down you might as well play a Single Player game.
I can not speak for WoW but FC members that joined in 2.X and above have noted that XIV plays like WoW but if you streamlined everything including the gearing process so take that as you will. Better off playing something else.
WoW's an actual MMO. XIV's a visual novel where most of the players would prefer to go clubbing like it's Second Life, instead of playing the game. So go WoW.
