Oh yeah def suicide
Apollo , and now this dude , why is this always a fricking thing with speedrunners either commiting suicide or becoming transsexuals?
Autism and realizing that they were the flavor of the month and now past their peak.
They can only keep puttering along at $1k per month playing the same game for so long before they realize it's pointless and sudoku.
Spelunky killed him.
He had his moment of glory when Spelunky 2 came out and was the first one to beat CO
But ever since that, viewership kept dangling down.
In the end, despite his best efforts to diversify content with new games, he simply did not have an attractive enough personality to keep people on his channel to make a living out of twitch.
I can't think of anything else more depressing than being a one trick pony for a game everyone forgot about a year after.
Wow. When you put it like that...
Huh... yeah I don't think he could handle the recession in viewers , hell I stopped watching in 2021 and forgot he even existed until his literal fricking death , shame because he was one of the best , rip
i watched every spelunky video he put on youtube and it was amazing how good he was...then he just stopped and posted 3 (?) random mspaint videos months apart
it's clear that he kinda resented spelunky and that he was a one trick
we are reaching the first major era of decline for og channels which should be interesting. look at lethalfrag, one of the first fulltime streamers on twitch, making a post about not making enough money and putting his chat in sub only mode. it will be interesting to see how many people become dsp in the coming few years
I feel bad for streamers who think they will last full time making 2k per month...they need to get their money fast and get out because it's not sustainable for 99% of them
streaming isn't and has never been a real job. it's panhandling, just on the internet instead of in an alleyway. never understood why anyone treats it as a full-time job and not just a side hustle to a real job.
to be honest, i think full-time streaming itself is directly contributing to people's mental problems. dsp was always a greedy pig, but he's become an unhinged paranoid shut-in in recent years. his rambo/howard deboonk stream a few weeks ago made the average chris-chan video look lucid by comparison. streaming isn't a healthy lifestyle.
>never understood why anyone treats it as a full-time job and not just a side hustle to a real job.
Because to actually get ahead on the algorithm on twitch and get an audience, you need to stream something like 12 or more hours a day.
Autism and realizing that they were the flavor of the month and now past their peak.

I find this hard to believe because according to his obituary he had straight A's and a CS degree so it's not like he couldn't find high paying work if he wanted to
It's hard to make the switch over, very few people manage to do it. I only know of one ex-professional video game player that managed to get a software engineering role and he could probably only do it because he spent his money wisely and quit when he was ahead.
>obituary says self employed
it's clear he was trying to do full time streaming. I know a professional melee player who was top ranked in the world but he never did it full time and has a job in finance now. if streaming was around at that time he says he would probably not have gotten a real job. once you work for yourself it's hard to go back to a boss.
How is this hard to believe? Was he maintaining his skills all these years? He'd be back to the bottom of the totem pole. Hard to stomach when you've been successful for years at other things and the bills are coming in. This is a tough nugget for hardworking young people to swallow, but success is more like a bicycle than a destination. You stop pedaling, fall off, lose your chain, or get sick or disabled for the right amount of time (doesn't have to be long) and you're fricked for life. Happened to me. My disability got worse and whoops there goes everything. Fricking sucks but I don't blame the guy if he chose to end it all.
he was probably the best Spelunky 2 player in the world, and he got fame initially for becoming the first player to actually beat all like 97 levels of the Cosmic Ocean in a legendary like 4 hour Spelunky run.
He had a pretty fun series called 'Spelunked' which were various highlights and fails of his various runs and he streamed the game quite frequently
ah, ok. not understanding what this has to do with videogames, but I appreciate the explanation. also want to say that its always a shame when people find suicide to be the only way out.
>not understanding what this has to do with videogames
Well it isn't complete eceleb shit.
He was a speedrunner and the best player of Spelunky 2 in the world.
Yeah obviously that's far more likely.
But I imagine if he was depressed, seeing his former career and fame by completely lost by the passage of time might have played a role in his choice to abandon hope
>get popular playing one game >get burned out >stop playing the game people watched you for >lose viewer count and get depressed >commit suicide
what a sad way to go out
What
Is there any confirmation of this?
Damn
That is fricked. RIP
The way they phrased it sounded like Twiggle commited suicide
>Avoid any speculation
homie what the frick is that supposed to mean?
Frick man, RIP. Spelunky 2 is a legendary game, and he was probably it's best player.
I didn't think spelunky players were capable of dying...Fs in chat

What the frick
Did he commit the sudoku?
This was one of the last tweets he posted so it seems likely.

>shitlunky player, dog humper streamtumor fricking folded the envelope.
LOL. LMAO.
if I was 25 and my art looked like this I would kms as well to be honest
You think that this video is some sort of cry for help?
Depends.
Do we know if he sudoku'ed with a skateboard?
Derek pays his respects.
condolences with emojis seem very disingenuous to me.
One less player.

yes this was a reddit post, no i don't care

You're right about the lifestyle, but if it earns money then it's a "real job".
by that logic, being a homeless vagrant begging for money on the street is a real job.
I find this hard to believe because according to his obituary he had straight A's and a CS degree so it's not like he couldn't find high paying work if he wanted to

There is more to depression than money or a job.
Yes. Not being able to pay the rent because of said money and job.
Kill all landlords or continue crying and being depressed reddit cucks.
Derek yu is a commiefornian woke homosexual, frick him
...who?
Twigglesoft
Never heard of those devs before. Were they behind the Switch ports of the Spelunky games?
he was probably the best Spelunky 2 player in the world, and he got fame initially for becoming the first player to actually beat all like 97 levels of the Cosmic Ocean in a legendary like 4 hour Spelunky run.

He was a speedrunner and the best player of Spelunky 2 in the world.
Maybe he was just depressed and didn't kill himself because of Twitch viewership. I know it's crazy, but just maybe.
Yeah obviously that's far more likely.
But I imagine if he was depressed, seeing his former career and fame by completely lost by the passage of time might have played a role in his choice to abandon hope
people don't become depressed for no reason
At the least in the medical definition, they do. Depression is not mere sadness.
Ganker - video games(?)
sorry, the bihourly troony thread is a few doors down
v - dead Black person storage

May he pugPls in heaven, and I wish his family the best
Literally fricking who.
twigglesoft
Loved his videos. Genuinely sad to see him go.
I just played some Spelunky 2 earlier today. Am I going to be okay? I did get kind of mad on a couple of my deaths.
it's only a matter of time until you are dead too...sorry anon
>get popular playing one game
