NTA but what I gather in Gongaga Tifa and Cloud have a row because Sephiroth has gaslighted Cloud into thinking Tifa is fake and never existed (you can see that in trailer 2). Cloud goes mental, is about to slash Tifa when a Weapon attacks and vores Tifa. Cloud comes to his senses and realizes how much Tifa matters to him
The promo is bait, the scenes from Aerith tripping and her holding Clouds arm are all from her new game plus date, Rebirth's actual story is from the get go very heavily leaning towards Zack/Aerith.

I mean yeah, in Normal you quite literally do not have to pay attention to anything you equip, ability unlocks, dodging, etc... and you'll win. Hard Mode is just "Play The Game" Mode, rather than Watch A Movie Mode, and at the end of the day it was still mediocre. It's marketed as an Action game that utilizes elements of ATB, but in reality all concepts of dodging, parrying, positioning, timing, etc... are completely absent in the enemy design and balance, despite the presence of some of the mechanics. It's a game that spent more time and money dedicated to its fifteen hours of pre-rendered cutscenes than on its game design. Also known as just another Final Fantasy title. Nothing special about it at all, and now it's taking 10-15 years to release from announcement and costs 3x the price. What a joke. fanservice - direction, tripping, angles - which are for players to gush over
and content - what really happens, what is the mood, what is talked about - which is the story despite the direction. This may be cruel but I won't put it outside of realm of possibility that SE could do that and think they're so clever and giving fans fanservice as well.
The truth is that even fanservice needs to be considered inside the realm of what you want to tell in your story, man. They wont make fanservice like that if the intent is to tell a super perfect love story between only Zack and Aerith, see what i mean? I think the implication being is that Zack replaces Cloud for the remainder of the game after he kills him. Cloud will probably be just a background character in Part 3, whether through as a force ghost or something else.
Not really an implication, that's just what happens. Specifically when Sephiroth will successfully mindrape Cloud, and then the player will be forced to kill Aerith in a sequence mimicking the now infamous Nibelheim demo. The idea being that Cloud thinks he's killing Sephiroth, but will then kill Aerith. Then he's just a clone, mentally conscious, but unable to control his actions and subconscious. Enter stage left: Zack, who the player now controls and is forced to kill Cloud.
Roll credits. Zack is now the main protagonist for Part 3. That'll be ¥31,547, gaijin.

Cue the passage of time, the black materia forms holding therein "Meteor", a catastrophized idealization of Jenova's own meteor coming to destroy the planet. The ancients then develop(?) Holy as a foil to it, should Jenova ever manage to fully activate the black materia, providing the planet and its saviors with a means to oppose what is essentially the literal ultimate destruction magic that would otherwise crack the planet open like a fricking walnut.
So the Black Materia was formed essentially on accident? That's actually a reasonable explanation. I almost wish it was canon. It would kinda help explain the Weapons acting so erratic. I mean if you're The Planet (whatever that is) and the entities living on you incidentally, via emotional response converging with spiritual energy, created a planet nuking device, I might want a failsafe of my own too. Instead the lore just kinda leaves a lot ambiguous. Except when Dirge of Cerberus came out, and then it got too specific, to the point where now the Lifestream and Jenova are arguably similar in nature.
I just tried my best to rationalize it somewhat based on the events that I am aware of, I think it "works" as an explanation since apparently Jenova's first onslaught was pretty much completely fricking unexpected and took most of the Cetra by surprise so the great many who died, a lot of which infected with Jenova too, probably, went back to the planet and infused it with their memories / corruption having no idea other than "meteorite fell down and things got fricked" in their heads.
Who knows, maybe I DID get it right! lol but I don't think they'll ever actually delve too much into it, if anything because it's a good thing to leave SOME stuff to the imagination so people can keep discourse alive and come up with their own zany ideas about what's what and why's that.

The affection mechanic is not a zero sum game. You won't ever have to make choices that will please one character which annoying another. You can just pick the best responses and grind everybody to max.
Party members get team attacks based on bond level. I.E. if Aerith and Red are pals they get special attacks.

I mean yeah, in Normal you quite literally do not have to pay attention to anything you equip, ability unlocks, dodging, etc... and you'll win. Hard Mode is just "Play The Game" Mode, rather than Watch A Movie Mode, and at the end of the day it was still mediocre. It's marketed as an Action game that utilizes elements of ATB, but in reality all concepts of dodging, parrying, positioning, timing, etc... are completely absent in the enemy design and balance, despite the presence of some of the mechanics. It's a game that spent more time and money dedicated to its fifteen hours of pre-rendered cutscenes than on its game design. Also known as just another Final Fantasy title. Nothing special about it at all, and now it's taking 10-15 years to release from announcement and costs 3x the price. What a joke. Why the frick did the Planet create Meteor in the first place?
It didn't. Cetra's created Black Materia to summon Meteor in case there was a situation everything needs to be killed

This is my personal idea on the matter so it means jackshit, but in theory materia is "the memory of the ancients given form through lifestream" or some shit like that. I would assume the black materia (Meteor) was formed in the period of time immediately after Jenova's own meteor landed and created the northern crater. After that, Jenova spread itself through the populace and took various forms and infected the people, causing mass casualties a great many of them probably had no idea the cause of + got its own cells in the people who then died and went into the lifestream so it stands to reason it managed to infect some of the lifestream to. Cue the passage of time, the black materia forms holding therein "Meteor", a catastrophized idealization of Jenova's own meteor coming to destroy the planet. The ancients then develop(?) Holy as a foil to it, should Jenova ever manage to fully activate the black materia, providing the planet and its saviors with a means to oppose what is essentially the literal ultimate destruction magic that would otherwise crack the planet open like a fricking walnut.
So the Black Materia was formed essentially on accident? That's actually a reasonable explanation. I almost wish it was canon. It would kinda help explain the Weapons acting so erratic. I mean if you're The Planet (whatever that is) and the entities living on you incidentally, via emotional response converging with spiritual energy, created a planet nuking device, I might want a failsafe of my own too. Instead the lore just kinda leaves a lot ambiguous. Except when Dirge of Cerberus came out, and then it got too specific, to the point where now the Lifestream and Jenova are arguably similar in nature.
I just tried my best to rationalize it somewhat based on the events that I am aware of, I think it "works" as an explanation since apparently Jenova's first onslaught was pretty much completely fricking unexpected and took most of the Cetra by surprise so the great many who died, a lot of which infected with Jenova too, probably, went back to the planet and infused it with their memories / corruption having no idea other than "meteorite fell down and things got fricked" in their heads.
Who knows, maybe I DID get it right! lol but I don't think they'll ever actually delve too much into it, if anything because it's a good thing to leave SOME stuff to the imagination so people can keep discourse alive and come up with their own zany ideas about what's what and why's that.

How is it going to be different from Part 1? I absolutely hated the way they designed it. Go here and stick around, do some boring quests. Now go there, stick around and do some boring quests. I don't know if it opens up or has any big changes but my god did I get filtered hard. I quit shortly after getting to the place Tifa was taken with the carriage, having beaten that stupid house.
You can't turn one location from the original into an entire game without plenty of pointless filler.
Though from what I'm seeing of Rebirth so far, they haven't skimped on the busy work.
