They also didn't tape the trim before painting the wall and did a terrible job cutting in along it. I think it's because you really can't make a version that will be definitively than PC. HL ran like greased lightning on a Pentium 3 and GeForce 3 when it came out on PS2. Any game that's on PC looks and runs better on it. And even if it initially doesn't (early 360 games, arguably) it will in some time.

I believe they perceive it as a loss of value for their purchase. Logically speaking the only "edge" consoles have left are exclusive games. If one purchases a console because of its exclusives and then those former exclusives get ported, they see it as the product they own losing value and they see themselves as losing the reason they bought it in the first place. Obviously this doesn't really make sense. If you were happy to pay in order to play game A on console X then game A being ported does not change your experience of playing it on your console at all, but I don't think they're making their purchasing decisions based on the expected experience they're buying it, they're simply just looking at exclusives. Do this over a few generations and you get a lunatic fanboy, especially if he cannot afford buying multiple platforms.
Spiderman is definitely the sign that sony is going to port everything, it's the game most likely to sell consoles to normalgays and has the most value in being exclusive as a result. So if that's getting ported then nothing is safe

Bloodborne actually didn't sell all that much. Like it made alright numbers, but not nearly as much as you'd believe considering how much people rave about it. Add to that the fact Sony said their main reason in porting to PC is generating interest for its ongoing franchises, which Bloodborne is most likely not considering it was an one-off project commissioned to a third party who's currently riding high and was co-developed by the now-extinct Japan Studio, and overall there seems to be a very low probability of a port actually happening. Same deal with Gravity Rush and whatever other one-off games or defunct franchises you might be looking forward to.

Temporary exclusives are a good thing where most developers are concerned. Doing PS5/XSX/XSS means for every 1 feature you program off the design doc, you have 3 targets to debug and 3 sets of optimisations to do. More programmers tends make a hard job harder and doesn't scale so the more porting is necessary, the higher the likelihood that features and content will be shaved off to meet a deadline. When you add PC to the mix you now have an indeterminate amount of bullshit to deal with as you can't know that there isn't a regression until you test specific CPUs with specific GPUs. And it doesn't matter that it's just unreasonable for people to expect an i3 to fill out a 3080Ti, you'll still get negative steam reviews because "they should optimise better."
So for better quality content in games, you want them to focus on one platform and port LATER instead of lowest common denominator'ing it down to a lukewarm simultaneous release.

PC's aren't scary, expensive, and somewhat uncommon the way they were to the general population in the 90's, so it just works boxes don't make as much sense as they used to. It used to drive a lot of competition and likely lead to a lot of things we wouldn't have had otherwise since moving copies was how you made money, and a lot of the attitude now is basically the inertia left over from that. Now they've figured out that it's pointless trying to make your money through unit volume, instead focusing on getting people to the point where they'll pay $20 for horse armor, shark cards, and anime boobs that took an Indian guy 5 hours to make, which is ironically giving us the platformless world everyone has been wishing for for so long. The PS3's software rates weren't nearly as disastrous as PS5's are though. Factorio is easily superior. DSP isn't even finished, but it seems to have some fundamental game design issues which could very well prevent it from ever reaching Factorio's current greatness even when it's done.

Top 10 problems with DSP? I don't exactly keep a list. The main and most fundamental issue is that they made a logistics game and then added a logistics option that basically solves everything automatically. I'm talking about the interstellar drones, the system is very boring since if you get to it all you need to do is spam stations with hardly any care about where your shit is coming from and where it's going, because the game handles that all automatically. It's boring and uninteresting, as there's no actual gameplay in that system. It's even worse that this is the only option you have, you can't even choose to do something more interesting since there aren't any other options. Compare this to Factorio's own designated long-range logistic system, its trains. The train system in and of itself is a rabbit hole with huge amount of depth, where you design everything from the rail network, the junctions, the signals, the stations, the ways you control trains, the train schedules and all the way to how all those things interact with the other game systems (like combinators/logic).
DSP just made its core logistics backbone nigh-on braindead in a game genre that's about feeding every build with the right materials and at sufficient speed, this is basically a cardinal sin as far as game design goes. Factorio logi bots are also basically OP, but those at least have some downsides and kind of suck for long-range, plus the game gives you other options to use if you don't find bots entertaining. I also don't like how tiny the planets are in DSP, they don't feel like planets at all, just tiny balls. Obviously I don't expect them to make anything on true planetary scale but they should at least be much larger, they should be large enough to actually feel large.

Isn't there something similar happening in factorio with the bug aliens? If you don't make progress fast enough, don't they eventually grow to numbers larger than you can take on? So there's still something of a time limit in both?
Bugs are optional in Factorio. Also this isn't about time at all, you're missing the point again, it's about having options in how you build your base and how it works. In Factorio you have multiple options you can mix and match, DSP has 1 option and that option is bad and boring.
In factorio the bugs are based on pollution level. If you just keep increasing the amount of pollution in the air by expanding your manufacturing without putting it towards advancement then you could wreck yourself. It's not really a punishment for taking too long, more like they pre-emptively punish you for trying to build out what you think you'll need in the later game too early. Which seems a bit shitty as people just tend to blueprint their way through the game to avoid tediously building, destroying and rebuilding to scale up.

I don't think Atari 2600 had games with the mechanical complexity of the ones discussed here, but I do happily play OpenTTD with OG 1994 graphics since the game is excellent even if the graphics are basic and low res by modern standards.

Wolverine seems set as a PS5 exclusive, but if Spidey 2 doesn't get delayed out of 2023 then it'll probably serve as the "swan song" for major PS4 releases. Kinda like how games like MGSV/Yakuza 0/Yakuza Kiwami/Persona 5 were coming out for PS3 well into 2015-2017.

That's just a matter of game design, but business-wise I wouldn't put it past Sony to want to also have a PS4 release for Spidey 2 in order to maximize sales due to Spider-Man's popularity being wide and fairly "constant". X-Men and Wolverine are decently popular, but not having a PS4 release for his game probably wouldn't be nearly as big a loss.
