WAR is a big meme tank job with a 1 button burst.
DNC is easy to pick up but moderately difficult to optimize at higher levels. RDM, RPR and SAM also feel very intuitive to pick up but get sweaty very fast when you scratch under the hood. MCH has a relatively annoying rotation to pick up especially if downtime is involved but once it clicks there's not much more to it, it becomes completely braindead.
All of these are jobs for normal people who just want to play something simple or focus on mechanics or learn how to play the game. Square is also an incredibly inclusive company and brought in SMN to cater to the lobotomized and mentally unstable. It's the easiest job bar none and it has literally everything you can think of. Fricking SAM has more cast bars per minute than SMN.
How's the game these days? Haven't played this since Stormblood
as bpring as it was in stormblood. WoW continues to have the better combat and class system. It's a shame however that everything else about WoW currently is so shit.

If you're tanking and nobody else does the slime mechanic it will release a billion slimes that will explode all over everyone and silence them. If it happens later in the fight it's followed by the freeze mechanic (which will kill everyone) and the breath attack that knocks everyone around the marked player into the air (which will kill everyone) at the same time.
I legitimately do not recall this as a mechanic and I remember doing WoD at launch.

smn summons should give you different buffs that interact with the next one. like let’s say you’d need to do garuda to get haste or some instant casts for slow powerful ifrit fire spells. titan to apply a debuff on the boss for you to leech meter. meter can be used for various things like more instant casts. you will need to save some meter for bahamut so you can weave because demis are no longer instant casts
add some dps refund stack mechanic to phoenix and give it vastly more utility. for example, allow you to replace any one primal with phoenix anytime, which copies the primal potency while giving you buffs such as a fiery revive that also deals damage to enemies and restores the target to full hp or doesn’t inflict weakness, or a channeled heal. bahamut will be strictly always your burst demi and phoenix will be like aegis - an utility cd

Maybe like Phoenix giving a regen buff, other demi would have buffs that won't stack with other SMN's demi so you need to "do the BRD" and adjust. Bishmark giving spell speed buff for example or Ravana skill speed or crit etc etc
Balance trannies would calculate the highest dps buff and pf will screech if you do anything else
if you give smn a skill speed buff, smn will be banned from every single pf for ruining all the tank, melee and phys ranged rotations

Normal raids range between "I have to move a bit" and total snoozefest (that people still keep dying on)
EX is the only good content(and there is a MASSIVE powergap between Normal Raids and EX), Savage just kicks you in the nuts repeatedly to the point where you don't find it fun anymore

Monks are cool, you get to dash all over the place and punch shit. In PvP monks are even better because they throw people down to their deaths with a flick of their wrist and then instantly dash back to safety.
If you're not playing it in high tier content (Ex, Savage), MNK is just a fairly simple GCD-heavy hitter with a fun rotation. The latency issues stem from its low GCD (1.9) and high amounts of weaving during the burst period. This alone makes it very unfriendly for bad connections in high level play, and on top of that it has the hardest or 2nd hardest optimization in the game out of all jobs.
So for regular gameplay it would still be fine then? I don't care all that much about missing out on potential damage, more so I don't want it to feel like shit due to the latency stuff.
Any job is fine for regular gameplay, really. You lose nothing by going with whatever you like. This isn't the kind of a game where one job completely wrecks while the other is dogshit and just blows. They are balanced within less than 5-10% performance difference margins.
It wasn't so much about "performance" more than whether the rotation would feel bad due to bad latency. I like when things have a good flow to them.
NIN would feel awful in bad latency, MNK can be tolerable.

To add on to what other anons have said monk is actually a pretty decent job for leveling since it gets alot of its tools earlier than other melees (you have like twice the buttons of other melee DPS in early ARR stuff) and the class has pretty much all of its important tools by level 60 compared to other classes which can often feel unfinished until they get to the 70-80 range
