The Yanks had good reason to not use that. >Bio Hazard was renamed for the North American and European markets after Chris Kramer, the director of communications at Capcom, pointed out that it would be impossible to trademark it in the United States. Among others, the 1992 video game Bio-Hazard Battle and the New York alternative metal band Biohazard were already using the name. Capcom ran an internal company contest to find a new name. Resident Evil was chosen since the game takes place in a mansion.[37] Kramer thought the name "was super-cheesy ... but the rest of the marketing crew loved it and were ultimately able to convince Capcom Japan and Mikami-san that the name fit."[37] The cover artwork for the American and European release was created by Bill Sienkiewicz.[38]
I agree with Kramer. "Resident Evil" always sounded moronic. I can't believe the rest of the brainlet marketing crew couldn't come up with something better.
>The cover artwork for the American and European release was created by Bill Sienkiewicz
There's a funny bit about that in this interview:

Even for Bill, it was not the cleanest image and it definitely didn’t look like other game box art at the time. There was no way to really change it, so we just accepted it, but a lot of people at Capcom at the time were not super-happy with that art.
i wish Ganker had /gr/
Ganker and /vr/ only boards i visit on this site, because i find no joy in looking into the future, future is dark and scary. i can only cope with retro now
They're both good names. The Japanese emphasizes the later half of the game and science fiction aspects while the US localization emphasizes the opening and horror elements. It also aligns with the conflicting design goals the Western and Japanese developers have had throughout the series history. The Western fans seem to always push for more horror and dramatic tone and the Japanese devs keep pushing for more arcade, shooter, and campy blockbuster elements.
I would call it "moronic Turkey"
People would spend decades trying to figure out if there's some deeper meaning for the name, like is the zombie the moronic turkey, or is it Tyrant, or is it (You) the player? I think it would be funny
I'd call it Wrong board
I would call it biohazard.
>nooo you can't just translate something, you must loocalize it
This. What was so wrong with just keeping the Biohazard name? Sounds better than Resident Evil, whatever that's supposed to mean.
The Yanks had good reason to not use that.

Something like "Containment Breach"
I agree with Kramer. "Resident Evil" always sounded moronic. I can't believe the rest of the brainlet marketing crew couldn't come up with something better.
Only issue with the name is it reminds people of the Shining rather than zombies made by science.
Actually works better for the 1st game since it added to the mystery. You had no idea wether the root cause was supernatural or biological.
The back of the box tells you it's a biotech lab in the first sentence though.
Guess the marketers are moronic then. I never got spoiled due to chipped ps1.
>Kramer thought the name "was super-cheesy
But Jill Sandwitch and the rest of the voice were cool, right.

I remember being introduced to Biohazard as a kid because of this. Which was fun, they're an okay Groove Metal band.
I'd call it >>>/vr/

EXECUTABLE CODE ON A CD-ROM IS A FORM OF TECHNOLOGY.
The Munsters Reloaded
Biohazard was a sick early '90s numetal band from NYC. Grimy as frick, openly racist, a lot in common with Carnivore.
>Viral

>Monster Force
>BioTerror
>BioTerror
Very pulpy, I like it a lot.

There's more than just zombies though.
sure but every resi 2 says "2 months ago... there was an incident... involving Zombies... In a Mansion."
I think we have our title. Just print it in landscape format.
Glad it was changed, honestly. Biohazard is boring and bland. Resident Evil is iconic and unique.
How about calling it "Immortuos"?
Resident Evil
If I didn't leave it as Biohazard, I'd call it Contagion.
Does anyone want a movies anywhere digital code for death island?
