It would of made more sense for events to play out like they did if he was still alive and trying to make a cure with a pure soul to undo the serum, but since they wrote him off as dead everything after becomes logically incoherent.

Its not show in ANY shape or form that a pure soul can fix Kanako either via Chujin's research or any meta gameplay soul power methods either. So it makes even LESS sense as to why Ceroba was so adamant about this being the way to fix Kanako.

Playing devil's advocate, it makes sense for her to THINK that when you consider they didnt bother giving any form of actual scientific background that wasnt being chujin's wife. I think post-war monsters studying human souls at all is just impossible to write because I keep thinking of holes with it. On top of them having no way to actually tell the souls apart from just seeing the person, how does chujin even know the souls they have are "Impure"? His control group can only be the 5 humans who fell before Clover, and they were all Impure, and given how much he fricking hates humans why would he assume its even possible for a human soul to be pure?
Maybe you can argue there are pre-war records of human souls, but I highly doubt that because A) There is NO CHANCE they were allowed to research that when at peace with humans because of the risk of absortion and B) Even if they did how do they still have the records? I'd assume anyone who knows was killed in the war because those monsters have the biggest chance of forming a viable counter, and once again there is NO CHANCE they let the records of that research reach the underground.

It's implied that the way they see you is also not purely physical, like how Asgore can't even recognize a Lv 20 child as human. It's not farfetched for a monster studying someone closely to be able to gauge something like that.

I mean if we're being real here the whole "boss monster" thing was super contrived to make you extra have to kill Asgore in undertale, and sort of narratively sucks, it could be omitted entirely and it would change barely anything, and what it does change would even help Undertale, since necessarily the existence of Boss Monsters also brokenly apply that within living monster history they were killed for research due to the utterly specific capacities of boss monster souls.
Personally I think what people came up with here that Boss Monsters and Human Magicians are halfbreeds is way more functional since it explains both Boss Monsters being exceptionally physically strong, and only a very rare few humans having the capacity to use magic.
Plus imagine if you're in a world where monsters and humans are running around and you know, monsters are a bit scary and use magic but are otherwise completely outmatched by humans physically and suddenly Asgore exists, that shit would start a fricking war.

Ignoring the character deletion of pacifist is fine - You kind of have to if you want to respect any of the three afterwards - but Ceroba takes the dissonance especially hard because its literally the climax of her character arc. She tries to kill Clover, is only stopped by brute force; not reaching into her conscience like the player does with Asriel, you have to BEAT HER INTO SUBMISSION in order to get her to stop trying to murder you, and even before that she knows full well that she's killing an INNOCENT as the requirement for her plan is a pure soul.
She had potential, I liked her Wild East interactions even if Steamworks made her a bit overbearing, but I feel like she either needs to be heavily rewritten to be likable or commit an act of repentance, which, she does the OPPOSITE of in the pacifist ending.
She's just soured for me as a character. I like Clover too much and hate how dirty he was done. Having Ceroba act like she cares for Clover after the fight and say "BTW I actually did enjoy going through Steamworks with you even though I was totally planning on killing you later teehee :)" is in extremely bad taste, even ignoring what she did directly after saying that. Not even mentioning how hard she blows up on you if you kill Axis, the killer robot that's after your life, in self-defense.

There's no way they could of overlooked this or at the very least not realize just how badly it comes together logic wise and not tweaking what was already in place so that it would actually work.

I always thought observational monsters can just tell if there's something wrong with someone, or at least that LV can frick with their perception to some degree so they can at least recognize its absence. In UT pacifist run a lot of characters make a big deal of the fact that you never hurt a hair on anyone's head even when you could, and in genocide run Asgore completely fails to recognize you as human

I actually just finished reading that one like half an hour ago, it was honestly pretty haunting. The writer really made him feel like he was a real guy who felt pressured to frick himself up for his family's sake, and kept pushing through his bad choices because he felt he had to until he couldn't anymore. It was pretty brutal the way Kanako and Ceroba reacted as he kept getting worse and worse

The issue are the fetch quests, it really drags out the game. The original Undertale didn't have this problem because Toby Fox understood it would shit on the pacing so he made the game as straightforward as possible.
I think there's a distinction to be made. The Ruined Home fetch quests were total fricking shit. Shameless filler that wasn't funny or relevant and didn't flesh out the characters, unlike the dates in Undertale.
Koffin-K's were much better. You have a narrative reason to do it, being kidnapped and gang-pressed into minionhood. They serve a useful purpose from a gameplay perspective: getting you to explore Koffin Keep. There are multiple ways to solve the quests and it even becomes relevant later which ones you picked.
The only issue really are some of the fetch quests, some have good subplots while others are actually get this for me, thanks heres 10g
And also the segment in koffin ks manor where its actually like 20 minutes of no gameplay fetch quests. Everything else is great I think
I absolutely loved it, although the koffin-k segment definitely dragged the pacing. Definitely not going to do every quest on my first full run when that comes out though, there's a LOT.

You could still do it if you just made the other character stay where they are when you switch control. Just have a check to return to follower mode requiring that the span of pathable distance between Kanako and Cole is short, and have the other character ignore pathfinding to just run straight to where they should be. People will 100% forgive that

when I was programming the followers I originally went with the pathfinding agent solution Godot offers (A* pathfinding made easy, basically) but it gave me so many issues in relation to speeds and teleportings, that I tried finding a different solution and ended up just using the snake/earthbound like UTY actually does with some very subtle interpolation/lerp to account for longer distance positions or resets
Banjo-Tooie solved this by making splitting up only possible at pre-determined locations with the character pads, and making the character stay where you left them when you switch control instead of coming back

Evacuation's an aborted Genocide route
In some ways it causes even more chaos than genocide, because monsters get so confused at you killing them and then acting friendly that they're on the verge of civil war by the end of part 2.
It also gets Sans way more pissed off than genocide. On geno he's still making an attempt at the superhero kayfabe but on evacuation he fights in his civilian clothes and keeps asking the player directly what the frick is wrong with them.

Yeah, my goal is to try to make an easy to understand skeleton for Undertale fangames in Godot so people don't need to waste time making the dialogue system, inventory system, battle system, etc. from scratch and can just focus on assembling the actual original content.
Ah I see, that's a wonderful idea. It was absolutely a pain in the ass for me to redo all the systems from UT just to get into content production, so that would be a great help for anyone else who needs it

how do you plan on making the cutscene system? I personally just hard code everything in script, tried making a modular one that could be done in inspector but it felt too limiting
Keep in mind I'm still learning so this is all subject to change until I reach a finalized version, but so far what I have is each cutscene is an AnimationPlayer, I use some code to put everything in place such as making the player walk to a specific waypoint so the animation can take over afterwards. For example in this webm, when the player touches that big Area2D, controls are stopped and the script leads the player to an invisible Marker2D, once that tween is done, the animation plays, which leads to Flowey popping up and then calling Dialogic to start the dialogue.

I know this is a VERY stupid question but while I did find a solution for moving characters in my cutscenes I'd be glad to hear how someone else did it as the way I did it makes me feel very dumb since its extremely barebones

Well, in reality it's actually not the player but a substitute sprite that does all the cutscene stuff. Also, I intentionally did not do diagonal movement, as it looks kinda weird when it's not the player doing it. So the sprite just moves either horizontally or vertically until it lines up, then it does the other until it reaches the marker. I set the animations accordingly based on where the player is heading. After the marker is reached it's all smooth sailing as you can now animate directly from the AnimationPlayer since now the animation knows exactly where everything is.
Oh yeah, forgot to say, I used tweens for that. Tween until you reach the marker's x/y position, then tween again until you reach the other one. And once the second tween ends, tell the animation player to start the show.
I see. I didn't want to change the sprites for cutscenes as I wanted to learn how to make a system that lets me use the same entities that are used during gameplay and cutscenes at the same time.
I have an Event Manager autoload that has a bunch of methods meant for animating and activating methods on NPCs and the player. I don't substitute the characters during cutscenes as the approach I went with lets me use their animations and methods from their normal behaviors, most notably, the player, by directly moving them while they're in their "cutscene state" (followers like Ceroba and Martlet have a following state and a default state meant for cutscenes, for example, and I can switch them on the fly). A cutscene still has an animation player timeline but instead of directly moving the actors/nodes, I just tell the event manager to do it in real time by finding the stuff it needs at runtime. *This is not ideal* and I still need to switch the animations when the characters move while also setting their movement paths by position coordinates but it rarely breaks and isn't reliant on me making extra character nodes or scenes. Of course I'm still going to improve it but it works relatively well for my use case and lets me make cutscenes quite fast, while most importantly letting me use those methods mid dialogue
Well, technically you don't HAVE to replace them to do what I do. As long as the AnimationPlayer is able to reach all the involved nodes, they can still be animated as far as I know.
The main idea is that I wanted to keep those methods useful for use during dialogue so I didn't need to make an animation for every mid-dialogue animation. So if a character starts to talk I can just set them to the talk sprite or something within the dialogue progress without having to make a whole animation. I can, in theory, make a whole animation using the dialogue but of course it makes sense to use an animationplayer to make bespoke animations when needed
If by mid-dialogue animation you mean the overworld sprite opening and closing its mouth, then yeah, that's being set and unset by the dialogue itself, the animation player can't exactly control that because it's subject to the state of the dialogue.
Yeah. Not all NPCs have talking animations but the ones that do I can set them via the dialogue itself, that sort of stuff but I can do other stuff too.
I don't really know if I'm doing something that's both dumb and complicated for my situation but it does work well so far for what I need so I don't really... know? For now I'll keep doing this.
I'm not in any position to say what's best or what's more efficient, I'm just following my gut until I find a problem. in DR we just dont know what happens to a monster after death, and darkners run away in most cases...
BUT there is a damage type that has the ability to kill darkners, snowgrave has this damage type.
when using snowgrave (and the twisted sword for that matter) on regular enemies they turn to dust (or red mist).

is even in DR's code and present in two "unobtainable" items has pretty big implications.
my plan for DRY is to give both cole and kanako an "execution" ability that uses a lethal damage type.

Switch keybinds to something more comfortable or use a controller. Most people will say controller sucks, and it does, but I found it way easier to learn with d-pad + face buttons. AUs have been done to death, and another very common issue is that the characters are frequently butchered which is something ts!underswap avoids,
because its legitimately close to Toby level writing. A prequel fangame however? Yellow is one of a kind and since they avoid using the original cast of Undertale they mainly avoid not ruining them. The story definitely needed more time in the oven and we needed some more encounter variation in some rooms, but a completely new adventure is more interesting than Undertale but characters 1 and 3 and 2 and 6 and 9 and 4 have their roles reversed
People care, it's just hard to compare an unfinished AU game to UTY's finished originality.
