The only way we'll meet Papyrus is if it's in a Dark World, that way he won't recognize Kris as a human. Otherwise, he'll have a frame of reference for what a human is supposed to look like in Undertale, which he canonically doesn't.

Plus the closet being a closet lends itself better to having a hidden dark fountain, I don't think you could say the same about a well lit library room.

Kris is the Knight and their body is also partially possessed by someone else (possibly by Dess). We've only been playing with Kris from the start of Chapter 1, so why does he have a birdcage and know about removing his soul and trapping it? He's dealt with possession before we ever came into the picture. Whatever other soul he's dealing with is protective of Noelle and hates us for doing the Snowgrave route so I'm saying Dess.

How would that work though? Kris stabbed the house and the fountain clearly coated the entire living room in darkness. Every other fountain that was in a room (aka all of them so far) has included everything in that room in the dark world in some form.

Maybe that's part of the conflict? It gets harder and harder for kris to move things to the closet as time goes on to the point he has the entire town after him because he cant leave the place alone. It isnt too hard on paper for it to be possible he can move some stuff over, Toriel has to be involved in some way so she'd be informed of the world and she's Kris' mom she'd do anything if it meant Kris could finally have some friends in his life, but will still draw a line at moving Chairiel or the entire TV

Late response but, you do realize Martlet stated she was a member of the Royal Guard right? Regardless of her personal actions she has sworn fealty to King Asgore, the same man who ordered the killing of multiple human children. It's not about her specific sins, she is on the side meant to oppose you for fighting back. If you didnt deal with her then she could blindside you later, she might team up with Asgore and make freeing the souls that much harder. He HAS to kill her, she stands in the way of Justice outright and that alone is enough to deserve death by that point.
Remember, Clover SPARED her in their first fight because she asked for a cease fire. You dont use actual mercy but Clover genuinely puts his gun down and lets Martlet retreat becuase he knows by all accounts, he attacked first regardless so it's only Fair he stop. Plus you dont have to hit her 4 times for her to back off, if you use an act and then attack she starts fighting right away hell I didnt even know she didnt fight back immediately otherwise because I always felt it was right to apologize before fighting

Professional work acknowledging fanworks is a legal minefield. Neil Gaiman had to ask his fans to stop sending him fanfic snippets because even those messages could be used as evidence in litigation if some shipper got a wild hair up their asses.

we've already met, or been made aware of the Knight's identity, it's mystery novel 101 (and if you read Umineko front to back you'll be able to figure it out too). it's someone close to the Dreemurr family, what kind of emotional, tragic impact would there be to the great reveal of the Knight's identity if it was just some shut-in who moved in last week? we, the player, know Papyrus, and all the things about him, but the characters in-universe don't apart from sans, who's also just shown up. Dess, the missing child, could be opening fountains in a way to claim agency over herself from a strict and controlling mother, perfectly matches the theme of your choices mattering or not; or it could be the mayor herself, who I shouldn't have to explain how an iron-fisted, no-nonsense tyrant who puts tons of pressure on her surviving child, would be representative of the negative impacts of control. having it be anyone else would lack the intense emotional impact and eventual catharsis for all the pain the two families went through
spring, I'd say. probably a release before the end of summer. I'd say they're getting close to translation, not starting it yet but things are close.

I can't find the newsletter but I'm pretty sure the scripts for 3-5 got sent out for translation months ago. They just do that before the game is actually done.
I'm thinking in the latter half of the year, dual development for 3&4, while planning 5, collabs, and working with the Game Maker dev team probably slowed down 3&4 alot.

I don't know if they updated it, but it's really easy to frick up a genocide route there since the game never tells you when you pass the point of no return like it does elsewhere, and leaving any robots alive aborts it.
The lack of a warning is still present, yup. Just as long as you never go into the computer room where you can shut down all the robots right before the room you fight Axis in, you'll be fine.
Just clear out the areas as you enter them in genocide, it's not that hard. Game tells you when an area is devoid of encounters.
Although adding onto that, it can be worth it holding off on that in Snowdin because if you do it's the one time you get access to an unlimited shop inventory on genocide without having to abort it and you can get a better defense item if you're willing to sit through the devs entire undertale remix mixtape

That doesn't disprove the idea that someone else was using Kris's body before us. The fact that Kris can't do it now is the major point. We're not even pressing any keys ourself, we're given a choice and tell Kris "Play the Piano" and Kris plays it badly. The fact that Kris is upset at it is trying to tell us that Kris isn't doing it on purpose like he does in other situations when he fricks up on purpose.
While I don't like the "Kris is possessed by another entity that isn't (You)" theory, it does hold some water.
The SOUL birdcage has seen use before and has blood stains on it (but that could have been Kris experimenting with his SOUL before, assuming he had one).
The weird piano concert just for Noelle also might be hinting at traces of Dess (she played the guitar, if the Holidays had a piano, she would have played it too) within Kris, and a voice that is likely Dess speaks through Spamton ("It sounded like they were talking to you."), so it's within imagination that Dess could also semi-consciously act (like an amalgamate) through others at certain points, especially if you believe Kris was soulless at the time.
There's also the movements that you don't input, but Kris shouldn't want to do either, like nudging Noelle towards the electric gate in the Snowgrave route.
However, I think it's more interesting if Kris is the one fighting (You) for control, as it makes Kris himself more of a character more than just a blank slate for ghosts like Frisk mostly was (I also happen to enjoy Kris' character, from what we know of him so far). I also believe Kris is the Deltarune version of Chara, but I don't think Kris holds the same hate that Chara did, the same way Deltarune Asgore doesn't want to kill human children (probably).

Even in Chapter 1 Kris has shown that he has an idea of how things are going to go and is still making plans ahead of time, thats not just in Chapter 2. He blocked King's attack toward Susie because if she got hit she'd be too hurt to go back to the closet tomorrow whereas Kris is fine because he's already a walking corpse essentially pain means nothing to him (or specifically us), and he ate the entire pie at the end of chapter 1 so that Toriel would have to bake another for Susie, on top of whatever unaccounted for time he spent after that considering he didnt get a lot of sleep that night despite us bringing him home before nightfall. Add onto the fact Kris has a save file on a fresh install before you make your first save and it's pretty clear a majority of the game's info is already known to him, the fountains would be no different
