Okay, might as well start early. The translation is fine. While it does allow a bit too many liberties at times, it's one of the least offensive localizations in the recent years.

The gameplay is promising, in the sense that the early stages aren't that interesting but I can definitely see the potential for more depth down the line especially as stages get bigger and have more going on. The visuals and music are great. The translation sucks and is basically my only complaint aside from some things like the guard stationing not being explained well because I still don't know when I'm supposed to get the rewards from having people posted.
The four important dudes (the squads with 3 stars) in the prologue are kinda interesting. If you approach them, you get a short dialogue between them and the respective members of Ilenia's squad.
This is the least offensive translation comparison I have ever seen.

That's fine. It's stylizing the exact same words so it doesn't sound monotone while also not giving the characters saying it a completely different personality or injecting politics.
It's a timed demo, just experiment, that's part of the fun. You can juggernaut a lot of it like FE, however don't think you can just be moronic about it and make your spearfu the juggernaut, you do have to consider matchups.
The best advice I can give you is try to beat the overworld mock battle dudes with a "!" over their head. You'll see them. Making an effort to beat them will teach you the game and there's a reward for it.
Also items don't cost an action AND THEY'RE FRICKING INSANE IN THIS GAME, so pay attention to them, but keep in mind you can only use 10 per map.

March of the Black Queen has aged incredibly poorly. If you've never played either, play 64. It's objectively the better game in every regard.
OB64 is my favorite game of all time and my time with the UO demo makes me think it'll be a close contender. It feels better in every regard except tone/atmosphere.

The game is genuinely fun to cheese and you have to think about how to do it. It's funny, at first the boss was doing that to me, until I figured out what would make me ninja him. I was glad to see the map doesn't end there though.

It took a few tries to get it down to 0. Ultimately it's about manipulating initiative and buffs to spread damage around as efficiently as possible. I have a strong but "slow"ish gryphon, and she kept attacking like 3rd or 4th, wasting a lot of my speedier backline's attacks on the knights, when she was capable of one shotting Renault's row by herself.
In the end I just bought a Dove Plume, put the War Cry ring on her, and used the Dancer Ring to buff her further. Used items to get damage to 0 were the anti-nullifying consumable (forget its name) and the 30% attack potion (can't remember names).
Liking it so far. Like other anon, system has a lot of potential. Biggest issues I have are >The game has the Fire Emblem problem where you eventually get bored of the attack animations >You lose big titty preist at the start. This may not seem like a lot, but losing a unit outside of perma death in a SRPG is lame. Fire Emblem does this right by making the units special and clearly not normal ones (I.e. I've put more hours into this demo than I have a lot of full games. Since I'm consolepleb and can't just break the timer I've restarted it and kept checkpoint saves to explore different parts and do different things. Vanillaware never misses.

I don't think it was intended but you can unequip and re-equip characters at any time between battles. So you can do something like send two units toward different objectives, equip your best items on the team that will have a battle first, then after their battle, re-equip those items on your other unit before it gets to their battle.
I think it was intended, and yeah I didn't realize you could do it until 2/3 the way through a second run. It's completely game changing, but the fact you're not able to do it at the actual point of standaoff makes me think it was intended. I used it to take make Fran kick Gaston's ass with the best equpis, then take it all back + her axe before she left.
Like the game but am I really expected to micromanage every aspect of this game at all times? I managed to go by with just setting up squads between missions it in the demo on normal but I imagine expert to be a real chore.

I love Vanillaware's art style and I'm just excited to see more of it really. Enjoyed everything I've played by them, and based on the demo, I'll like this one as too.
It's not drawn by the same artist, it looks like a washed out ai prompt of his work, with a grey filter. If the chinese made a mobile clone of vanillaware it would be Unicorn Overlord.

No, no, you actually have a point. Sure, the complaints about translation are nothing new, but no other threads get spammed daily like this. You have to beat an entire ass map to get the Ring. S rank isn't just handed to you in Engage like it's been in previous games. And it was more in the sense of Engage in combat with the enemy" rather than getting married.
Everyone already agrees Fire Emblem is awful. Fates and even Engage still suck. Engage is only good with the fantl at Varishangout. Fates still has ways to go sadly. I am still pissed the headpat minigame was taken out.

what do you guys think of the exact battle outcome being shown before you even battle? It's kind of an odd choice, usually in other games you'd see it as a percentage chance.
I don't know how people have gotten the idea that the battle predictions are exactly 1:1 what will happen. I have had a couple battle results that were not as they were predicted. Like when I was doing Auch's mission for the first time I had a prediction where Alain, Clive and Josef would barely survive the fight while only leaving Auch alive to clean up with a 2nd squad. So I said frick it and did it and Alain's unit was wiped including Josef.
The battle predictions are just good approximations of what you can expect to happen, but they're not 100%
I played the entire content in the demo through freezing the timer and I think the prediction was always completely accurate when I skipped the battle animation (which I did most of the time aside from boss battles where I wanted to see the conversation)

I'm on my second expert playthrough, same thing happened to me. Was halfway through witch level. Now I'm going again and now that I know how to play the game and what resources are available, I'm blazing through my second one. Made it back to the witch with 3 more hours to go.
Sure, but they have specific roles. She's a bit of a melee assassin who can directly target the back row but is tanky against infantry because she flies. Josef is a hybrid healer / tank that can eke in some damage when he's not needed to heal or guard others.
i put them in separate units to babysit but yes they're fairly strong. ochlys starts at like i think lv5 or 6? so she's not as strong as josef but just being a promoted class grants her 2 ap, 2pp and an extra accessory slot which is still really powerful

I more or less suck at these games so the normal mode provides enough challenge for me. I make enough mistakes as it is so I don’t need the game to bust my balls too much
It's important to constantly swap up your teams, gear, and tactics if you wanna stay ahead. Stage tactics are important too, who are you gonna set as your leader, is using an assist worth it, how are you going to deal with the opposing side's assist, etc.
So far the hardest difficulty was on the easy side for me, but I like to take my time and optimize team setups etc. It doesn't feel like I could get away with just mashing random teams against it, the stages do require you to think about how to use your squads/items/abilities, and this is only the early game so I'm optimistic the full game will be even better

The game is pretty intense on the most difficult difficulty.
And you have pretty constant moment to moment decisions to make. People complaining about the game being some kind of autobattler really made me expect otherwise. It's not an autobattler at all.
Is this one of those demo saves carry over into the main game deals or what? I skipped the story bits just in case I'd be forced to go through it all again.
My guess would be that Triangle Strategy uses a lot of unoptimized UE particle effects, like the Switch seems to mostly struggle when there's a lot of fire or other effects on the screen

The gameplay is promising, in the sense that the early stages aren't that interesting but I can definitely see the potential for more depth down the line especially as stages get bigger and have more going on. The visuals and music are great. The translation sucks and is basically my only complaint aside from some things like the guard stationing not being explained well because I still don't know when I'm supposed to get the rewards from having people posted.

It's a timed demo, just experiment, that's part of the fun. You can juggernaut a lot of it like FE, however don't think you can just be moronic about it and make your spearfu the juggernaut, you do have to consider matchups.
The best advice I can give you is try to beat the overworld mock battle dudes with a "!" over their head. You'll see them. Making an effort to beat them will teach you the game and there's a reward for it.
Also items don't cost an action AND THEY'RE FRICKING INSANE IN THIS GAME, so pay attention to them, but keep in mind you can only use 10 per map.
Everyone in a unit gets full experience, so don't be afraid to put your shitters in Josef's team to get them some free levels.

They did. I think around the release of the DLC they also did an art-style update. I'm not sure what the portraits looked like before the update, but they look passable now.

The game is genuinely fun to cheese and you have to think about how to do it. It's funny, at first the boss was doing that to me, until I figured out what would make me ninja him. I was glad to see the map doesn't end there though.

It took a few tries to get it down to 0. Ultimately it's about manipulating initiative and buffs to spread damage around as efficiently as possible. I have a strong but "slow"ish gryphon, and she kept attacking like 3rd or 4th, wasting a lot of my speedier backline's attacks on the knights, when she was capable of one shotting Renault's row by herself.
In the end I just bought a Dove Plume, put the War Cry ring on her, and used the Dancer Ring to buff her further. Used items to get damage to 0 were the anti-nullifying consumable (forget its name) and the 30% attack potion (can't remember names).

I've put more hours into this demo than I have a lot of full games. Since I'm consolepleb and can't just break the timer I've restarted it and kept checkpoint saves to explore different parts and do different things. Vanillaware never misses.

I don't think it was intended but you can unequip and re-equip characters at any time between battles. So you can do something like send two units toward different objectives, equip your best items on the team that will have a battle first, then after their battle, re-equip those items on your other unit before it gets to their battle.
I think it was intended, and yeah I didn't realize you could do it until 2/3 the way through a second run. It's completely game changing, but the fact you're not able to do it at the actual point of standaoff makes me think it was intended. I used it to take make Fran kick Gaston's ass with the best equpis, then take it all back + her axe before she left.
I figured that out when a movement skill got me stuck in a stalemate until everyone in the unit was level 10.

Like the game but am I really expected to micromanage every aspect of this game at all times? I managed to go by with just setting up squads between missions it in the demo on normal but I imagine expert to be a real chore.

Engage was just weird with the localization. Part of the damn title was Engage, but they tried to turn what was literally giving an engagement ring to someone into a friends forever ring or some shit, while pretty much ripping most romance out of the supports.
They specifically did it to all the romantic supports that were 16 or younger, despite the fact that the protagonist of Engage is in the same age range, because somehow romance in that age range is wrong and evil.
You have to beat an entire ass map to get the Ring. S rank isn't just handed to you in Engage like it's been in previous games. And it was more in the sense of Engage in combat with the enemy" rather than getting married.
Everyone already agrees Fire Emblem is awful. Fates and even Engage still suck. Engage is only good with the fantl at Varishangout. Fates still has ways to go sadly. I am still pissed the headpat minigame was taken out.

It's not exact. I've had a few battles that came up differently from what was advertised. What you see it most likely though
I don't know how people have gotten the idea that the battle predictions are exactly 1:1 what will happen. I have had a couple battle results that were not as they were predicted. Like when I was doing Auch's mission for the first time I had a prediction where Alain, Clive and Josef would barely survive the fight while only leaving Auch alive to clean up with a 2nd squad. So I said frick it and did it and Alain's unit was wiped including Josef.
The battle predictions are just good approximations of what you can expect to happen, but they're not 100%
I played the entire content in the demo through freezing the timer and I think the prediction was always completely accurate when I skipped the battle animation (which I did most of the time aside from boss battles where I wanted to see the conversation)

It goes down while in battle and on the map, in the menus it's paused. I don't know about mid mission menus though. Shops dont count as a menu.

Sure, but they have specific roles. She's a bit of a melee assassin who can directly target the back row but is tanky against infantry because she flies. Josef is a hybrid healer / tank that can eke in some damage when he's not needed to heal or guard others.
i put them in separate units to babysit but yes they're fairly strong. ochlys starts at like i think lv5 or 6? so she's not as strong as josef but just being a promoted class grants her 2 ap, 2pp and an extra accessory slot which is still really powerful

None of the images comparing the JP writing to the localization have bothered me so far. Yeah, they're trying a bit too hard, but it's perfectly fine besides that.
The tryhard localization is the main issue, but it's barely an issue. I'm just content knowing this game has one of the better localizations in the industry.
I'm going to need to find a way to farm honor so I can hire a bunch of mercs. Sucks that the same resource used to unlock and expand formations is the same one used to fill them up. I had to hire a soldier because I literally could not afford anything costing 5 honor

Mercs are identical in every way except getting dialog with rapport (they still get the stat bonus)

I've only ever seen them come at level 2. I think that's what the experience tomes are for. Also leveling up a unit from scratch is not very hard if you just put them in a tough squad

You have to go to different forts/towns to recruit the other gendered unit. Soldiers/Warriors/Swordmasters/Sellswords are gendered.

Unicorn Overlord is repairing either bridge (SW or SE), and one of the NW towns has an NPC to buy 20 Corsite Stones every 3 days.

I more or less suck at these games so the normal mode provides enough challenge for me. I make enough mistakes as it is so I don’t need the game to bust my balls too much
It's important to constantly swap up your teams, gear, and tactics if you wanna stay ahead. Stage tactics are important too, who are you gonna set as your leader, is using an assist worth it, how are you going to deal with the opposing side's assist, etc.
So far the hardest difficulty was on the easy side for me, but I like to take my time and optimize team setups etc. It doesn't feel like I could get away with just mashing random teams against it, the stages do require you to think about how to use your squads/items/abilities, and this is only the early game so I'm optimistic the full game will be even better

My guess would be that Triangle Strategy uses a lot of unoptimized UE particle effects, like the Switch seems to mostly struggle when there's a lot of fire or other effects on the screen
