Are magick missile and icebolt the only spells that have been found in the demo? I'm a huge magicgay and I'd like to know more about how the spells work. I assume by the coloration of the skills that they're treated like normal attacks?
Different mages have different attacks but otherwise yes, they are treated as normal attacks
So witches get ice which freezes an enemy until they're hit but mages get fire that does increased stacking damage the more times its applied

Holy frick I am just now realizing because of this thread that you can customize the tactics of each unit.. I feel like a moron. On the bright side this game just got 10x cooler, I legitimately thought I was just stuck with whatever default setup each character had.
now you have begun to unlock your true potential. here's a couple of simple conditionals to draw inspiration on. not necessarily good, just having fun tinkering >thief in front with hoplite in back who only guards the thief when he is out of pp or being targeted by an archer >fighter set to use dancer's bracelet unless there are archers in enemy squad so he can block arrows instead >cleric set to use active heal only on one party member to feed ap to them to attack more
unrelated but I realized near the end of my playthrough that fighters can block any ranged attack, not just arrows, so that's all attacks from flying units too
they'll only cover 1 person so the other backrow people are still getting fricked by gryphons, row cover is locked to advanced classes like legionnaire
sure, but we haven't fought angels yet but we will and they have single target attacks. also it might be worth blocking for a squishy guy in that row since there are some classes that can take a hit from a gryphon and others less so. we should all be in the brainstorming phase to imagine new ways to use conditionals instead of trying to make established meta when we don't even know how half the classes play or what most of the advanced classes or items get.

Another simple one is for Josef, you can adjust the healing so that he does more/less of it, and adjust/turn off his defensive passives so that he just uses his points on Pursuit. Getting 4 attacks out of Josef alone every combat really helps things out.
NTA anon but nastiest combo I have running is Witch+Wizard+Cleric and Thief frontline. They job to archers and swordfighters, but other than that it obliterates groups like nothing.
Wizard is just a wizard. 2 Fireball actions, the top priority one having "enemy not burning" as one of the conditions, meaning he always tries to debuff a new target instead of finishing off an existing burning enemy.
Witch has a Carnelian and Chlorotic staff. She prioritizes hitting enemies not burning with Magic Missiles, or Icebolt if there's a single target. Her only PP use is Fire Burst, setup so she preffers to Fire Burst burning enemies, or otherwise executes low health enemies if no one is burning.
Cleric only heals on emergency, otherwise she exists to Active Heal the Wizard and Sorcerous Connection both casters (has the Familiar's Choker for the skill and a Lapis so she can buff both casters).
i like 2 griffs + shaman and then either a warrior or a witch (witch is usually better)
griffs prioritize 2+ target rows and backline
shaman has lines for passive curse to debuff archers first if present, or else highest initiative 2+ row, so the 2 griffins can murder entire rows with their aoe. warrior/witch is just there to kill hoplites, witch actually adds a ton of damage to griff's aoe
you can also get the angel initiative item it gives a row like 10 initiative and doubled if it's fliers. you can then also give her the blue necklace for the extra pp which will either give 150 magic potency or a truestrike on next hit so it will cause a aoe nuke at level 10.
that combo is dogshit >thief + hoplite. = cant kill shit. >thief + knight = KILL SQUAD.
always have thief using it's pp steal and you can either do dancer bracelet so it always juices your knight or pursuit bangle for extra chip or counter for more dmg. and whenever you encounter a truehit enemy just switch the knight and thief formation for that fight. 9/10 times you will win the fight and keep your thief alive.

In the end i used it on josef so he could get 3 magic strikes per battle since his pursits where doing 1 dmg due to his low attack.
also not sure if natural guards proc impactus since by the time the 69% guard chance procced i was out of pp.

Save her's as a preset. Then load that preset when you're editing it for other characters. You can use the pieces from Scarlet's even though you haven't unlocked them yet.
In a sense it's kind of like a little puzzle game, where you create a scenario with the setpieces (your formation) and your enemy, and you kinda have to solve it. You're given knowledge of the result, there's no random damage, the hits are called before hand. And now you have to shift things around and move your pieces on the board and find the solution. Some of my favorite games are those that gaslight you into playing a puzzle game without knowing that you're playing a puzzle game. I really like it.
All the Vanillaware games have had decent gameplay (even Grim Grimoire was great), the issue has always been the padding. That's probably less of an issue with a more open-ended strategy game like this.

i'd want to see him elaborate why it's strong. taking 20% avoid or defense isnt much when the stat numbers are so low in early game. her innate passive is kinda dumb when she already outspeeds everything. and enemies rarely have a 2nd ap to make the initiative boost matter.
The game's easy enough on expert that you can still use whatever unit you like. I just put her as a tank on my team with Berenice and Clive.

Ochlys is a prepromote and has inherent flight. She's a good unit as far as the demo is concerned.
The optimal way to use her right now is to gear her with the Counter Belt and a +Evade item with Accelerate turned off.
Just put a Fighter in the backlane set to exclusively parry arrows targeting fliers and she's golden.

I don't see a whole nother map as realistic if the endgame probably starts around level 40 or so and the max level is 50, but I'm sure there will be a lot of content
What I imagine could happen is that it either spawns some new location that's about as big as another region (like underground or classic JRPG floating continent stuff), and then maybe there will be NG+ or some postgame stuff

yes you can also move around your units formation and it rerolls hits. sometimes a hit becomes a miss. also lets say you usually have a thief and a knight paired up. if you fight archers move the knight to the front. and thief to the back. usually it results in a overwhelming victory instead of a dead thief.

You counter armored hoplites with the magic weapons you get early. Nothing can stop this team
idk looks kinda meh, it has poor damage against non-infantry. but i've also noticed that the enemy gryphons in the demo don't actually target your backline, if they did, they would hit this unit pretty hard, it seems to have a major gryphon weakness

Nah. I would expect all the girls in the OP's image to have some kind of romantic implication if they get the Maiden Ring from Alain. Every other character is kind of up in the air though. The ring has to tie into something and it seems like the most obvious thing to do a paired ending for Alain and the chosen character because you can only give the Ring to one character and there is no take backs, so it isn't just a stat bonus thing.

Female sellsword promotion has a shield, but male sellsword does not. Just an artistic difference? Or they will be different?
Female swordmaster also has two swords, while male swordmaster doesn't. This might seem irrelevant but what characters wear in their sprites is directly tied to what gear they equip. Ilena, for instance, equips two shields; her sprite has a shield in each arm too.
I'm pretty sure Magellan and Aramis aren't promoted here. We've seen male Sellsword and Swordfighter promos and they have shields and two swords respectively.

Are magick missile and icebolt the only spells that have been found in the demo? I'm a huge magicgay and I'd like to know more about how the spells work. I assume by the coloration of the skills that they're treated like normal attacks?
Different mages have different attacks but otherwise yes, they are treated as normal attacks
So witches get ice which freezes an enemy until they're hit but mages get fire that does increased stacking damage the more times its applied

Holy frick I am just now realizing because of this thread that you can customize the tactics of each unit.. I feel like a moron. On the bright side this game just got 10x cooler, I legitimately thought I was just stuck with whatever default setup each character had.
now you have begun to unlock your true potential. here's a couple of simple conditionals to draw inspiration on. not necessarily good, just having fun tinkering
>thief in front with hoplite in back who only guards the thief when he is out of pp or being targeted by an archer
>fighter set to use dancer's bracelet unless there are archers in enemy squad so he can block arrows instead
>cleric set to use active heal only on one party member to feed ap to them to attack more
unrelated but I realized near the end of my playthrough that fighters can block any ranged attack, not just arrows, so that's all attacks from flying units too
they'll only cover 1 person so the other backrow people are still getting fricked by gryphons, row cover is locked to advanced classes like legionnaire
sure, but we haven't fought angels yet but we will and they have single target attacks. also it might be worth blocking for a squishy guy in that row since there are some classes that can take a hit from a gryphon and others less so. we should all be in the brainstorming phase to imagine new ways to use conditionals instead of trying to make established meta when we don't even know how half the classes play or what most of the advanced classes or items get.
Thanks for this reply! I am starting to see some crazy potential now with all these different conditions. The Thief/Hoplite combo seems hilarious, can't wait to try these out.
Another simple one is for Josef, you can adjust the healing so that he does more/less of it, and adjust/turn off his defensive passives so that he just uses his points on Pursuit. Getting 4 attacks out of Josef alone every combat really helps things out.
NTA anon but nastiest combo I have running is Witch+Wizard+Cleric and Thief frontline. They job to archers and swordfighters, but other than that it obliterates groups like nothing.
Wizard is just a wizard. 2 Fireball actions, the top priority one having "enemy not burning" as one of the conditions, meaning he always tries to debuff a new target instead of finishing off an existing burning enemy.
Witch has a Carnelian and Chlorotic staff. She prioritizes hitting enemies not burning with Magic Missiles, or Icebolt if there's a single target. Her only PP use is Fire Burst, setup so she preffers to Fire Burst burning enemies, or otherwise executes low health enemies if no one is burning.
Cleric only heals on emergency, otherwise she exists to Active Heal the Wizard and Sorcerous Connection both casters (has the Familiar's Choker for the skill and a Lapis so she can buff both casters).
i like 2 griffs + shaman and then either a warrior or a witch (witch is usually better)
griffs prioritize 2+ target rows and backline
shaman has lines for passive curse to debuff archers first if present, or else highest initiative 2+ row, so the 2 griffins can murder entire rows with their aoe. warrior/witch is just there to kill hoplites, witch actually adds a ton of damage to griff's aoe
Nasty, didn't think about that. A witch buffing +50 potency is potentially equivalent to +150 potency if it hits an entire row, yeah.
you can also get the angel initiative item it gives a row like 10 initiative and doubled if it's fliers. you can then also give her the blue necklace for the extra pp which will either give 150 magic potency or a truestrike on next hit so it will cause a aoe nuke at level 10.
that combo is dogshit

always have thief using it's pp steal and you can either do dancer bracelet so it always juices your knight or pursuit bangle for extra chip or counter for more dmg. and whenever you encounter a truehit enemy just switch the knight and thief formation for that fight. 9/10 times you will win the fight and keep your thief alive.

In a sense it's kind of like a little puzzle game, where you create a scenario with the setpieces (your formation) and your enemy, and you kinda have to solve it. You're given knowledge of the result, there's no random damage, the hits are called before hand. And now you have to shift things around and move your pieces on the board and find the solution. Some of my favorite games are those that gaslight you into playing a puzzle game without knowing that you're playing a puzzle game. I really like it.

All the Vanillaware games have had decent gameplay (even Grim Grimoire was great), the issue has always been the padding. That's probably less of an issue with a more open-ended strategy game like this.

Ochlys is a prepromote and has inherent flight. She's a good unit as far as the demo is concerned.
The optimal way to use her right now is to gear her with the Counter Belt and a +Evade item with Accelerate turned off.
Just put a Fighter in the backlane set to exclusively parry arrows targeting fliers and she's golden.
Once you learn to play with the tactics things like arrows become less scary and more fun to plot with. I appreciate you can change them as you go to. Was there a way to load presets?

yeah you can save tactics into profiles too. kinda necessary with some of the units like josef. what im wondering does every class have an advancement?
no. she is kinda dogshit. low damage, iffy dodge tanking. maybe if you invest HEAVILY into making her work. there is a bow that gives like 20 or 30% crit to flying units. then give her the dancer item after every hit she boosts her crit chance and damage by 20% and maybe a red necklace? she might be able to do a big hit by turn 3 but you could do the same with a griffin knight.
There isn't much to grind, it takes a few minutes to run around and grab the shards if you are starting with 15 of them.
She's good, she literally does more damage than a griffon rider if there are only rows with 2 people

yes you can also move around your units formation and it rerolls hits. sometimes a hit becomes a miss. also lets say you usually have a thief and a knight paired up. if you fight archers move the knight to the front. and thief to the back. usually it results in a overwhelming victory instead of a dead thief.

Female swordmaster also has two swords, while male swordmaster doesn't. This might seem irrelevant but what characters wear in their sprites is directly tied to what gear they equip. Ilena, for instance, equips two shields; her sprite has a shield in each arm too.
I'm pretty sure Magellan and Aramis aren't promoted here. We've seen male Sellsword and Swordfighter promos and they have shields and two swords respectively.
