Anyone have any tips for the final Galerius fight? I'm limited to 4 man teams and if I don't kill him fast enough I'll get murdered by a swarm of bestrals hungry for meat.

But doesn't he have that gear that lessens poison damage?
His hp is so high that poison still outpaces his healing after a couple of ticks. Burn needs to be stacked heavily to beat it alone. Also remember that mounted flyers can hit him for 300 damage with 1 ap.
Poison does some percentage of hp as damage, I forget how much exactly but his hp is so massive that even a 10% tick is like 40-90 damage depending on difficulty
I'm in True Zenoira
It's normally 33% or so I believe, maybe a bit more. So even reduced by 80% is 6.6% which should be about 80 or 90 on TZ. Burns can stack though, so they still should be decent too. I know there's a webm of someone stacking like 10 burns on him to kill him.
You only need one unit who can burn and a few who can stun. Berengaria, Vanguard and Elven fencer are the best. Can also use the Crush Axe from the beginning if the game. Just make sure you set their commands to “Not Stunned” so that he gets an action.
Did it, final party was Alain, Aubin, Travis and Lady Melisandre of House Meillet. Only made Alain use cavalry slayer while he was poisoned for half the match, then once he reached 50 HP I used it while he wasn't buffed. Aubin kept stunning him while travis drained his PP and poisoned him. Mel was in charge of tearing down the shield, everyone in the backrow had poison immune gear since he'd only get a chance to do his poison row attack once in the match after Melisandre took his shield off but before Travis drained his PP. Had to make Clive run into him because I was low on Stamina so I could switch out with him. Now I can finally enjoy the rest of my TZ run with absurdly high leveled Cornia characters...
Also I'm noticing that I'm missing a ton of backgrounds for the class registry, is there any online list for them?

Yeah Soldiers/Sergeants are pretty unexceptional. They can at least give mages crits on their charge AoEs, since they can't benefit from the conferral tomes.

Chloe is a decent filler unit for team comps.
If you're up against calvary she's great for fricking them up. She gets better later when she gets all her skills or you give her a flame javelin.
She's also absolutely great for pulling off meme charged attack strats since you're not losing too much by having her be the one with the cat hood.
The class is also helped by having a a useful valor skill for when the RNG on what was previously an easy win rerolls spectacularly poorly.

while I didn't use that whole team, I do have a "Utility team"
Its a Gryphon, Fencer, Elven Archer, Viking, Shieldshooter. I have the gryphon and shieldshooter in front(Shield shooter set to only blocks ranged attacks). Viking blows horn to ignore blocking.
There isn't any deep theme to the army, but it does have a lot of damage variety, and its map abilities are all pretty helpful, since you have a fair amount of magic damage, aoe damage, and ignore guard.
I had a squad with a Bishop leader who did not see much combat but being able to offer healing assist to make tanking archer assists easier made pretty useful just to have around
Feels like many people sleep on healing assists, they are not flashy but they really help you in a more subtle way.
Healing assists are fantastic, I just hate how slow having a healer leader makes your squad. You basically have to load it up with one healer and oops, all cav.
And even then you're wasting a lot of cavalry mobility.

Given these 5, I'd put the gryphon and shieldshooter up front and have the shieldshooter specifically cover the gryphon from arrows. Personally I wouldn't call it ideal and I'd rather have someone sturdier up front. Beyond that they can all just do whatever since a properly set up gryphon can carry most units.
This is actually pretty close to the veggie squad though, especially if you dump Leah and replace her with someone else. Virginia herself can't get gays off of towers but can basically ignore ranged assists if you let her take the lead. Remember that withdrawing and redeploying a unit when they take a base is effectively instant and free, and can let you change the leader at will for no cost.
Yeah in terms of raw growths, Shieldshooters are actually pretty dependent on shields for the physical defense, having better magical defense growths. They're such a unique generic class, though, and since they scrapped the musketeer in the concept stage big fricking crossbow will have to do as my favorite.
Of all the classes I think they benefit the most from a meteor weapon, since their base HP is pretty low but they still seem to want to be in front.
I generally prefer the Zenoiran Knight Bow, since their guard rate is usually already pretty decent, and raw defensive stats benefit them more.

That shit seems like an oversight to me. If you dedicate your backrow to Rosa, Yahna, Elto you will just nuke everything that doesn't blind/stun you at the start of battle.

Same reason people have Berengaria and Virginia together, early/mid game they don't get any. Without grinding you are exiting Elfheim at level 24.

When approaching Alcina on the map with Eltolinde I think she had a line saying "you brought my body double here? thanks". Though im not sure if it was because she was in group or if it was a standard line.
Either way I try to keep things consistent with whats happening in the story.

This strategy works well and it's a lot of fun. Can easily take out 2-4 enemies on average before they even hurt you. Composition still leaves you with 2 extra spots for healers, buffer or additional attackers as you like.

they have some dodge tanking capabilities but since their back up skill only blocks melee attacks it can be unreliable at times.

Killing scouts and flying units. You can buff them with the gambler coin and they'll kill most things without a shield. Buff them with a sorceress or other magic damage and they can deal with those too. They're very weak to ranged or flying attacks however.
Make use of the twenty horribly obsolete swords the game gives you that still have useful effects. 11 mt sword that keeps refunding you the ap it uses and decreasing crit rate until you stop critting? Poison/fire swords? Sword effective against fliers? Magic sword that doesn't give enough magic at this point? Swordmasters can use all of them effectively, as long as they're holding a better sword in their other hand.
You know you can upgrade all those later right? They all end up with 25 strength. Including the mason hammer, which went from dogshit to amazing in a second.
With a swordmaster you don't need to upgrade them.
Yeah but Swordmasters promote at like level 13 and you don't get to Albion until the early level 30s, so I'd rather make use of them until then.
They're one of the few units that have unconditional true hit built in.

What sword has the best active skill for Gilbert?
None, let him use his buffs as he's supposed to. Give him a +initiative sword like he starts with.

Well, if you really want him to have an attack after he buffs. Then give him something with cleanup potential. I'm gonna say go with a runic blade, since magick attack isn't bad, and he has a solid magic growth. It will let him help with armored enemies if you dont have any solid way to kill them in your team.
Gilbert realistically just needs to pop off 1 Offensive Order and the fight should be over after a round of attacks. I can't think of an attacking skill he'd need to use...but he technically has one anyway.

Because I'm minmaxing him and 2 ap is better than stacking more initiative he doesn't need when he already goes first. There has to be 1 good attack he can make use of. Probably a burn weapon.
He's seriously better off stacking buffs. The banishing slash is good if a hoplite has some serious defense boost but either way don't overthink it.

He gets two actions to buff and every following action doesn't do anything without a proper weapon.
I'm going to try Dancer's Delight. That lets him do more potential buffs for if his team ever goes late.

He's already going to be spending his first and probably second Action on buffs. Burn works best when you can apply/stack it early on.
I honestly think something like a First Aid Kit would work better. Gilbert comps should be looking to sweep enemies even without Gilbert contributing one single rapier thrust. But for the occasional situation where it *can't*, healing/resurrection would help it keep chugging along a lot better than extra damage.
Minmaxing him is using 1 Offensive Order, maybe a Rapid Order if you're too slow, very rarely a Guard Order if you can't avoid a hit, and then smashing everything into the dirt. Extra AP on Gil is just...a waste. He's not going to get a chance to attack on any competent team.
The issue with burn or poison is that they're worthless if you use them late in the battle(Unless you use one of the wizard canes that do aoe damage at the end of a battle)
So I wouldn't go with either of those.

I have no ap problems on my other teams so Gilbert getting 4 doesn't hurt anyone.

its the Bastorias dodge clock that refunds PP at night, +atk +crit damage after dodge accessary and the mega poison sword, I have no idea what they are called in english.
I see passive steal and poison from travis, travis and alain evading, and alain using a skill I can't figure out. It gets increased potency from poisoned targets I'm guessing, but I don't remember seeing anything like that in the game. Backline confers quick action and inspired to alain at the end too, so that he can cast is giga attack a second time with some extra damage.

The mechanics to make really crunchy builds are both fun and interesting to test and see play out. The visuals are just fricking tops. The worst the game has is the story is passable, and could use some work in a future installment.

True Zenorian mode, unlocked after you beat the game, essentially fire emblem mode, they die, they are gone, but only if the entire squad wipes, if just a unit wipes, you can still use revive orbs or resurrect skills.
also i think it limits items per "level" so there is an actual risk of losing units
TZ limits you to 5 items per map, down from expert's 10 per map.

Any classes that go well with thieves?
Maybe I'm just shit at making teams but I haven't found a good use for them.
Either as evade tank or specific challenge fight ap/pp stealers.
I used mine mostly in the back row, pp steal and then used the dancer ring to buff everyone else.

In early game thieves are just dodge tanks that eat PP and don't do much besides dodge
In later levels they gain access to a row wide blind attack that cripples front rows, he also gets a start of fight single target move that inflicts like 3 debuffs on an enemy including the all important passive seal which is fantastic for crippling specific targets in the backline that pose a threat to your party. You'll have to regularly fine tune their tactics to match the scenario you're fighting because of all the different ways they have to cripple enemies, some more useful than others depending on the enemy party.
Thieves are so versatile they'd go well with just about anyone but breakers, pair Berengaria or whichever character benefits from their row blind. or kill their one weakness, swordmasters with featherbows. seriously someone in vanillaware has a hardon for this class because they're simply too good

No idea, the wording was heal % hp when using active skill, so I'd thought I'd combine it with a healer using heal but I don't think it healed the healer.

I'm having a LOT of fun playing Astra: Knights of Veda; if anyone is thirsting for more Vanillaware experiences, I recommend it a lot. Main campaign lasts 30-35 hours and the art and animation gets better as it goes. It's a beat em up; 2D Genshin they call it as it's mechanics and growth progression are similar; It's free, and it's a gacha. It have a general.

It's pretty much what Vanillaware could be if they had a bigger budget. Not a single NPC in the whole game is repeated. Bonkers amount of work as everything was hand painted. The action in cinematics and gameplay are also of great quality.
Me personally? I have played korean games for a good portion of my life. Any new korean F2P that released, I played back in the 00's. I was also forged by Nippon Icchi games, I love the grind.

Korea has made hundreds of great videogames anon. Among the best ones released right now (and without delving in the past) I can count DJMax which is pretty much the best rhythm game in PC, as well as all the Limbus Company universe that constantly gets talked about in any niche RPG conversation.

The art alone is worth the experience, but the mechanics of it is what makes it so satisfying to play.
Half the reason I enjoy games like this is because theres at least some kind of "risk" involving characters. When its a gachashit you can safely conclude that nothing will ever happen to characters, especially waifus, since of course they can never truly die off or have a fatal resolution since they'll want you to spend cash rolling for whatever nonsense they have.
Not in this case anon, as several characters in your party are DEAD, and it isn't a spoiler. In a siege of a castle against a mad king you are rescued by the goddess of War and Destruction, resurrected and given The Book of the Death. With it you are able to summon the knights of Veda to give you assistance; you control them summoning them as you deem necessary. Their stories are told in their own quests. Not everyone dies of course.
This is an extreme summary of the first hour or so of the game. Like I mentioned before, this is a dark fantasy world, a TON of people die left and right, but there are also towns full of life and community.
There is all kind of gacha anon; at this point it's just another game model than a limitation.

To remove from my tactics, waste of PP compared to following slash or bull force. Not every skill a class learns is inherently useful to them, meteor slash is suppose to be the "ultimate" skill of swordmaster but no one would ever run it over keen edge unless they don't know better.
meteor slash is often able to get a kill turn 1 when when keen edge fails to do so

Frick why is this still so fun? Over the years I had a few multiplayer games that I booted up for a match or two if I didn't have time for a full session but needed to relax, but now UO battles are replacing that. Now I'm even tempted to break up my knight team and put them in other units.
I know the feeling, just finished my TZ run and after 225 hours all I'm left feeling is "Frick, I wish I could keep playing". Fortunately I have never played a srpg like this before so I have the actual Ogre Battle games to look forward to but I know those are their own thing and not quite just UO but old school. I've been huffing massive copium praying for new difficulties if modding is out the window but I'm losing hope.

I know what you mean, but I had the opposite approach; I wanted to spend as much time as possible in my first run through the game, wasting time messing around in the heraldry menu, overthinking my teams and their tactics and equipment, going back to the registry and just admiring the backgrounds a little here and there, etc.
