There is something like that, I think. Need to test it too. For instance, I've had Melisandre parry a melee attack, be hit by a pursuit, have another PP and not parry the (melee) pursuit. I'm not sure yet if there's that ruling tho, but I'd say from observation, one action can proc a single PP action from a certain character.
i don’t know it’s fricking broken. i think guarding passives doesn’t activate the free pp. i had alain and a random unit on one side and a swordfighter on the enemy side. sword fighter triggers its passive hit alain blocks it but doesn’t get so even tho he has 2 pp. then she attacks with ap and he blocks again.

From a triggering action, only one PP action per character may activate. Despite having 2 PP, Hodrick first procs the one in the 1st priority slot (Guardian), and only on a second triggering attack he procs Guarding Impetus.
A single action can proc the PP action of multiple characters, but only one from each character participating in the exchange.
Unless you're going to avoid threads like the plague on launch you'd benefit more from playing the demo so you can be at the new jump off point on launch
Lowest HP picks the lowest numerical value
Lowest %HP picks whoever's closest to death.
For example, if you had a 18/18 HP Scout and a 20/30 HP Fighter
Lowest HP would pick the Scout
Lowest %HP would pick the Fighter
So in a more extreme example, if there's a boss enemy with 85/90HP in the same row as an enemy with 45/45HP, Lowest HP% will make everyone target the boss character with the moves tagged as such?
Just thinking if there's an enemy hoplite, that'd totally frick up your lowest %HP conditions. But on the other hand, if there's a thief lowest HP is bad. Guess you just have to change it depending on the situation?
Elf frickers will reign supreme in the short term but as the coomers drop out it'll fall to Drakenhold and Albion long-term. Furries will remain a constant unfortunate niche.

Yeah. I fricked up on the thief guy and my 2nd clear save was blitzing recruiting everyone but didn't read shit because time constraints. I think I'll just start fresh again on the full game and ignore the demo saves.
What the demo has taught me is that speedrunning the game by just skipping fight animations and cutscenes (for which there are built-in shortcuts) is very easy and efficient, so first playthrough will be by-ear and if I want to do a 100% completionist run later it won't be as painful as RPGs can typically be.

I had one save where I had farmed a frick ton of divine shards and shit but then I realized I would probably not have that much fun on such a save so I started over again and played normally and that's the save I'm going to carry into the full game
What's everyone's setup for Alain? I find him to be an insanely effective backline tank, since Luminous Cover + Lean Edge is basically just a free block, and Cavalry slayer is kind of bonkers at shutting down anyone with the misfortune to be riding a horse around him.

Anyone who gets good stuff at level 5 is good for an immediate level spike. Alain is an example. Luminous Cover dramatically increases his options in combat.
At +3 levels the highest level enemy in the squad your exp gain gets tanked
The ideal path through the demo is the one which allows you to maximize exp gains in every mission. I got my Alain to like level 17 by doing this
Just back yourself into a wall and force draws for a boss encounter of the map. You'll take minimal damage and scale up to +3 that given boss encounters level.

That's not that strong. Gryphons are devastating because they hit an entire back row of squishies. The class that will be countering that is Legionnaire with Row Guard.

Except they won't be able to hit that entire backrow because Fighters will intercept one of those hits. On top of shutting them down with their taunt.
They will hit 2 out of 3 of the backrow unless the fighter himself is in the backrow.
Legionnaire will block the whole thing regardless of where he is.
The taunt seems good, but I'm not sold on the arrow guard yet.

Arrow Guard working on literally any physical ranged attack which is basically archers, fliers in general and whatever random nonsense such as Javelins is a massive amount of targets.
Also, stopping a complete backrow wipe goes a long way especially if it stops something like a Cleric from dying since that can just let them do something like Gravekeeper Boots + Revive.

But cleric, for instance, already has the tools to survive backrow wipes herself in the form of Lifesaver. Just requires some tinkering with the conditions.
My point is that the restriction on "Ranged" seems to be amazing, but it's actually kinda meh. It's strong now while we aren't promoting, but the second we have better backline defenses, fighter will fall even further behind other defenders. Not to mention they are significantly squishier than hoplite, despite having the same weakness to anti-armor class.

For example, Fighter teams can pull ungarrisoned units out of formation with provoke. Hoplites can't.

I think it's the opposite. As teams get more AP and fights last longer, going last in the first round of AP spending seems less detrimental. Grave Impetus is better than Lifesaver because it gives you the extra AP to do whatever you want right after that.
Furthermore, if you are relying on Lifesaver to keep your Cleric alive, then it means that the Fighter can keep a second character alive. Which means that your flier nuke only did any real damage against one unit instead of 3.
Swords are also superior equipment options than Lances thus far due to a wide variety of effects that they offer.

There are attacks and passives that consume 2+ AP/PP. Going first in a round is generally better than going last because preventing an enemy from doing anything is better than reacting to it.
Instead of having to protect an entire backline, why not just taunt the attack to your row and cover the other guy instead?
Instead of attacking into all of those evades, your Shaman can just go first and drain their PP ahead of time.

I don't think so at all. There are two magic lances to one magic sword, there's - PP Column attack for Lance but only single target for sword, and there's a True Strike to Column lance and no sword. Sword has some higher damage ones (Like Black-iron) and the graveyard quest sword but I'm not considering that one as it's just busted and probably not going to your fighter. I didn't say it wasn't generally better, I just said as AP increases, it might be less worse. Of course it is better to go first, except for circumstances where you want other units to setup for the one going later.

AI as it is right now prioritizes the front row over everything because they particularly use the gambits well. Backline wipes are practically nonexistent in the demo unless you had a particularly weak frontline. Besides, the existence of stuff like the Angel Hunter Guard and Shamans exist to stop row ganks.

Active Shatter from the Crimson Eppe has the same utility as the -PP spears, except worse, because the -PP spears either hit a column (Valkyrie), or they change damage type entirely to magic(Phantom Knight's), which is often better than physical.
Of course the regular skills of the character using a magic weapon suffer, but that's true for swords and spears, can't really single spears out there. The -PP spears are just objectively better than the -PP sword. >Witches can just cast the Truestrike buff. None of that has any bearing in a comparison on what utility the weapon type itself brings. Yes, there are plenty of ways to get true strike, but Spear is the only weapon type that has it baked into an equipment piece all the weapon's wielders can use. The only sword that gives a truestrike hit is Stingray and it's Swordfighter only, excluding the vast majority of sword users.
The only utility exclusive to swords that spears don't have an equivalent is poison slash.

Here's the thing, spear users have inferior initiative than the majority of sword users.
Your lancer might be able to drain AP from an entire column, but the worse initiative means that you need to waste an accessory slot on a dove plume to prevent more annoying targets from acting. If you're worried so much about the backrow, then let Ochlys have the Crimson Epee. She converts all of her attacks into ranged so its easy for her to single out whatever you with with the right setup.
You also generally want your truestrike bot to act before the rest of your team, especially when it comes to scouts because you're just wasting damage opportunities. So, no they're not objectively better than the swords by virtue of what they're tied to.
Also, Swordfighters don't actually need Stingray for Truestrike. They have it baked into almost their entire kit.

Yes, the initiative discrepancy and advantage of going first for -PP skills is true, I'll give you that.
And yes, swordfighters have plenty of true strikes baked in their own kit that they don't need the true strike from Sting ray. The point is that's the only sword that gives True strike. It gives to a class that already has. Meanwhile, spears can give true strike to classes that lack it, better suplementing their weaknesses with itemization.

The opportunity cost of using the truestrike spear over other spears will become more apparent as the game goes along, as you will be sacrificing damage and/or utility options in exchange for performing slightly better against specific enemies. Its solid in the early game due to a lack of spears, but by the midgame, the only classes that can afford to use the spear are the ones whose combat don't really matter.

you can kinda have him be a weird healer. sanguine blade always heals on hit and he can share half his hp as a heal with white knight shield. then give him lapis to either guard with arrow twice or share hp.
if a game feels too long for you then that means you're not having fun, im pretty sure i've replayed SMT nocturne and 5 like twice and thrice, and those games are long.
this so much. usually i feel good games are to damn short if anything. or they have great gameplay a great story but once you are done there is nothing left.
Most games are long because the develop needs to turn every simple conversation into a novel. These game, at least as far as the demo is concerned is far more gameplay focused and lets you actually play the damn thing.
hardly any 70$ game has had the content to justify it. i can’t think of a single game that has come close in recent memory. i guess persona 3 but i got it for free on gamepass. baldurs gate 3 definitely delivered on content but that is a 60$ game.
After taking a glance at the divine crystal shop, are you ideally just spending on status boosters for the most part until you unlock the later stuff? There's a ton of stuff in there that looks like it'll only be useful early game but may fall off. Meanwhile stat boosts are permanent and always useful.
pretty much, only equipment I bought was the Cleric staff because it looked decently useful, I won't be autistic enough to swap out for the optimal staff every single battle if I have two squads with a cleric out on the field
the single stat dews are kinda meh. they don’t stack with the all stats dew. but yeah the dew early on are the best bet. the must get item is the angel plume. you negate so much dmg by just attacking first and wiping out the enemies. it gives 20 initiative to a row of fliers (or 10 to anything else)

I've spent most on Carnelians and Lapis. I don't like stat boosters, I always hoard them for later.
I kinda don't really like the realtime gameplay. It feels like way too much of the strategy is just making OP meta builds and kitting out your units and then the actual combat is just "mash your unit into the enemy unit until it dies".

I've stationed guards at every town I've rebuilt, but I dont seem to be getting the material rewards they promised me after each battle. I feel like I should have more than 3 Corsite Stones after clearing a large part of the map, are you supposed to claim the resources or something?
Also, is there any point in delivering goods to towns after you rebuild them outside of honor and gold?
So you find 3 items the first time, and then 1 periodically respawns in that location afterward? Does it automatically get added to your inventory without mention? I've gone back and checked areas again and found an item or two, but most shines have stayed yellow - gonna take a lot of searching to find 30 stones to rebuild that bridge going east

I only want this game to do well because I want a spinoff/sequel called Lich overlord and you play as an evil king building his army of monsters to overthrow the righteous kingdom.

You can change any character's growths, even the uniques. Generics and uniques are completely equal in this game, save for any possible advantages uniques might get through story missions or rapports.
No idea about class changes, though.
Flame Bow + Fireball with Fire Burst Staff is probably one of the most effective squad clearers in the demo because burn damage is insane once you understand how to manipulate AI priority. Its not about whether or not you have personal AoE. Its about how effective you are at synergizing with the rest of your team.
it’s kinda shit. 2 pp to aoe freeze. using regular initiative. using 1 pp to give 10-20 initiative to a row and cleave kill rows? way better and you can give the 50 potency buff at the same time.
doesn't really matter since they have only 100 potency attacks and no damage boosters, my knights and gryphons are hitting 90+ while my warriors are hitting like 30 - 40
The unguardable hammer to the face is effectively their potency boost. They're great armor killers on their own. I'm a gryphgay but I feel like people are getting a tiny bit carried away. They can struggle against anything that isn't mounted especially armors.
i just run 2 griffs with a witch and shaman, magick comferral helps them punch through armor with ease and the hoplites and fighters can't cover the backline because they get debuffed by the shaman
gladiator hits much much harder than warriors in general since they have 200 potency. warriors are specialized anti-ap, they don't hit especially hard against other types of units

Yeah, Chloe is just not worth it. Generics can do her role better because they don't start with fricked up growths and even then the class just feels bad. Can I fix her growths? Yeah, but I could also improve actual good units and make them better.

still thinking whether i'm gonna replace druid with rogue in my gryphon/gryphon/sorceress/druid unit
rogue at least does some chip damage and it mostly fills druid's niche as initiative control and still has a singletarget cover/guard null so the gryphons can murder everything. it also is extremely useful as the unit leader if i don't need flight, having 170 base speed, 6 stamina and quick rest, giving the unit a lot of speed and stamina
on the other hand, druid has row guard seal + def down, which will probably end up contributing more damage than rogue's chip and extremely powerful all-enemy initiative debuff. but i'll be stuck with either 4 stamina or terrible speed and no quick rest either way
just replace shaman and thief for a witch equipped with the angel plume. it gives 20 initiative to griffins. it gives 50 potency buff too and she can freeze annoying units too thanks to the 20 initiative she gets. then you have a free slot to do whatever. you could do thief and have it steal pp and then use it to give attack buffs to the frontline. also the angel item for griffins is strong and lets it counter agility units.
Alright, all the effort I put in to recruit Melisandre was worth it

Hard to say. Do you have the ability to recruit Radiant Knights? If you have gone through the trouble to get Melisandre already, then you should be able to recruit every other unit in the demo. Having access to every class (at least as a generic) seems like the best thing to do.
Another thing I can think of is the treasure maps. There are 4 of them in the mine you unlock in the demo and the 4th one leads you to a unique bow, I believe it was.
Other than that, it's just the sword quest, recruiting everyone, liberating everything and farming divine shards that's left for you. You can probably leave a bunch of that stuff for the full game and just have fun and do the Scarlet quest with your remaining time.
Not just 200 a pop, but one of the most plentiful finds is iron ore, which sells for 250, so getting 5 iron ores in a single round supplies 6 more rounds of mining by itself.
Infinite divine shard factory if you don't mind the time.
God I hope there is a heel turn moment in the story where you can continue to be the good guy or take the Overlord ring and MC everyone. Game ends with Scarlett, Yahna, Selvie, Yunifi, the Elves, Ochlys, Sharon, Melisandre, Virginia blowing Alain while he sits on his throne.
Can't wait to play this for free on the Nintendo Switch emulator called Yuzu which I use exclusively for piracy using encryption keys the developers gave me on their Discord.

in a lot of srpgs the beginning is the hardest part, although imo that's not the greatest sign, usually boils down to puzzle difficulty where you can only find a few right solutions
This game's beginning is definitely on the easy side though, so I hope the mid and late game on expert really force you to optimize and don't just fold in half if you do
Vanillaware usually doesn't disappoint with extra difficulties or postgame content though, so I'm sure there'll be some challenge to be found

you can replay it
it's pretty forgiving within one save, even if you feel like you wasted time you can just reload a save and the clock continues from when you saved. Also you can frick around in the pause menu for as long as you want.
just a heads up but parting blow and other end of battle actions are once per battle only. even if you give the characters more PP they'll only perform the anility once.
beyond that, I'm curious about temp units and exp. do the units in their temporary squads maintain the exp they earn while in those squads? for example, if fran gains 2 levels on the map with the knights of the ashen blue, will she maintain those levels when you actually get her? if rolf gains a level om his join map will he maintain that bonus level when you get him at the end of the map?
you can redeploy them elsewhere immediately, they do not get fully healed right away, I think dead units get revived though, although it might be necessary to deploy them and keep them on the outpost/garrison for a while to get the heal
wait so if some nignogs are trying to capture my undefended home base, i can just redeploy back there instantly off any nearby fort and then redeploy back to the frontlines when i'm done?
this is a literal tutorial point in game. if you leave your home base u defended josef tells you to use the instant go home item to redeploy at base. redeploy doesn’t revive characters. and you do get back your valor point. sometimes deploying someone to pick up shinies and then retreating them is good to let your main unit focus on other stuff

i think what it does is that it gives you a buff that makes you do more damage and have a higher crit chance against enemy flyers. but it works on any ally not just flying allies

i just tested it against an enemy with a gryphon
with the buff on i did the same damage to the enemy fighter as with the buff not used
with the buff on i did 6 more damage to the enemy gryphon than with the buff not used
so yeah it seems like the buffs only apply if you are actually hitting a flying enemy

Scarlett can equip acessories that are mostly Wiz/Witch. So she can be an Ice Conferral bot too, but one that can heal and remove debuffs using AP and not PP (which is for conferral), and remove enemy buffs with an attack.
I guess I'll give the demo another try it seemed like no strategy involved and just sending auto units with really basic ass compositions

Hard to say. Do you have the ability to recruit Radiant Knights? If you have gone through the trouble to get Melisandre already, then you should be able to recruit every other unit in the demo. Having access to every class (at least as a generic) seems like the best thing to do.
Another thing I can think of is the treasure maps. There are 4 of them in the mine you unlock in the demo and the 4th one leads you to a unique bow, I believe it was.
Other than that, it's just the sword quest, recruiting everyone, liberating everything and farming divine shards that's left for you. You can probably leave a bunch of that stuff for the full game and just have fun and do the Scarlet quest with your remaining time.

There is something like that, I think. Need to test it too. For instance, I've had Melisandre parry a melee attack, be hit by a pursuit, have another PP and not parry the (melee) pursuit. I'm not sure yet if there's that ruling tho, but I'd say from observation, one action can proc a single PP action from a certain character.

i don’t know it’s fricking broken. i think guarding passives doesn’t activate the free pp. i had alain and a random unit on one side and a swordfighter on the enemy side. sword fighter triggers its passive hit alain blocks it but doesn’t get so even tho he has 2 pp. then she attacks with ap and he blocks again.

From a triggering action, only one PP action per character may activate. Despite having 2 PP, Hodrick first procs the one in the 1st priority slot (Guardian), and only on a second triggering attack he procs Guarding Impetus.
A single action can proc the PP action of multiple characters, but only one from each character participating in the exchange.

Yeah. I fricked up on the thief guy and my 2nd clear save was blitzing recruiting everyone but didn't read shit because time constraints. I think I'll just start fresh again on the full game and ignore the demo saves.
What the demo has taught me is that speedrunning the game by just skipping fight animations and cutscenes (for which there are built-in shortcuts) is very easy and efficient, so first playthrough will be by-ear and if I want to do a 100% completionist run later it won't be as painful as RPGs can typically be.

What's everyone's setup for Alain? I find him to be an insanely effective backline tank, since Luminous Cover + Lean Edge is basically just a free block, and Cavalry slayer is kind of bonkers at shutting down anyone with the misfortune to be riding a horse around him.

The ideal path through the demo is the one which allows you to maximize exp gains in every mission. I got my Alain to like level 17 by doing this
Just back yourself into a wall and force draws for a boss encounter of the map. You'll take minimal damage and scale up to +3 that given boss encounters level.

That's not that strong. Gryphons are devastating because they hit an entire back row of squishies. The class that will be countering that is Legionnaire with Row Guard.

They will hit 2 out of 3 of the backrow unless the fighter himself is in the backrow.

The taunt seems good, but I'm not sold on the arrow guard yet.
Arrow Guard working on literally any physical ranged attack which is basically archers, fliers in general and whatever random nonsense such as Javelins is a massive amount of targets.
Also, stopping a complete backrow wipe goes a long way especially if it stops something like a Cleric from dying since that can just let them do something like Gravekeeper Boots + Revive.
But cleric, for instance, already has the tools to survive backrow wipes herself in the form of Lifesaver. Just requires some tinkering with the conditions.
My point is that the restriction on "Ranged" seems to be amazing, but it's actually kinda meh. It's strong now while we aren't promoting, but the second we have better backline defenses, fighter will fall even further behind other defenders. Not to mention they are significantly squishier than hoplite, despite having the same weakness to anti-armor class.
Hoplites having non existent initiative will become more of a problem as the game goes along and the existence of a taunt is a lot more valuable than you think.
For example, Fighter teams can pull ungarrisoned units out of formation with provoke. Hoplites can't.

I think it's the opposite. As teams get more AP and fights last longer, going last in the first round of AP spending seems less detrimental. That's assuming they last longer and we don't just alpha strike everyone.

Both fighter and hoplite valor skills are replicable with items so I don't think they are that exclusive to the use of the class, but I'll give you that fighter's is much better

I don't think so at all. There are two magic lances to one magic sword, there's - PP Column attack for Lance but only single target for sword, and there's a True Strike to Column lance and no sword. Sword has some higher damage ones (Like Black-iron) and the graveyard quest sword but I'm not considering that one as it's just busted and probably not going to your fighter. In general, lances are a better weapon type so far.

I didn't say it wasn't generally better, I just said as AP increases, it might be less worse. Of course it is better to go first, except for circumstances where you want other units to setup for the one going later.
Converting PP into AP is a good thing, especially on the class that can eventually revive other people.
Yeah, but they are drastically different uses. Lifesaver is just what makes cleric survive column and Row attacks without protection, it's a defensive tool to a frail caster.

Scouts almost always find themselves in the front row. Witches can just cast the Truestrike buff. Or if your team has a Swordfighter, then those enemies fold like paper to Artenie Strike/Hastened Strike.
That attack also has 0.8x modifier which isn't enough to deal with targets with more HP.

Those have terrible P. Atk which makes Assault Lance worse as horses want to be able to land the killing blow. We also don't have any healing lance users as yet to use the extra M. Atk for support purposes in situations where you aren't fighting.
You're also neglecting the utility of stuff like Active Shatter and Poison Slash.
AI as it is right now prioritizes the front row over everything because they particularly use the gambits well. Backline wipes are practically nonexistent in the demo unless you had a particularly weak frontline. Besides, the existence of stuff like the Angel Hunter Guard and Shamans exist to stop row ganks.
Active Shatter from the Crimson Eppe has the same utility as the -PP spears, except worse, because the -PP spears either hit a column (Valkyrie), or they change damage type entirely to magic(Phantom Knight's), which is often better than physical.
Of course the regular skills of the character using a magic weapon suffer, but that's true for swords and spears, can't really single spears out there. The -PP spears are just objectively better than the -PP sword.

None of that has any bearing in a comparison on what utility the weapon type itself brings. Yes, there are plenty of ways to get true strike, but Spear is the only weapon type that has it baked into an equipment piece all the weapon's wielders can use. The only sword that gives a truestrike hit is Stingray and it's Swordfighter only, excluding the vast majority of sword users.
The only utility exclusive to swords that spears don't have an equivalent is poison slash.
Here's the thing, spear users have inferior initiative than the majority of sword users.
Your lancer might be able to drain AP from an entire column, but the worse initiative means that you need to waste an accessory slot on a dove plume to prevent more annoying targets from acting. If you're worried so much about the backrow, then let Ochlys have the Crimson Epee. She converts all of her attacks into ranged so its easy for her to single out whatever you with with the right setup.
You also generally want your truestrike bot to act before the rest of your team, especially when it comes to scouts because you're just wasting damage opportunities. So, no they're not objectively better than the swords by virtue of what they're tied to.
Also, Swordfighters don't actually need Stingray for Truestrike. They have it baked into almost their entire kit.
Yes, the initiative discrepancy and advantage of going first for -PP skills is true, I'll give you that.
And yes, swordfighters have plenty of true strikes baked in their own kit that they don't need the true strike from Sting ray. The point is that's the only sword that gives True strike. It gives to a class that already has. Meanwhile, spears can give true strike to classes that lack it, better suplementing their weaknesses with itemization.
The opportunity cost of using the truestrike spear over other spears will become more apparent as the game goes along, as you will be sacrificing damage and/or utility options in exchange for performing slightly better against specific enemies. Its solid in the early game due to a lack of spears, but by the midgame, the only classes that can afford to use the spear are the ones whose combat don't really matter.
But you can swap the spear in and out just for the correct enemy type, using whatever is best otherwise. Sword has no such option.

After taking a glance at the divine crystal shop, are you ideally just spending on status boosters for the most part until you unlock the later stuff? There's a ton of stuff in there that looks like it'll only be useful early game but may fall off. Meanwhile stat boosts are permanent and always useful.
pretty much, only equipment I bought was the Cleric staff because it looked decently useful, I won't be autistic enough to swap out for the optimal staff every single battle if I have two squads with a cleric out on the field
the single stat dews are kinda meh. they don’t stack with the all stats dew. but yeah the dew early on are the best bet. the must get item is the angel plume. you negate so much dmg by just attacking first and wiping out the enemies. it gives 20 initiative to a row of fliers (or 10 to anything else)

I've stationed guards at every town I've rebuilt, but I dont seem to be getting the material rewards they promised me after each battle. I feel like I should have more than 3 Corsite Stones after clearing a large part of the map, are you supposed to claim the resources or something?
Also, is there any point in delivering goods to towns after you rebuild them outside of honor and gold?
the shines don't refill to 3 every time, they only have 1 if they are getting gathered when they are up like the guards do.
So you find 3 items the first time, and then 1 periodically respawns in that location afterward? Does it automatically get added to your inventory without mention? I've gone back and checked areas again and found an item or two, but most shines have stayed yellow - gonna take a lot of searching to find 30 stones to rebuild that bridge going east

thief dodges melee. knight does double dmg to infantry. 90% of enemy units are infantry.
So does feathersword with cavalry/warrior/spellsword. With the added option of shield smiting enemies to lower their def before having your attacker pick off debuffed units
Yeah, I'm just saying the level of input vs output in the early game when you don't have a lot of tools to work with is pretty great.

You can change any character's growths, even the uniques. Generics and uniques are completely equal in this game, save for any possible advantages uniques might get through story missions or rapports.

no aoe kinda blows and they don't hit that hard either. anyway there are a bunch of classes with unguardable moves too including every magic class
mages don't get ap on kill like warriors is the point, other ap on kill classes get blocked by guards
Flame Bow + Fireball with Fire Burst Staff is probably one of the most effective squad clearers in the demo because burn damage is insane once you understand how to manipulate AI priority. Its not about whether or not you have personal AoE. Its about how effective you are at synergizing with the rest of your team.
Icebolt + Ice convergence + any multi unit attack is effective too and freezes almost the entire enemy unit

it’s kinda shit. 2 pp to aoe freeze. using regular initiative. using 1 pp to give 10-20 initiative to a row and cleave kill rows? way better and you can give the 50 potency buff at the same time.
They have some of the highest strength in the game
doesn't really matter since they have only 100 potency attacks and no damage boosters, my knights and gryphons are hitting 90+ while my warriors are hitting like 30 - 40
The unguardable hammer to the face is effectively their potency boost. They're great armor killers on their own. I'm a gryphgay but I feel like people are getting a tiny bit carried away. They can struggle against anything that isn't mounted especially armors.
i just run 2 griffs with a witch and shaman, magick comferral helps them punch through armor with ease and the hoplites and fighters can't cover the backline because they get debuffed by the shaman

gladiator hits much much harder than warriors in general since they have 200 potency. warriors are specialized anti-ap, they don't hit especially hard against other types of units

still thinking whether i'm gonna replace druid with rogue in my gryphon/gryphon/sorceress/druid unit
rogue at least does some chip damage and it mostly fills druid's niche as initiative control and still has a singletarget cover/guard null so the gryphons can murder everything. it also is extremely useful as the unit leader if i don't need flight, having 170 base speed, 6 stamina and quick rest, giving the unit a lot of speed and stamina
on the other hand, druid has row guard seal + def down, which will probably end up contributing more damage than rogue's chip and extremely powerful all-enemy initiative debuff. but i'll be stuck with either 4 stamina or terrible speed and no quick rest either way
just replace shaman and thief for a witch equipped with the angel plume. it gives 20 initiative to griffins. it gives 50 potency buff too and she can freeze annoying units too thanks to the 20 initiative she gets. then you have a free slot to do whatever. you could do thief and have it steal pp and then use it to give attack buffs to the frontline. also the angel item for griffins is strong and lets it counter agility units.
still need guard seal either way to prevent gryphons from being cucked by cover
what level is guard seal?
lv25 for both rogue and druid. pp steal to deny cover will have to do for early stages

Hard to say. Do you have the ability to recruit Radiant Knights? If you have gone through the trouble to get Melisandre already, then you should be able to recruit every other unit in the demo. Having access to every class (at least as a generic) seems like the best thing to do.
Another thing I can think of is the treasure maps. There are 4 of them in the mine you unlock in the demo and the 4th one leads you to a unique bow, I believe it was.
Other than that, it's just the sword quest, recruiting everyone, liberating everything and farming divine shards that's left for you. You can probably leave a bunch of that stuff for the full game and just have fun and do the Scarlet quest with your remaining time.

Not just 200 a pop, but one of the most plentiful finds is iron ore, which sells for 250, so getting 5 iron ores in a single round supplies 6 more rounds of mining by itself.

God I hope there is a heel turn moment in the story where you can continue to be the good guy or take the Overlord ring and MC everyone. Game ends with Scarlett, Yahna, Selvie, Yunifi, the Elves, Ochlys, Sharon, Melisandre, Virginia blowing Alain while he sits on his throne.

in a lot of srpgs the beginning is the hardest part, although imo that's not the greatest sign, usually boils down to puzzle difficulty where you can only find a few right solutions
This game's beginning is definitely on the easy side though, so I hope the mid and late game on expert really force you to optimize and don't just fold in half if you do
Vanillaware usually doesn't disappoint with extra difficulties or postgame content though, so I'm sure there'll be some challenge to be found

you can replay it
it's pretty forgiving within one save, even if you feel like you wasted time you can just reload a save and the clock continues from when you saved. Also you can frick around in the pause menu for as long as you want.
i emu it and there are hacks for unlimited time
just a heads up but parting blow and other end of battle actions are once per battle only. even if you give the characters more PP they'll only perform the anility once.
beyond that, I'm curious about temp units and exp. do the units in their temporary squads maintain the exp they earn while in those squads? for example, if fran gains 2 levels on the map with the knights of the ashen blue, will she maintain those levels when you actually get her? if rolf gains a level om his join map will he maintain that bonus level when you get him at the end of the map?
Those are good questions but in the end don't matter at all since you can infinitely grind exp anyway

can you redeploy them elsewhere with no cooldown? do they get their hp restored and fallen units revived?
you can redeploy them elsewhere immediately, they do not get fully healed right away, I think dead units get revived though, although it might be necessary to deploy them and keep them on the outpost/garrison for a while to get the heal

this is a literal tutorial point in game. if you leave your home base u defended josef tells you to use the instant go home item to redeploy at base. redeploy doesn’t revive characters. and you do get back your valor point. sometimes deploying someone to pick up shinies and then retreating them is good to let your main unit focus on other stuff

They probably mistranslated 相手 as partner, while in this case, it can also mean the opponent.
This often happens in translation, but it's shouldn't be happening. It's a proof that they are lazy and didn't playproof it first.

Wasn't there another part to that last one? Was it that the buffs only applied if there was an enemy flying unit present or something? I didn't pick up the bow that has that skill in my playthrough.
i tested it on a 100% flyer-free (NO flyers on both sides) battle and it still proc'd upon someone on my side getting attacked
look at the image of the actual skill going off. it's not a self-punish, in fact it shaves off -1ap off the TARGET if the target is at 100% hp. the description is flat out wrong
the 3rd one must be only against fliers right? the default tactics makes it only work when enemy fliers are in battle
The default tactics for that one make no sense at all. You can use whenever any ally is attacked.
i think what it does is that it gives you a buff that makes you do more damage and have a higher crit chance against enemy flyers. but it works on any ally not just flying allies
Just checked, Rolf is critting flyers like crazy and he only has 13% crit. Has to be it.
i just tested it against an enemy with a gryphon
with the buff on i did the same damage to the enemy fighter as with the buff not used
with the buff on i did 6 more damage to the enemy gryphon than with the buff not used
so yeah it seems like the buffs only apply if you are actually hitting a flying enemy

Scarlett can equip acessories that are mostly Wiz/Witch. So she can be an Ice Conferral bot too, but one that can heal and remove debuffs using AP and not PP (which is for conferral), and remove enemy buffs with an attack.
I wonder how useful she will really be.
