Time Limit is lame, but I don't really recall many times that I came close to timing out. It's probably there just to stop you from leaving a strong unit on a garrison point and literally going AFK while you sleep and coming back to a max level team or something.
That is a factor but you could also do some weird cheesing where you could just use one team the whole event without ever needing to spend on resources. There are other things too such as just sending wave after wave of cheap hirelings out.

on topic the demo is amazing. all marketing of the game during directs and elsewhere did not do anything for me - thoughts of 'wait, the battles play themselves and i'm algorithmically setting each unit's choices in those automated battles? that sounds a little wonky compared to fire emblem... what, it's real time too? there's no permadeath? what the hell is this?'
my tiny monkey brain could not comprehend all of the major differences. putting the game in the customer's hands with a generous time limit is exactly the right move to convince people this kind of srpg has value. what really made it all click for me is unironically the ranking system after each battle. i was concerned there was no counter against turtling/inefficient play watching the marketing and once i saw that it all clicked into place. in addition i am stunned at how almost every non-consumable item is something i'm excited to see and start imagining the strategic possibilities of. there has never been a game where every element matters quite this much.

This game is getting people who dislike Strategy RPG's into buying it. Demo is working extremely well in Japan where it jumped in pre-orders to being behind only Final Fantasy. People are already saying this is a goty contender.

Don't worry about it, I've checked every town and it's on the one where you recruit the fat old man with the hammer. I was so focused on doing as many recruits and reading that I didn't bother to check half the stores of the towns I've liberated. Shit, even missed on the dinner stuff.
quick tip about shops AND forts. go to the map. hit left i think? and then go to shops or forts. then press the button for more info. it lists the items it sells for towns and the units you can recruit from forts.
I really need to start paying more attention to the little things with the maps and stuff. The timer has me fricked up and kicking my autism to frantically do things
i get it anon. i was playing it first on my switch but said frick it and ran it on yuzu just for the timer freeze. i have like 30 hours on a save file. also it had money and item hacks so I got to experiment with dews and stuff. quick tip dews do NOT stack. using 5 all stats and 5 attack wont boost you any higher than having just used 5 all stats to begin with. thats going to save me a ton of money and heartbreak in the game once my copy arrives.
Noted, was wondering about the dews. Haven't used mine since I'm saving them for the full release and experiment myself but I guess you saved me time. Pretty based
yep i mean im using the demo solely to experiment. right now im doing a legit run with no cheats and im shocked how much money you get naturally. i was thinking there is no way to keep up with all the good items in the shops.
That surprised me too, when i would think that I'll be broke after buying a few gears at one spot, by the next I'll be back to 30k or higher. Treasure hunts also helps on the money. Though we only have 5 maps with the demo. There's enough money to get the right amount of gear but sadly not everything. If you decide ro opt for the gold egg and the other for exp, it's gonna set you back for a hot minute. Although you can ignore buying a gold egg since you can get 1 for free.

Oh. I've already used the map and the list you mentioned quite a lot in order to fast travel to the correct facilities.
But somehow I missed that I could window shop straight from the map screen. That's useful.

Demo was fricking amazing. I played it twice, speed running through it with barely enough time to get to the final story based mission, and I still only completed like 2/3rds of the available stuff to do. There's so much content in this game it's unreal. The game is massive. I cannot fricking wait another week bros..
Also to echoe what others are saying, I've never been super into other strategy games ( played a couple fire emblems, never beat them ) but I find this game addicting.
I also don't love the timer, but it is what it is. I wish it were longer, so I had a chance to get my slower units further onto the field to get some XP. Otherwise Josef's unit and Alain's unit end up doing most of the fighting.

Has anyone tried hard mode? Curious if it's balanced well or if it just makes it easier for your units to get one shot
I started on Intense and it was fine. Felt like a normal mode. Not a massive TRPG guy outside of Xcom and didn't have much trouble once I figured things out.
Played most of the demo on Normal and it was way too easy. Definitely recommend Hard for the full game

Is it worth replaying the demo and skipping dialogue etc to get the most out of it. On my playthrough I used up the full 6-7 hour time. I think all my team were around average level of 12 and I explored what I thought was the most I could.
I also only did that repeatable ruins quest once for Selvie which I forgot you could do a few times. At the moment she's my favourite girl.

It's a double-edged sword, you can scratch the itch by seeing more missions and classes you missed the first time but it makes the wait all the longer. Smart thing to do is probably put the game entirely out of your mind until leak/release, but we're not very smart. Pick your poison.

Option 2, is create a save file with an hour or so left, having gotten as much as possible. Then use the last hour to try out different class and item combos for various unit setups

My preliminary plan as of right now is to just grab Selvie, save Yahna and grab the Kingsblade. Recruit Sharon & Ochlys. Then recruit Berenice and unlock mining.
And my current plan is that I'll probably go straight for Scarlett after that. I don't know what actually happens after the completion of the Main Quest that ends the demo. But Scarlett is pretty rad. Both as a character and a unit. So I kind of want her early if possible.
So I've just spent my time exploring the demo for alternative paths. If there is anything I wish to prioritize, add, or do instead before running towards Scarlett.
But I don't actually think I even want to deplete the full demo timer. Personally. Because if it wasn't a demo I know for certain that it isn't how I would have played the beginning chapter of the game.
Well I did a ton of stuff, and only when I realised the timer was on about 10 minutes I started the end mission. I noticed that I was in the battle for longer than 10 minutes so maybe the end mission doesn't count towards the timer. Either way I'm going to just keep the save I've got because I played it like I would normally.

His last words are :
"Alain..."
"This ring... was given to me by your mother. It is a symbol of love. Of trust."

My interest got piqued when I learned that it had thr gambit system in it. Ff12 was my favorite to just mess around with, loved pseudo programing fight rotations. I actually enjoyed revenant wings more but was disappointed with how gambit were handled there.

Ryujinx was always the better emulator if you had the hardware. Yuzu is the emulator you use if your hardware is weaker.

I imagine that you could probably do self imposed "nuzlocke" rules for Unicorn Overlord. For challenge runs if one really wants permadeath even though it isn't an official mechanic.
But one could do something like, only getting to recruit X number of named characters for each region. And then limit your choices of generics to hire. And then perma-bench or dismiss characters who die.
But yeah. In 6vs6 battles, characters are very likely to die without some serious minmaxxing.

I liked the triangle strategy demo a lot better, for example. I really lost interest when I saw the shield guy was exorcised or some shit with the ring and it turned out that he was a good boy all along. Is there a catch to this one storywise?

All that said. I really do think you're overstating how much text and conversations there are in the game.
I get that it might not be your cup of tea. And that's fair I suppose. But really. It's just like a 90~180~ second short prelude to every battle. With Side Quest battles strongly gravitating towards the shorter end of that spectrum. And that's like, not a lot.
Now. I like Triangle Strategy a lot too. And I can only assume that you like it more because you like its narrative more or something.
But in terms of text and conversations, Triangle Strategy has a lot more than Unicorn Overlord by several times over.
I think most people agree the story in the demo is sorely lacking, even people like me that liked it a lot.
It's not bad but very very generic.
That being said, we have only seen the first area so far. There ample opportunity for the story to become more interesting once it starts introducing dragons and furries and unicorns and shit.
I get the feeling that VW wanted to broaden their appeal with this title so they aimed for a more lukewarm story that is aimed at being as inoffensive as possible, so I doubt it's going to be compelling

Graphically it's the next step in GBA Emblem style. Some animations are even heavily inspired in GBA FE.
Provoke is a great valor skill and it's worth having a fighter shoved in a squad somewhere just to have access to it
