Yeah tanks are pretty important, but there are a lot of characters that can tank or cover. Dodge tanks are great too, like Theif or swordmaster
Make one team that has a healer as the leader, you'll be able to assist other teams with in-battle healing that way. Experiment using the conditions for attack skills and passive skills

I've been loving the game so far. I keep walking into new areas and realizing I probably should've explored more instead of gunning it for the mage and hammer guy areas. Trying to figure out good comps and ways to utilize the gambits without fricking myself with overly specific orders. Honestly I just throw some dudes together and see what sticks. Equipment fills in whatever weakness they might have. I have Horse dude that isn't Josef, soldier girl next to him, and Lex protecting her and they were pretty good except for Lex. I gave him a sanguine blade and he's been staying alive at least, and the other two just tear anyone apart in a row. I gave her an accessory that boosts physical attack for another unit too, so she mostly does that for the horse guy instead of healing now.
Outside of the bad translation that adds in tons of unnecessary prose to what characters say, it's solid Vanillaware. It's so incessant at times it can ruin a character.
Top coomerbait. The autobattling is boring, so don't play on hardest difficulty imo.

I'm a brainlet and I can't figure out how the haste Valor skill works, do I use it before commanding the unit to rest? It didn't appear to do anything to the unit that was already waiting.

Just to see if anon was bullshitting or not I fed Gilbert and Virginia 6 strawberry cakes to see what their convos were like and sure enough it's abundantly clear that Gilbert is in love with her (Although he doesn't confess, he just indicates that there are things he only thinks about when he's with Virginia) while Virginia only thinks of him as someone she's close to but doesn't display any signs of overt romantic attraction. Also Gilbert has a line about how he feels like he is better at giving orders to Virginia than Alain which she calls out as him being competitive for some reason over her.

Hodrick. He tanks excellently about 50% of encounters, but hoplites have too many counters and when one of them comes around he just folds too easily, and he does nothing but tank whereas other types of tanks can also hit back.
Lex I just don't fricking know what to with. He can't punch. He can't tank. He doesn't have any supportive skills except catching arrows, but arrows are nowhere near enough of a menace to justify his dead weight.
Rolf. I'm kind of confused because obviously archers should be useful and he can take out both fliers and enemy ranged, but for some reason he just never pulls his weight? The only way I can get him to perform is to put him on ranged support for other better units.
I see people shittalking Scarlett and Chloe and I just don't see it. Chloe is solid, she can pull her weight in fights she doesn't counter and do really well in fights she counters. And Scarlett is one of the best units I've got, good damage, good healing, and giving her the protection staff means she can also be proactive about her supporting.
My issue with Chloe is she feels like an option you add in when you're just filling out teams, rather than a unit you want to actually have. She's a general support so can contribute, but it'd have been better if I had an actual specialized unit instead.
Hodrick started performing really well for me the second I put him in a team with a Radiant Knight who could shield him from mages
He is just a stone wall who can throw buffs to my gryphon who uses their aoe 3 times in one fight thanks to Scarlett, and with all the passive heals going around the team manages to strike the perfect balance of killing everyone dangerous on time and being able to tank just about anything and come out with full health anyway.

Knights and Gryphons. I'm not saying they're terrible later, they just aren't half as dominant as they are at the start, so they fall from the greatest heights. Lex/Fighter on the other hand has nowhere to fall from. They start as the weakest unit and stay in that spot.

I've been trying to make her work and I want to use her more for a second playthrough but I'm not sure what teams to use her on. Her versatility should make her a decent slot for a variety of teams but it usually feels like I could just slot someone better suited than her in most comps.
That's Scarlett's problem. Auch is better for offense and Primm or Sharon are better for support. Scarlett is basically a bad middle ground.
I had the same experience as the other anon with Knights and Gryphoons falling off.

Not sure about assist damage but my 3 horses squad move like bullet train with gryphon buff compare to single horse squad that move slightly slower.
3 cavs + 1 gryphon + whatever is peak rape train and one of the most vanilla way to build possible

A cool thing from a role play perspective is that the more places you liberate the safer the lands become in terms the patrolling mobs disappearing. Which means you can run around and enjoy the map and also gather materials quicker. So you benefit from taking control of land with access to easier resources.

I actually did the math just now and I'm pretty sure it's just straight up weaker.
Powerful Call, as a "buff," is applied directly to attack before defense is subtracted. So you get more value out of it.
Crits are treated as one of several "adjustments" to damage after defense has been subtracted, along with class-trait effective damage, guards, potency, etc.

And since both skills are Limited, you have to choose which only one. Holy frick, Soldiers are garbage. Somehow worse than I even thought.

That coin thing you buy in the swamp adds 50% crit damage, assuming it isn't another item description frickup. But it also lowers your hit rate by that amount, so you'd probably have to pair it with a true hit, and at that point it's a lot of rigmarole for something you could probably have done more simply.
How do you get Rosalinde's Freezing Thrust to work? She never uses it even when she has a fairy from using Primus Edge
Set Primus Edge to be used at 100% HP with your max amount of AP so she generates one fairy, then every remaining action will be freezing thrust if it's below the conditional AP to use primus edge

It’s a boilerplate story about a prince reclaiming his country from an evil empire. The gameplay is Ogre Battle where units are composed of individual characters that either attack, refresh, or stack buffs and debuffs. You queue your units scripts to do certain actions during combat on turn but their is only an attack option, they do the rest without you. People mistakenly believe it’s an autobattler but what it really is is the attack option in FE but the unit is far more complex and customizable then a FE unit. It’s realtime with pause with an open world divided into 5 regions.
The gameplay is Ogre Battle. The fluff is Fire Emblem. It's on all consoles. No PC.
I wish fire emblem had this sort of unit system. It's so much better.

level wise you should do Drakenhold first, you can do the intro quest for the elves and get Rosalinde though before you start with Drakenhold

tried out the demo for a bit, reminded me of a bunch of games I like and I've been looking for something similar for a while but I can't find it, still ordered this one

What sort of support does a wyvern knight want? I already have a cleric in mind, what else?
something to eat arrows if enemies are allowed a turn? they have a way to get truestrike true items. a witch with high initiative can freeze the archers removing their turn and they can give you magic buff in case of armored units. my build for wyvern is kind of mid game but i combod her with a sorcerer to exploit burning +stun. a elf warrior to grant evade if we are fighting against archers/ to clear non stunned units and to kill armors. and i think finally a cleric with the overheal staff as extra defense
what are some underrated units you guys are using? i think housecarl and it’s upgrade are great generalists that weaken stuff for a cleanup cav or as a straight damage dealer when paired with ren. radiant knights are great to keep a cav team up and running and even if they are meant to be a support the cav status lets them 2x against infantry and they rape with a rune blade.
Dinah's class is pretty cool and will probably be underused
same with the angel classes, it's so late and your squads are likely already set by that point
I really hope mods will become a thing at some point so you could like put all classes as available in the first Cornia Garrison or something for a full custom playthrough

Housecarls are genuinely a good class in the demo at least. I think anons subconsciously associate them with shitty early axegays from games like FE, but they're actually speedsters with solid strength. The main thing they do is inflict Stun before opponents can move, but their lvl 10 move is kinda absurd too.
Interested in seeing how they hold up in the rest of the game.
Haven't seen many people mentioning it, but Rosalinde's class is great. Very easy to set up and does well against most comps thanks to the fact that Elemental Roar does mixed damage. Eltolinde isn't bad either, but I prefer the two unique skills Rosa has. Elven Archers and Shield Shooters are also two units I love using.
The only issue with Rosalinde and Eltolinde is that I feel like they really want to use their battle start skill but building around that can be annoying

I closed the game for tonight but the first convo is basically just Gilbert challenging her to spar with him and then some banter where Gilbert is like "I only behave this way when I'm with you" and Virginia is like "Hmm?" inquisitively but lets it pass
What I'd say is go through the region's side quests and story first and then clear out liberation shit on the way out as a way to catch up the other units you didn't use for the main parts. It's what I intend on doing on my next run

Most units have only 2 rapports, hell some even have 1.
Given that none of the rapports are voice acted, I'm wondering why they didn't include like 3x as many as they did, especially considering how little happens or is revealed in many of them.
They ran out of money after 3 iterations and 10 years making the game
1-2 most of the time. There are exceptions with obvious paired characters (ex. Travis and Bruno, Monica and Clive get 3) but even Sharon and Ochlys only gets 2 convos.

Where's the angel mission? The only side quests I've found were the archer and the sorcery homies.
forget the angel anon. go back and fix the harbor. you can take a boat back to starter island. there is a quest to save chickens and the reward is a golden egg that sells for 30k. sell it as it’s not a unique and the straight up 30k gold injection will carry you by allowing you to buy the rune blade early. the best user early on is alain and later on radiant knights.
South from the archer mission and then a right when you can. Should happen when you see a town. If you enter the swamp you went too far.
I guess I'll try the egg route.
make a squad with josef as leader. his leader effect neuters magic assists. give him a battlers shield and your highest attack sword that he can kill with his pursuits. this allows you to train to shitters early on like chloe and lex for later
are level up stat gains randomized? when alain hit level 2 he got a godly level up, increasing every stat except magic defence, but scarlett only got an increase to her accuracy...

Why don't you guys just cycle out teams if it bothers you this much? This game makes it so easy to raise a ton of units without any grinding, and you're already probably ignoring a lot of the game content by virtue of powerleveling two or three squads. Set yourself a challenge to try out different stuff.

I do it in like, most FE games because they incentivize it so hard. You fall behind badly in terms of stats a lot of the later games especially if you evenly level everyone. But in say, Thracia 776, it's whatever. Dagdar is practically endgame ready at Ch. 1.
And this game is like T776. It's giving you all this freedom to train up multiple squads with great catch-up systems and incentives, customizable generics, and lenient exp formulas (that punish overleveling). It's like it's screaming out you to experiment.

Yeah, a couple are not fully overleveled yet but I am not soloing maps with them or completely changing my fine-tuned setups just so I don't waste EXP
They should've done it SO3 postgame style where enemies get retuned depending on the order you take the continents. it's feels like kind of waste to go all the way to make it open world and not fine tune the experience
