Just checking this out for the first time, I'm very well versed in platformers, used to speedrun Megaman and Crash etc. - but what the FRICK is with the difficulty? The other Rayman games aren't like this, it's like Kaizo levels of autistic memorisation required.
Thats what early ps1 platformers were all like. Had to keep you entertained for a long time. The cause of several broken TVs and controllers as well. Had a lot of heart though.
>mfw the final section of Eat at Joe's
I was pretty used to this game's bullshit on my way to 100%ing it but just thinking about this one singular segment is enough to make me seethe. Actual pure fricking ASS.
Just beat that stage. Guarantee those sadistic French fricks were having a hearty HOHN HOHN HOHN at the thought of poor kids attempting it.
I beat it when I was 10
unironically get good
btw, make sure you get all the cages OP, you want to reach the final boss right?
Yes. welcome to the 00s
This game is sickhouse hard to finish. especially on psx where 1ups dont regenerate.
This is the hardest platformer ever though
https://kayin.itch.io/iwbtg
This game is from '95...
frick im old
>OG IWBTG
>hardest platformer ever
lol
lmao
game's easy by today's standards
I never got past the first 3 screens. stream me your playthrough then.
I still have the game from when I played it
impressive anon
it's a great fricking game. top tier animation, tight controls, hard but fair. ITS THE DARK SOULS OF PLATFORMING
or is dark souls the rayman of action rpgs.
>tfw the grapple swing doesn't work AGAIN
Game was simply never beta tested and filtered millions
I'm still surprised the game got popular after all that bullshit
But yeah just Play Rayman Redemption
https://gamejolt.com/games/raymanredemption/340532
>casualizes the game to shit (a gorillion hitpoints AND no knockback? fricking seriously?)
>removes entire sections of levels
Frick off my Rayman thread with this garbage for shitters.
Come on anon, Rayman 1's level design and difficulty is horse shit and you know it. Don't gatekeep fricking Rayman of all things.
No. Rayman Redemption is trash and you should feel ashamed for shilling it. I don't care if "uhhhh they didn't beta test it!" is your excuse to feel better about playing a watered down version of the game with cut content with built-in cheats.
They literally didn't test it though.
>The game is considered extremely difficult – much more so than the later installments in the series. Many players do not complete it. This is because the game was never thoroughly play-tested owing to looming deadlines, leaving the developers with no conception of how difficult it would be for a new player. It was only when reviews started coming in that they realized they had inadvertently created an incredibly challenging game.
Defend this.
playtesting never really happened a lot in those days. developers took players more seriously, like versions of themselves. which is why gaming was never attractive to low skill noobs.
It's only later with the invention of CoD mechanics (everyone can feel a winner!) and hiding ELO (anything post s1 in league) that casual gaming became big
>Defend this.
I don't feel the need to, just as I didn't feel the need to play your sissy fangame despite having a hard time with it as a kid because I actually got good at it.
>because I actually got good at it.
Do you want a pat on the back or something?
Nobody cares how good you're at Rayman, anon
that's impressive anon. it's a great game and finding all the cages is a hell of a job. especially pencil land is a true horrorshow.
I tried replaying it recently and got amazed at just how incredibly hard it is on psx. On jagaur it's easier because 1ups respawn but holy fricking shit how did I finish this within just 10 hours as a kid?
It gets a little better when you quit without saving after losing too many lives/continues in a short span. The game will absolutely make you die a frickton in a single level but they're all significantly easier after finishing them once.
>Don't gatekeep fricking Rayman of all things.
My Black person. There is nothing to gatekeep. Why would you want to gate keep ruins. Norimes haven't even got a chance to poison the well.
How many years has it been Murphy>
SEE YOU WHERE MURPHY?
ANSWER ME YOU FLYING FROG FRICK
The Murfy levels in Legends were kino with the Wii U gamepad. Only true way to experience them.
The knockback is utter bullshit, so many deaths caused by Rayman leaping like a moron off a ledge because a poorly coded spike hitbox brushes against his toe.
>just Play Rayman Redemption
True.
The only people that think Redemption isn't a better playing experience have got some serious nostalgia goggles on.
>never beta tested
I know. it was the good times where gaming attracted only high IQ people.
try teplaying tomb raider 1 and try to get all the secrets. just *TRY*
Does it let me turn off the
>All powers from the start
>Player buffs
>Cut sections so the full game is intact
>And every other moronic idea thats somehow seen as """Quality of Life"""
Can I play the og rayman but without emulating dos basically?
Just get the GOG version + the soundtrack fix which you can easily find online. Don't bother with that shit.
frick bandland, could never get passed part 2, even afer owning this as a kid I still cant get past the same stage.
I never completed it. Shit was difficult. Looking back I'd rather it was just challenging than plain impossible. My childhood basically consisted of doing the first 30% of games over and over
>getting all the cages on the pc version is much harder than on ps1
I thought I was tripping when I replayed it on pc, some cages had bullshit activation triggers you can never guess how to get, on ps1 it was much easier to 100% the game.
There's one cage in Eat at Joe's which requires you to swing and glide to a ring far offscreen. In the PC version an extra ring triggers to help you get across, but on the PS1 it never appears, turning it into the hardest cage in the game as the jumping momentum is broken as frick.
I can't remember that, it's been over 25 years since I played the psx version, it's also pal version, maybe that one fixed it unless there was no difference in ntsc/pal version.
Nah, PAL version is the same. Another casualty of the lack of testing.
the leap of faith. I remember that one holy fricking shit. and killing myself so many times searching for others.
I only played the gba port, the game was cool but I was sad to find out that to actually finish the game I needed to get all the cages because I didn't even know where to look for the ones I missed.
>go check to see my %
>apparently I used the cheat for all cages so it is at 105
well shit
brb I'm making a Rayman 3 thread so we can stone this one to death.
