The more I think about it, the more I realize Pokémon peaked in 2010-2012.
BW3 is the only thing that can salvage Pokémon's dwindling reputation but, knowing the staff that made BW/2 so good are gone, it's not something I want.

That's why it's shit, Unova started the theme park trend. Every other region prior was based on a specific part of a nation, Unova started off based on israelite York and then turned into a general USA-themed amusement park
No? The previous regions also have biomes that aren’t in their inspirations. No one criticizes Hoenn for having a Greek city.
The actual theme-park-ness started with Kalos, where it’s LITERALLY just France but simplified and Pokemon slapped on. This made all regions feel small ever since.

Not only can it be argued that Pokepark 2 is better than 1, and Rumble Blast being the best Rumble game by far, but the other are definitely good. Conquest alone is the gold standard the was never replicated, and Gates to Infinity was pretty great too. All I’m trying to show is that good spinoffs died after.

Gen 5 feel like a downturn for the series in more ways than one, I will admit gen 5 has some charm and some nice things going for it, but I am not going to pretend it's anywhere near being a good generation, the Pokemon designs have been beaten like a dead horse by this point but for very good reasons, the majority of the dex looks like shit and it salts the wound further that many feel like rehashes of gen 1 Pokemon, you can only use gen 5 Pokemon in BW 1 and the few that actually look cool and interesting are obtainable far too late into the game or evolve so late that it's pretty much pointless using them in your team throughout the entirety of the game. The story is vaguely interesting but it's very pretentious, it tries to "tackle more adult topics" but it fumbles pretty badly at it, N exists and he's just annoying, the game was horribly linear with very little to explore. The region is based on israelite York, which is one of the shittiest places a region could have ever been based off of but I guess Gamefreak reeeeeally wanted to appease their israelite shareholders. The few credits I can give gen 5 as a whole is the music, which is pretty memorable, the seasons which give the game a lot of charm and the side content, gen 5 had some fun side stuff, the battle subway was pretty fun, the movie stuff from BW 2 is mostly meh but it can be kinda fun and it does reward you with an unique visual effect, ETC, the only reason people would shill gen 5 is because they're either zoomers who grew up with it and haven't developed the ability to think critically or morons who think it's good because it isn't as dogshit as SWSH. Compared gen 5 to previous generations and it falls flat on it's face embarrassingly.

I got through the game just fine but I'm not going to pretend I liked most of the Pokemon, say what you will about gen 2 and 4 having limited dexes, at least the Pokemon available in those games are appealing and can be made viable with the right sets, BW 1 don't even give you access to the fricking fishing rod until post game, the game desperately wants you to use the elemental monkeys and gives one of them to you, in previous gens you had to sort yourself out, not be given a gift Pokemon meant to help you a gym exclusively.
I'm nearly 30 by now and I pretty much grew with the series since I was kid, I don't get what the frick that has to deal with this, when I first saw the gen 5 starters off of a magazine going over the details for gen 5 I thought they were fake because they looked so bland and shitty compared to the starters of previous generations, I didn't follow any fricking narrative, I wasn't even active on /vp/ back when BW came out and I didn't even have much access to the internet due to living in a rural area, I didn't like the designs from the majority of gen 5 Pokemon and I still don't, there's no "narrative" involved, just a guy's honest thoughts on the matter.
