Going to a region and having it namedropped as well as returning characters and their families with Unova music remixes is an explicit and intentional reference. Wormholes existing in a new way isn't exactly the devs wanting you to think about Sinnoh in preparation of something. Here's another one: Show me where in Alola a major character ever mentioned wanting to bring Z-moves to Sinnoh.

ORAS at least innovated, even though it's pretty shitty.
We had a good thing, and it was called HGSS. It cut zero corners. Full NatDex UP TO THAT POINT. Latest Engine. Combined every feature from the originals and third version. Sprinkled EVEN more from latest Gen and its own. Didn't remove anything from Gen 2.

Ruby and Sapphire having a post game beyond the Battle Tower, finding the bugged Lati, and locating Rayquaza like MEWTWOOOOO is a downgrade from the massive QoL from the three generation shift, a real post game, nearly twice as many Pokemon both overall & native to the game, far more available battles, not even including the Maison; and convenient shit like having access to both bikes?

The fun thing is that by the time they get to SM/SWSH remakes, they won't have any choice but to be objectively better since that was the point that brought us to modern standards anyway. >National Dex already gone >Little to no content of substance. Even the extraneous shit from USUM in SM's case wouldn't be anything anyone'd miss >DLC areas in SWSH remake's case would either have to be baked in (unlikely), sold again as an expansion pass (worst case but would still make it a better product than original SWSH+DLC), or better yet sidestepped as a Legends-style game to allow people to get Kubfu and Calyrex.
We just need to see them butcher Johto, Unova, Kalos, and Hoenn again. Then remakes will finally come full circle to being good again.
