>Can't nickle and dime devs that don't sell their games
I don't understand what this means
Epic gets a cut after a game reaches a certain amount of sales, until that amount of reached devs don't have to pay royalties to Epic for using the game engine, obviously using Unreal to make a game and then giving it away for free instead of selling it means Epic doesn't get to see a dime from it
It's not like making games with the engine costs them money either. The engine already exists
they have to pay to make said engine. then keep paying to update and innovate on top of it. not like the engine just magically poofed into their lap
How much are they losing from indie devs vs big time companies making them $$$?
Unreal Engine gets a cut of game sales
You can't get a cut of f2p games
"Nickle and dime" is a common English saying meaning to israelite/israelite someone out of money
Learn English before posting here please, I have to refrain from using big words or complex speech because all you ESL morons wouldn't understand
90% of mutts and bongs wouldn't understand your proverb without googling either so stop pretending to be capable of big word you monolingual Black person I bet you can't even spell 'eyjafjallajökull'
nickel and dime is an american proverb you esl homosexual
100% of Americans would understand that phrase. You literally don't know what a nickel or a dime is, why are you even commenting? I swear to God anti-American foreigners are the dumbest people on earth
Is this a "glass him" situation for ESLs?
The "glass him" incident wasn't a linguistics one but a good vs bad person one.
A good person assumed glassing someone to be serving him a drink, a bad person immediately associated it to violence.
Simple as.
homie nickels and dimes are literally American currency.
honestly i was more confused by what OP meant by "devs that don't sell their games" since that makes it sound more like the devs aren't releasing their games as opposed to the games just being f2p
I live in the country that invented English and I never heard anyone saying nickle and dime. BTW you meant NICKEL, not nickle, you moronic pavement ape.
ok Muhammed
Thank you for your input Nigel.
only ESLs complain about spelling. a real anglo would just understand what he's trying to say and move on, Poorna.
>only ESLs complain about spelling
kek, the low IQ cope.
If you cannot spell properly in your first language, you are moronic.
you're brown
moron in the wild.
If you learn English you still remain an ESL, which is frankly a completely arbitrary and moronic attempt at an insult. You will always be an ESL, regardless of your level of literacy regarding English if you didnt RNG into being born in an English speaking nation. And let's face it, given the state of most english speaking countries you rolled lucky not being born there.
People use ESL so that you can't report them for 'racism outside of /b/' when you get called out for being a turd worlder moron.
>turd worlder moron.
But that describes Americans.
I have English friends that tell me people who are "ESL" often have a better understanding of the language and bigger vocabulary. This stems from "ESLs" having to actually learn and study it. If anything the true morons are Americans who are monolingual.
They're not the centre of the world as they claim, we're not "forced" to speak English. We're doing it because if we don't you won't bother/can't learn other languages you wouldn't be able to communicate with everyone else.
You're the deaf friend we all learned sign language for, not the other way around.
>esl
>non sequitur rambling paragraph
pottery
I was malding, would've happened in my mother tongue also. But go ahead, disprove my reasoning instead of engaging in ad hominem.
calling out esls is ableism
It’s an insult only North Americans throw at you, because they project their insecurity of being about the only people in the world who don’t know a second language at all at you. It’s honestly pure cope. Every thinking person would commend someone else for speaking a second, third, etc. language. But the NA tards fear this concept, because they realise that learning another language is difficult, and they can’t do it.
>You can't get a cut of f2p games
you are a dumb motherfricker
It's nickel, as in the coin. As in you're fleecing someone of their money right down to their nickels and dimes, leaving them with only pennies.
>godot is going to go into subscribtions
>unreal is going to go into subscribtions
>any second now!
>please come back to unity guys
>come back to unity
I never left
I know paid shill-sama
>install
>uninstall
you can't stop me
is going to go into subscribtions
Nah cuz it is open source.
it already requires subscription to develop for consoles
and they're gonna keep locking features behind the paywall, call them "experimental and not ready for public release"
Godot doesn't officially support consoles. And that's because SONY/MSFT/NTDOY think their SDKs are some fricking NASA tech that can't be seen by the public's eye.
So Godot can't have support, because it's open-source. Instead, you have to pay a 3rd party company that has made israelite sanctioned tools to port it over.
Call them "shit we have to pay to a 3rd party for". Like console devkits
That's a separate company made by some godot devs that exists because you can't develop for console with an entirely open source engine, since console SDKs are proprietary, and you have to pay for them. Locking features of an open source project behind paywalls is pointless because people will just copy your source code and make a free version. The music player I use on my phone, metro, is literally that.
You need to sign an NDA to get access to the SDKs needed to develop for those consoles, so that's hardly on Godot.
They are going subscription based for non-game projects like movies and architectural visualization and shit. Nothingburger.
So they're just monetizing the space they were making huge strides in but also making extremely low money in by comparison? This has nothing to do with games
This is stated nowhere in the video. Frick you for wasting 10 minutes of my life
Why don't they just stop flushing all their money away with those stupid fricking Epic store exclusivity deals?
Unreal already moved away from a subscription system.
Then they relaxed their royalty framework because it wasn't worth chasing dimes.
They make money from the As, the AAs and the AAAs. They aren't going to cut freebies because they don't want to miss out on the next SmallGameTurnsOutToBeBig.
OP is a misleading homosexual. The change Tim talks about is for non-gaming application, specifically ArchViz and Film (Primarily film). They gained a lot of ground in the VFX industry in the past 5 years but made extremely little gains on the profits therein, the license model used for games didn't work for VFX (Also, until 2020, non-gaming use of UE was entirely royalty free, so they made literally $0 even as it was used on show like The Mandalorian).
The change is to have non-gaming uses of Unreal change to a per-seat license model. Hoping to cash in on high seat count VFX houses
steamies have to lie as usual
>They gained a lot of ground in the VFX industry in the past 5 years but made extremely little gains on the profits therein, the license model used for games didn't work for VFX (Also, until 2020, non-gaming use of UE was entirely royalty free, so they made literally $0 even as it was used on show like The Mandalorian).
Thats exactly the reason why UE VFX got popular in first place
As always, first offer free service to get clientbase, then start milking them off as long as it's more profitable to them to keep using current tech and not switch it off
The funny thing is that UE for virtual production is actual shit, crashes all the time for LED work, and needs a lot of add-ons built in-house by VFX houses like ILM to work for production, that's what filming for Mando S1 was truly like
>Unreal to go with a subscription system
"This is not going to affect game developers."
thanks for wasting 6 minutes 30 seconds of my life homosexual
is fortnite really doing bad or is epic just trying to make it a scapegoat for all of the other moronic shit they've been doing for years
the apple thing was a big mistake. they cut a big source of revenue and wasted millions on legal fees, instead of just giving apple their cut and making billions.
In hindsight yes but I think it was admirable. Epic actually walks what they talk with how much digital storefronts should be taking.
>Epic actually walks what they talk with how much digital storefronts should be taking.
Only because they have fortnite. Without it they would have gone bankrupt, I think they said so themselves in the leaked apple papers. The 12% cut is not sustainable, and they know it, and thats why they push it.
>Epic actually walks what they talk with how much digital storefronts should be taking.
If they actually did, then they would have brought Sony and Microsoft to task as well. They only went after Apple and Google because mobile was by far the smallest market for them.
>but I think it was admirable
making propaganda aimed at children is admirable?
Might be planning on selling or floating or it's because they got too complacent having Fortnite money and fricked things up by going after Apple + FTC.
My headcanon is that they are planning on selling to Sony. Sony wants more TV/Film, mobile games and have also failed to create more GaaS shit. Epic have all of that in one easy package and MS have put the pressure on hard with ActiBlizz. It's Tim Sweeney though so it's impossible to predict.
What does that mean? The engine itself?
I hope every dev software requires a monthly membership so it can kill gaming.
so epic store was a massive failure?
are the free games going to stop soon?
>only applies to non-gaming uses
nice try steamie
brrptthhhhhh
>diarrhea spilling from mouth
ppffftthhhbrrrpff
>so epic store was a massive failure?
The guy who started the whole thing got fired.
>so epic store was a massive failure?
Yes cuz no improvement or update coming up.
>are the free games going to stop soon?
Maybe, but more likely yeah. EGS is hemorrhaging money.
is it me or he can't even speak?
"Unity is going to frick my studio with bullshit price hikes and charges? I'll just make games in Unreal!"
>tim sweeny: "nyeeeees, about that..."
you are actually the most mindbroken Black person ive seen on this website, and that is really saying something
guess it's time to play fortnite, love watching a dying game undo itself
man, Uncle Timmy has zero charisma compared to John Carmack.
or even Gaben.
Timmy can't even talk, looks like a high school presentation
>Unreal to go subscription based
Why are you lying?
Oh boy! Time to go into Godot/GameMaker/GZDoom/RPGMaker for my foray into game design!
I think it's fair.
Unless they ask for some moronic pricing that locks small devs out.
>Unreal to go with a subscription system for industries outside of Game Development**
Why don't Gankertards listen?
>Man, unity sure just lost any and all goodwill
>I could sit here, do nothing, and get a ton of potential devs using my engine
>OR
>I could piss everyone off by laying off a bunch of people from companies I bought for no reason to try and fuel the fortnite machine
He really cannot stop himself from acting like a rat. Pretty sure he talked down on a bunch of tech companies for laying a frickload of people off a few years ago, too.
unity only lost goodwill from a bunch of angry idiots on the internet who would never earn money for unity anyway
Do we live in the same universe? Because I find it difficult to believe you missed nearly every single "big" indie dev making giant posts about how moronic unity was acting, some guy on the Among Us team ran numbers and said it would actively cost them less to hire two different people to just port the game over to a new engine.
Lol unity is dead unless they backpeddle even further.
Most indie devs went back because sunken cost fallacy, and the big devs never even budged.
No one "went back". They kept working on their existing projects because unity backpeddled and said they weren't going to apply their moronic install fee on games made with older version of unity, so existing games and ones currently already in development are unaffected. It's the ideal scenario really, no games get cancelled because of it but unity still kills itself because no one is going to want to use it for new projects afterwards.
Won't happen, sorry hater but Unity won.
Unreal is a piece of shit engine
Why do people Keep using it? It make the characthers movement so floaty and cause so much bugs specially when they also apply Denuvo on top of it
At this point i rather want to learn how to use the source engine/Source 2 and cry in my room for compilation errors and hammer crashes
What does Tyler in picrel have to do with your statement anon
Nothing much
I just don't want to sound like a valve fanboy because as much as there positive with it, Valve makes shit moves too
And also it's Always fun to lock Tyler McBlack person
The best you will get is some undocumented piece of shit modding tools that Valve will abandon half a year after the release (like with Source) or Garry’s implementation that will have half of the Source 2 shit removed if not more.
champion of the 12% cut
I have a massive library on Epic because of the weekly free games but haven't played a single one.
Pretty much this. I never even installed the store. lol
Tim’s autism became his worst enemy. He failed to realise that 90% of his income was from low iq Black folk playing Fortnite for ifone
Does anyone else remember when people were getting mad at Steam/Gabe for not trying to "one up" Epic, or punish companies for releasing their game on Epic first?
No.
in the timeframe of the Epic store launching till today
the following happened to Steam
>Microsoft started releasing all Xbox games on Steam
>EA came crawling back
>Activision came crawling back
>Ubisoft came crawling back
>Active users kept growing every month
>new features kept getting added
>big indie releases kept happening on Steam while the Epic explusive indies kept fizzeling out
>Blizzard is now even releasing games on Steam
>Steamspy homosexual got kicked off the platform after his employment for Epic came to light and he never stopped seething
>told NFT homosexual to git
>told AI games homosexuals to git
>Biggest online market on PC still
>nobody is opting for Epic exclusives anymore now all games are cross releases
>Steamdeck release bringing Steam to a even bigger audience
>all of this happened because Steam didnt even entertain the idea of a ''store war''
unbelievable how the exact opposite of what Tim wants just keeps happening
Also Valve released TWO games. Epic hasn't released a new game in 7 years.
>all of this happened because Steam didnt even entertain the idea of a ''store war''
I wonder if anyone left Valve for Epic during this.
>>all of this happened because Steam didnt even entertain the idea of a ''store war''
This is the funniest bit. Sweeney so desperately wanted to de-throne Steam and tried everything in his power, and lost to a guy who never moved a muscle.
>ignore the competition
>win
How does Valve do it?
they have good product, big user base, and vendor lock-in.
If you have 2k+ games on your steam account, why would you want to switch into other ecosystem?
>told AI games homosexuals to git
That's not true, but I wish it was.
Because even Gabe knows that talking shit about your competition is actually bad for business
It's funny how many things can't get fricked if there are no shareholders on company.
>shuffles up and down the stage staring at the ground like a geriatric
>um
>...um
>um...
Jesus timmy you're a billionaire show a shred of confidence
It would probably help if they put any sort of effort at all into their overlay or profile/community features
Holy mumbling batman I can't tell what this guy's saying a lot of the time
Tim Swiney
