My actual Baby Boomer father did in fact play FF7, he played the whole FF series up until 10, which was too stylistically different for him to get into.
Japanese already learn the bare basics of English out of necessity in school and moreso through everything having English in it, more and more with each passing year.
This is not the same thing as making all of the menus Japanese in an English-language western release of a game.
Speaking and reading are two different things. I know JETs who can understand spoken Japanese and speak it, but can't write or read past a basic level
They can't read or write either, it's just always translator. Some can say few words. It's always like encountering rare pokemon if local can speak / understand english, and it's usually because they were exchange student in murica or something.
Anon, this has nothing to do with speaking English.
I regularly play with Japanese players in an online game where there is zero IME support, zero Japanese language support for the game text, and yet everyone still manages to play with minimal issue, unhindered by the UI or the language "barrier."
right is better
why are millennials manchildren so soulless?
why are boomers so nostalgic for everything?
why dont we make submarines out of bread, those stupid boomers and their nostalgia for metal is ridiculous
I laughed harder than I should have.
You can make soup bowls out of bread. It is delicious but also treacherous.
Don't you mean Gen Xers? Boomers are in their 70s, they didn't play FF7.

He meant that 10 was too anime.
He was a giganerd gigachad though. Far outside all norms.
FFVII is a millennial game, moron.
Tifa's A-pose is objectively worse than her portrait art.

yet I rarely come across to any local who can speak english in tokyo
Have you tried writing it down?

Uuuuhhh...Frick Japanese players? This is the USA motherfricker, it's been 78 years. We won
Why does every game have crafting?
Spyro the Dragon 2 does not have crafting it in.
But can you pet the dog in it (the answer is no, there is no dog in spyro the dragon 2:ripto's rage/gateway to glimmer)
Bullshit, you can craft an egg into a pencil on the Mystic Marsh level.
Japanese don't even play games on console or PC, if it's not on mobile, they won't play it.
wait
that's the main menu?
it's so soulless compared to the original.
jesus christ Aeris is a skeleton
> dress no longer hugs her hips and she looks like she's dressed like a 10 year old
Aeris' design bothers me almost as much as Tifa's
Why remake project devs hate katakana alphabet?
Why are Tifa and Aerith so extremely thin?
I want to murder Todd Howard. Skyrim has permanently ruined UI design in videogames despite having one of the absolute worst UIs in the medium.
