It's alright, but it's based on the JP PS1 version, which has some disadvantages to the NA version. Mainly the UI is much better so there's less swapping between menus all the time. It's possible this new port will be based on the mobile version though, which has a better menu.
Either way, there's no outright terrible version.
Ps1 has soul anime cutscenes.
Psp has soulless 3D ones.
i miss games having more anime cutscenees, 3D are just souless that give no impact 98% of times
Its a consequence of in-game CGs generally improving over time making less of an incentive to include anime cutscenes

13 sucessor (7R and SoP) are more about staggering
KH3 ,Dissidia(NT is not a rpg yeah) and TWEWY is more fast hack n slashy , KH3 and dissidia is more about magic and being in the air while neotwewy is about attacks synergy.Crisis Core remake seems to be like Dissidia/KH
Trials of Mana is more like a classic snes arpg but with current gen camera.
Nier and automata were hack n slash with rpg mechanics(automata is more arpg because builds and 2 souls mechanics they bring).
We don't know FF16, Forspoken , this one and SO6 but none of them looks like 7R combat wise

Seems like it'll be fun to play and an interesting way to convert the Einherjar system to action gameplay but why does it have worse animation than Valkyrie Profile 2 on the PS2

"accurate" mythology does not exist. Gods and myths are symbological constructs meant to represent the idea of a character within a narrative, and that idea changes from legend to legend while keeping the same name for familiarity purposes.
complaining about some hypothetical canon not being respected or about elements of different mythologies being mixed together is missing the entire point of what a myth is.
It is a problem here, simply because the previous entries of this game didn't give a shit about Greek mythology. It being called Elysium is peak soullessness, VP games existed in a world based on Norse but they didn't have any sort of Viking Aesthetic or anything, it was like Lord of the Rings, that's what made it cool. Of course those games were made by old school Tri-Ace and this one seems like soulless fricking nu-square so that explains it.
VP1 had an entire dungeon dedicated to Egyptian myth and an in-game analog for Japan. It was always a fusion of different ideas. Elysium looks like shit, but not for this reason.

Those were always secondary and separate to the game's main story, the coming of Ragnarök. Suddenly calling the game Elysium as if they're trying to link that to Valhalla or something is dumb as shit

Haven't played VP, although I've tried some modern clones such as Indivisible and Super Neptunia RPG. Didn't like them at all. It's like the worst parts of classic TB (no movement) and RT (no time to strategize). Don't really see the appeal.
But this new game looks like a faster and more casual souls-like, so basically Code Vein with a Square Enix skin, which is fine by me.
Is the story important? Should I play Lenneth in advance? The PSP version should be easy to emulate.
Both of those games you mentioned are garbage, just actually play Valkyrie Profile, anyway if you think looking like Code Vein, a supremely shitty soulsclone bargain bin trash is good then maybe you just have abysmal tastes.
