it's going to still have a high skill ceiling, just like league and valorant. Yes, they require skill. Riot is great at making difficult genres more accessible by reducing tedium and bloat.

      Anonymous

THIS. All I care about is that there's a high enough skill ceiling that there's no Garen, or Malphite, or Ekko, or Ashe, or Lux, or Wukong, or Kaisa, or Neeko tier characters where they literally just press all their buttons and get free shit.

A low skill floor is fine as long as it's high enough to enable a high skill ceiling. I'm still personally iffy about motion controls and that comment in picrel is genuinely cringe and moronic. Makes no argument about why motion controls shouldn't exist, just whines that "waaaahhhhh I can't do it and disabled people can't, so it shouldn't exist wahhhh even though this argument could be used against virtually anything anyone has trouble with and only homogenizes the industry and stifles creativity wahhhh!!"

I have a bad feeling about Project L, but I wanna believe that if Riot truly makes a solo based, player focused game where your teammates can't troll you...then they might be able to make a good game...

It being a team fighter alone will stop it from making every other fighter "obsolete" because not everyone wants to play tag fighter garbage. Fighting games also put too much responsibility on the player compared to League and Valorant where they can just blame their losses on teammates, this alone will filter the majority of the League playerbase.

doesn't it have a 1v1 mode that everyone will default to anyway? No because Project L looks like shit. You gotta realize that one of the most important parts of what makes a fighting game sells is the graphics. Slap City is considered to be one of the greatest platform fighters but it looks like it was drawn by literal children so most people didn't play it.

      Anonymous

I don't think it's that it looks like shit necessarily. It's that it's competing with Guilty Gear Strive in the graphics and art style department, and strive mogs it so fricking hard. But honestly, I don't even like strive's art either. Fighting game graphics peaked with 3rd Strike's sprite work. I wish it was possible for games to be made like that, but somehow higher quality and even more animated.

This anime style trend that has been taking over just feels LITERALLY too...fake to take seriously, like the way it moves and everything makes it look like I'm watching literally drawings clash against eachother than actual fighters. No it's not like anime. Anime's like AOT, Demon Slayer, One Piece, and Jujitsu Kaisen have a very good flow to their fight scenes. It just feels stilted in Fighting games.

        Anonymous

        >It just feels stilted in Fighting games
fighting games have to be quick where moves come out in as little of 1/12th of a second. it's hard to get a lot of good animation in that time, and because your fighting game will usually have your moves cancel into others, you won't even get to complete the move as you immediately move into the next one, ending with something that can look more flashy and intense.
your animations also have to be general so unfortunately you can't be detailed with how someone is getting hit by someone else directly in their face compared to their stomach. and the reason for that generalness is for gameplay consistency in those animations.
maybe you can get it to work if you decided to let the animators work way longer on more detailed looking interactions with the attacks (leaning over to hit a short character, aiming for a better weak spot based on the character's weapons) but it wouldn't be considered competitive probably to have animations be different in every single match up

Fighting games died when the tourneygays took over the genre and wienerblocked the possibility of having actual 3D or any meaningful new mechanics. I would rather get infected by Chinese spyware to play Naraka than pay to play a new game with the same generic 2D formula.

      Anonymous

I unironically agree with some of this. I feel like even though fighting games are better than ever (especially SF6, game is fantastic despite some questionable decisons) I feel like they're all just playing it too safe and only reinventing in the safest possible way to appeal the hardcore tourney tryhards.

We will NEVER get another big budget new IP that's a 3D fighting game or a fighter with ballsy new fun mechanics. It will only an indie game that dies with a lower playercount. We will NEVER get something like Urban Reign even if it could mass market appeal to casuals.

Tekken will be the only 3D fighter and we will have to like. Maybe the small possiblity of a new Soul Calibur or DOA if Tekken does super well and we get super super lucky.

They make "new" ones all the fricking time with different mechanics and and gimmicks. They never catch on though. Why? Because they're fricking shit.

There are Gundams, Jojos, Dragonballs, Narutos, One Pieces, Pokemon, etc. All of them are wildly different unbalanced shitfests with all the 3D fighting you want. But they never really take off. Why? They're all fricking shit and the casual fanbase that eats them up puts them down after realizing it's unbalanced shitfest with all the "new" mechanics they try shoving in your face. Only the Pokemon one is respectable because it came from Tekken devs but they ruined the roster for that one and screwed up by relying on Nintendo's shit netcode making it dead on arrival because online was unplayable.

most casuals dont even care if a game is tag or not, they just play and once a character dies they just pick it up with the next one, KoF style
from what ive observed most of the people turned off by tag mechanics are tourneygays who couldnt hang in competitive settings and switched back to non tag games
sure tag games are generally more offensively slanted but so are the majority of 1v1 fighters these days

Project L will make a lot of playerbase since it's free and its from Riot.
What I don't get it is why a lot of FGs still charge 60$+ for their base game. The skill ceiling is already so high, if you want people to come into your game you gotta lure them in with a cheaper price point.

Project L will probably have Camille since the fighting community has tons of disgusting hag gays for whatever reason. Same reason why Capcom and netherealm keep bringing back Sindel and Chun Li
