No one is forcing you to do anything, but thank you for increasing the visibility of Linux as a viable gaming platform. Your opinion is worthless and zero people will stop using Linux because of it, but the more Linux gaming is discussed, the more people will be curious about it and eventually switch to Linux.

Pretty sute VKD3D which implements DX12 is Wine project
Valve does do stuff but Proton is just Valve utilizing these tools and integrating them to Steam and automatic game patches so games would work out of the box without messing with wine yourself
Which is a good thing and probably one of the best uses of open source software.
I'm pretty sure Valve helps with Proton codevelopment with Codeweavers
of course they are involved party. Linux development itself gets really going when companies get involved, but some people think Proton is somehow Valves own stuff. They are just the only major corporation who funds and helps with that and integrates it to Steam nicely

your choice is to either hope some company with propietary software finds a niche audience in Linux so that its reasonable for them to support Linux distribution, or just use FLOSS alternatives and contribute by usingg it and complainig when it doesnt work
Really the only big company that is big into Linux is SideFX because Houdini is the best vfx tool and they heavily use linux, it even runs faster compared to the windows version.
I guess The Foundry is more pro Linux as well since they still support it.
