Here are some pros and cons of playing Classic version of vanilla:
Pros:
>The quality of vanilla private servers tends to be pretty low (open source emulation for Wrath actually has higher standards for vanilla content than any vanilla private server), so if you unironically care about Bartolo Ginsetti /dancing if you talk to him, Thunder Lizards having the correct (pathetic) drop rate for their blood, Silithid Invaders and Hive Drones sharing a spawn, or Geopriest Gukk'rok meleeing for 26-34, you have to play Classic (or some of the higher quality TBC/Wrath servers)
>Classic has neo-WoW macro and addon API, ultrawide resolution support, and such (With TBC/Wrath client there's no real difference, I would like to point out that pre-Cata content is still there, and in TBC with broadly the same power levels at that)
>NA players have servers with lower latency as most pservers are hosted in Europe
Cons:
>Absence of most or all of the beneficial #changes servers private servers might have (the extent of this drawback depends on the server)
>The servers are in general disastrously managed, ranging from poorly implemented artificial patch progression to faction balance issues
>Actually tends to be worse when it comes to server-side latency, view distances, etc
>By using BFA/Shadowlands client and server, it's necessarily inauthentic
>The worst community known to man
>You have to pay neo-Blizzard

Serious answer: Don't bother with official servers from Blizzard, they are nothing like what the game used to be back in the day
There's a new TBC Fresh coming out in a few weeks which will be really good, Felmyst 3 and if you want to play Vanilla, check out Sanctuary, which is coming out later this year
I will be playing on both because I like the game but I've learned a long time ago that Blizzard will not give me or you what we want from the game and it's Ironic that Private servers are more authentic to the actual Vanilla experience than what Blizzard offers now

You have everlook for pure vanilla, but the server is old and was chink infested back when i played at launch. The rest is troony-core custom vanilla trash.
Wait for the upcoming warmane vanilla which should come out at the end of the year, that one will probably not be too bad.

can't recommend this at all for a number of reasons, chiefly the power tripping trannies that run the server that like to moderate recreationally so they make up reasons to wave their GM dicks around and interfere in the community constantly
I love turtle but yeah the power tripping GMs ruin the game for me, it's literally even worse than retail moderation. Absolute no fun allowed in public chats
if it were just that i could tolerate it but one time a janny started to threaten users that were dancing naked in SW and that was the last straw for me
I played Emerald Dream and Kronos in 2016-2017 and it was great
Classic Blizzard never gave the real feeling of Vanilla and are to my understanding pretty deserted

As a fellow nostalgia bro who also consumes vanilla content repetatively. aka a beaten wife The Hardcore challenge is pure soul and has poured back into the game so much of what I enjoyed about classic WoW. Namely the adventure of leveling. However, DO NOT USE OFFICIAL WOW SERVERS FOR IT. THEY ARE TRASH. You have been warned. Goodluck out there.

Ive talked to some and a good few simply join cause they want to play wow classic despite being the frickin locus they are. The question is why dont they make their own classic server chinese style? Im sure they would enjoy it more then playing at 400 ping on our servers. Frick they could do what chinks do and toss on some cash shop features.

played everlook for a bit and then the newish atlantiss TBC server. Im just used to using emotes and jumping to try to communicate lmao. had a chinese druid help me do a quest in Desolace and we were using like garbled google translate to talk. it makes me stop playing after a while because I know trying to do raids in a pug with no actual communication is gonna be shitty but the open world its kinda fun lol.
Official servers are good and alive, I leveled through MC the last few months and instantly was invited to one of many large guilds at like level 2, it just works. Go ahead and play if you want

i actually played on Everlook last year. absolute dogshit server infested with chinamen and full of bugged quests. devs didnt even respond to tickets. hopefully Sanctuary will be better. cant believe there are still bugged quests in 2023 in the private server community. like wtf? how hard is it to fix them?
Not very hard. A lot of servers just don't do even that bare minimum. As I recall, Nostalrius for instance had not fixed a single quest that doesn't work in MaNGOS by default (Lazy Peons, Plagued Lands, Counterattack!, and such like), although they did fix (make completable) the obvious leveling quests if not higher-level ones most people don't do (like Freedom for All Creatures). Since open source development of 1.12.1 emulator development effectively ceased when retail TBC launched, ditto for TBC and Wrath, but 3.3.5a development has continued to this day, open source Wrath emulation actually has much better scripting for vanilla content than any vanilla server. TBC is in the same boat (except that there's more to get right, so default state is even worse), but there have been some more ambitious servers like Atlantiss TBC, that have also paid great attention to the quality of vanilla content, making them also superior. And some servers have backported Wrath Trinitycore to older expansions so they get better questing and networking and such, although the backporting process itself might introduce errors in implementing the older patch mechanics (not much unlike Classic with its use of BFA/Shadowlands client and server).
