I never level speech anymore its more fun to go through the game as someone who is really terrible at negotiation. I may level Barter for Packrat on certain characters but I always make sure to buy stuff from merchants too. Making a Courier who is terrible at survival or medicine and just scrounges anything he can find is also fun.

Higher speech checks are rare. Theres one 90 if you wanna convince a former Legion psychopath not to kill one man. Then 100 for a current Legion psychopath but honestly who doesnt want to kill Lanius if theyre fighting against him? You just a combination of killed hundreds if not thousands of humans, ghouls, mutated wildlife, robots, and abominations just to get there either with mercy.
It's overpowered in the classics too
In 1 and 2 it was percentage based and skill dialogue wasn't explicitly labelled as such. Knowing exactly how much you need and at what point it will win the conversation for you makes it much more OP.
Can't wait for Fallout 4 New Vegas to drop so that I can return.

Dunno what you are playing on but booting up NV + loading into a save takes roughly 10 seconds in total and each load from/to an interior takes 2-3 seconds.

The Mojave Desert right now is a sparsely populated shithole with a handful of mining towns that are now mostly abandoned. The Mojave in FNV is untamed wasteland being contested by numerous factions who just want control of Hoover Dam and Vegas. Either for power (NCR, House) or to satisfy their own deranged, tumor afflicted ego (Caesar).

I remember feeling like such a boss when I managed to grab and keep the Scientist Suit and Rad-X the scientist's corpse leaves right next to the entrance, it's like a trophy. Even with capped rad resistance (85%) I still ended up using over a hundred rad away and could only move a few feet before needing to wipe the rads away
what's some good weapons to use? I want something practical, with stopping power, but alos not completely rare ammo. I don't want something that breaks immersion, like some crit bb gun build that makes everyone's head expode for no reason.
Light machine gun is good, 5.56 is plentiful and its versatile, only really being weak against high DT enemies like Brotherhood or Deathclaws.
Hunting Shotgun/Dinnerbell or Riot shotgun with all the shotgun traits is the ultimate though. You really can go through the whole game with just a nice shotty and a bunch of ammo types for any foe you encounter.

Why even bother with Fist of the North Rawr? Embrace of the Mantis King is way easier to get and is only slightly less overpowered (you'll only oneshot 95% of enemies instead of 99%).

Melee and unarmed builds are fun from an RPG/stats perspective but holy shit are they fucking boring to play
Only if you abuse VATS for the double damage and refuse to ever use a power attack/learn one of the unarmed specials. Or use a W+M1 melee like the chainsaw.

Which HD packs? The AI upscaled one that does every texture in the game or a bunch of the old ones like Ojo Beuno and whatever?
Didnt even realize there was an AI version- just the simple HD packs and widescreen. I dont need much, just want the details on all the small items to pop
Well I don't know much about the Deck but I'd probably avoid any texture packs in general but the big AI one in particular. It's the sort of thing that can give even a regular setup a workout.
personally i stay away from HD texture packs. They are known to cause alot of issues like stuttering due to engine limitations.
Honestly, the shitty 2010 graphics work well for the post apocalyptic theme. You'd be surprised how well the game can look with vanilla textures and a simple reshade/weather mod.
I did not enjoy Dead Money, I think it was the worst DLC. Bomb collars are not fun and neither are muh poison clouds.
