VENOM GAME

Practically confirmed at this point, and likely set between the 2nd and 3rd Spidey game. What are some must have mechanics, gameplay features, and fanservice to make for a good Venom game?

Killing everyone and generally being legitimately evil while also defeating something even more evil because it's in your way and threatening you. Venom is pure 1990's edgelord fantasy but these days everyone wants to make him a do-gooder "anti-hero" who only kills bad guys and is basically just Spider-Man with slightly different animations for finishing off enemies.

              Anonymous

Isn't Venom's entire shtick after his very initial run as a villain that he's the "lethal protector?" A kind of deluded horror movie monster who horribly maims or kills bad guys while earnestly trying to protect innocents?

                Anonymous

I don't know exactly when he got changed to that, but you're right and it's still lame. The whole point of getting to play as Venom is that you can be totally unhinged, not just kill the bad guys differently.

He's really never been a straight up villain, he just hated Spidey. Once he thought Pete was dead, he turned around to be a anti-hero pretty fast.

We already have Cletus in this universe, so it feels like a given that we'd get a Venom game with him as the main antagonist. If they do a design mixed/between his Spider-Man Unlimited cartoon and the skeletal knull comic variant, I'd be content. Question is, what would Cletus do to terrorize/threaten New York? We kinda already did the Web of Shadows thing.

Also Cardiac should totally be a intro villain too. Guy is not only underutilized, but has a gimmick that can hurt Venom too

Someone give me a quick run down on Carnage. Is he in Spiderman 2? I've only ever watched the movies and some of the games but I've seen images of Carnage and I always thought he looked incredibly unnerving.

I still remember my uncle telling me he was a version of Spiderman that died and came back from hell but he's actually just another alien parasite like Venom, right? What's his deal?

        Anonymous

Symbiotes split to make more, it split from venom and bonded with a serial killer cletus. The thing that sets it apart from venom is he tends to shift his limbs into bladed weapons more than venom and no WE stuff, they are a single entity.

In the game cletus runs a cult and gets a symbiote piece so they are setting him up for 3 ir a venom game.

        Anonymous

        >Is he in Spiderman 2?
Cletus Kassidy is, he hasn't gotten his symbiote. In game he leads some kind of weird fire cult.

Basic comic rundown/origin is that Cletus is a serial killer who received his own red symbiote, born from Venom's. He's a psycho that can morph is body into all sorts of nasty bladed weapons. The only real difference between Carnage and most symbiote users is that he's perfectly bonded to his. So while Eddie/Venom refer to themselves as "We" there's only "I" with Carnage. He's basically the worst kind of person to get these kind of monster powers

          Anonymous

I heard Cletus is played by Cameron Monaghan, is that right? They must have huge plans for him in the next game if so.

The Symbiotes of the Marivel universe are entities that bond to and/or absorb targets to use them for protection and/or nourishment.
The protection is generally to keep them incognito and to shield them from things they are hurt by, like loud sounds, fire, and angry mobs.
The nourishment part comes from the symbiotic factor. If it's a good bond, they bond heavily and work in tandem with their host, and the host eats enough for two. If it's a bad bond, they consume the host's body and/or mind.
This leaves behind a corpse, or a walking mindless drone that the Symbiote uses like a meat puppet until it rots.

When a Symbiote wants to give "birth," it splits off into other Symbiotes with similar personalities, powers, and needs. It's not a perfect 1:1 copy, though, and some get worse or better.
Carnage is the "child" of Venom. Vicious and hungry, he ended up bound to a serial-killer named Cletus.
Cletus went from a crazy murderer to a crazy murder with superpowers, but Carnage is in much more control that Cletus.
While that would normally leave a dead husks, Cletus loves being along for the ride, making it a stable pairing.
Everything worked out great, as long as you're Cletus or Carnage. It worked out terribly for everyone else.

I don't necessarily even hate hype. But it's the fact these comic book games and movies come out and there's very little to talk about with them in themselves because they are, as much people don't want to admit it, just okay at the very best and more often than not outright bad. I was excited to have a new Spidey game with the last one, but I played it and it was a 6/10 at most.

I was gonna say Halo 2 but that game just kind raised the stakes and depth of the games while it just intended to finish it all up in the next one. Even if Halo 3 had a cliffhanger ending it was obviously just to leave the door open in case they wanted to keep using master chief. There was no setup for what was actually supposed to come

Yup, that's just how everything is these days. If you avoid spoilers and wait for something (be it TV, movies, or games) to come out to experience it everyone will already be done talking about it on day 1 because they spent months already talking it to death before it ever even released. Actually watching the movie/episode or playing the game is purely performative; everyone does it to see everything play out exactly the way they were told it would play out and then they immediately talk about the next thing and the cycle repeats.

I've literally had people complain about me wanting to discuss the ending to a game like 2 days after it came out because everyone already knew the ending before the game released and were tired of talking about it.

I think an important question to ask is how should civilians react to Venom, and how should his movement differ from the spiders. What I want to see is Venom saving people from muggings/assaults, with the hilarity of the victims cowering in fear of their savior

They should run away in fear even after he helps them. One of comic runs of Venom is literally about both Eddie and symbiote coming to terms and realizing that no matter how much they're gonna help normal people will be afraid of Venom even if they try to be "good guys" not just anti heroes.

        Anonymous

Thats not true at all. Prototype always was meant to be original IP exactly because Radical was licensed games factory so they wanted to make their own IP finally and were working on it under table while making licensed projects. Game was in conceptual stage as early as late 2003 according to Holmes who was Lead Designer on it so even before they released Hulk UD.

No problem. Prototypes dev cycle was very interesting and game changed art director 3 times and as I said was in conceptual stage for years.
Game changed tonally a lot after Vivendi merger with Activision went through and they made them to make game more dark and redesign Mercer because he "looked too much like Altair from AC" at that time and power wise game also was scalled down and more grounded in comparison to what we got in retail. This is gameplay from build that according to Holmes already had changes imposed by Activision but not all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOiRqxxNvQc&t=127s

Why is the Symbiote completely resistant to fire? It's not even an oversight, they have the entire steel mill factory place specifically to show that fire doesn't hurt it like sound does, Harry even specifically says stuff like "I think this suit is fire proof".

I think that’s a recent retcon. Sound and electricity still work

It's confusing to me. They were supposed to be imprisoned so they didn't have access to their gear that actually allows them to fight. But then Kraven's hunters capture them offscreen somehow and give Vulture and Shocker their special equipment offscreen somehow to fight Kraven in a cage match offscreen.

It just means they raided the evidence lockers too. Plus I think Vulture can't be removed from his suit anymore. The oxygen mask isn't just for altitude, but life support for the old bird

Carnage is the best example of "Yeah, we should REALLY kill this bad guy". Great excuse to give Venom in this universe the title of "Lethal Protector". It's a serial killer psycho who is juiced up by an alien organism that makes his entire body a weapon, good luck reforming that.

Though what could Carnage do to New York? We already had a virus in the first game, and 2 had infected symbiote citizens. Wouldn't repeating the latter feel redundant? Or what about Carnage cloning himself instead of infecting people?

I think he was killed, multiple times. One time he was torn in half by the Sentry. Marvel still brought him back. Hell, the Carnage symbiote was devoured by Venom and destroyed for good.

The problem is that Cletus and his symbiote are truly one, they're bonded on a cellular level. He's basically a movie monster like The Blob or The Thing where he can reform even with the smallest piece left.

          Anonymous

I watched Venom: Let There Be Carnage a few days ago and it was weird how they make a big deal about Cletus and the Symbiote not bonding well and they use that to best him. The whole point of him is that they are a perfect match for each other.

            Anonymous

Yeah they really fricked that one up (but then again, those movies are butchered material anyway). There is no Cletus having a chat or bickering with his symbiote like with Eddie, it's just him. That's the whole damn point of him saying "I" instead of "We". Why even show him dodging bullets or the unique transformation if you're not going to stick with that? Also that move got weird because they were leaning hard into Lasher's gimmick just to help differ from Venom.

Maybe because yellow stands out more? I could give a rats ass about Phage and Riot. Lasher has somewhat of a gimmick, but then again regular symbiotes can do the tendril thing too.

He could just slice and dice like he's supposed to and it would feel unique

Yeah but how does that put all of New York in a crisis besides the one man rampage? We need enemy types too. If he could clone himself, maybe that could help amp up the stakes and mayhem

Maybe you don’t need the whole city in a crisis again? Especially for a guy like Peter, no severe problem with lives in danger should be below his notice. A serial killer story can be just as if not more compelling than saving the world, people like Jojo part 4 for a reason. Sure it makes a challenge of who the mooks might be, but that’s where you get creative.

Hey I'm not disagreeing, merely going by what the other plots had. Forgot to add the NuForm reactor crisis too. I guess what we really need is a display of heroism to get Spider-Man and maybe others off Venom's back for a while.

I rarely even like feet but Venom's do things to me for some reason, I think I like how dangerous his claws make them look.

How can you "play" this putrid garbage and not feel embarassed at the state of your life? You'd be less pathetic playing Hyperdimension Neptunia and thats saying a lot.

Why was the Venom symbiote so hostile to Peter but eventually got along with Eddie Brock and let him become a hero?

The symbiote is one half physical other half mental. Not only did it enhance Peter's strength, but it dug out all of his repressed guilt and anger that he had buried for years. It didn't really do anything wrong, merely get confused and imprinted by its host's negative traits. Then like a spurred lover, the symbiote rebound to Eddie to get back at Peter

It's sad that we will never get gay lust kino or any actual good gay representation at all because it's all written by moronic straight woman who get all their knowledge about what men are like from their feminist studies and vapid projections.

so what's the general consensus of Vulture, Shocker and Electro getting killed off screen with barely any mention? Scorpion at least showed up and spoke.

At least they had full careers. Not like shitty movies where they die on their first outing
