fantasy warhammer >>>>>> homosexual fricking 40k
Nah, they just opted to do the most boring fricking shit imagineable fot Darktide
>Have tons of factions to pick from
>Have the set-up to provide leeway for multiple factions cooperating
>Some of the best aspects of Vermintide are that you have Bardin and Kerillian to provide some representation beyond the Empire, with their own issues and quirks
>Instead make it about a bunch of shitty literal rejects from IG, the most boring faction in the game
>Have them against Nurgle CULTISTS (Not Marines or Daemons, CULTISTS), when Nurgle is by far the most boring Chaos God
>Snub the game harder by making no actual characters, just create-a-character nonsense that strips down the interactions to terrible generic crap
>On top of that release it in a broken state, with few levels to play through, missing several key features, and immediately declare your team is going in vacation rather than fixinf issues
im inclined to disagree, I like both WHFB and 40k but with 40k GW will never let people explore anything that isnt a hive world or a desolate wasteland, youre way more restricted in your options especially since they always want to drive home how everything is gothic-industrial.
Their choice to always make Chaos the main antagonist sucks too, the more interesting factions in WHFB usually arent chaos, theyre more of a faceless boogieman and every major villain they try to push falls flat. On top of that they've allowed the chaos factions to get increasingly more flanderized for ages now.
There's major flaws, arguably more dealbreaking ones with the design beyond putting it in the 40k universe but I also think we'll never see anything as interesting. Hell, the main reason Vermintide got to do what it wanted was cause they just killed off WHFB and GW wasnt as involved as it usually is.
I think you and I are technically agreeing in a roundabout way.
40k has the POTENTIAL to give a really good VT-like game, but due to bad decisions during production Darktide ends up falling flat.
>I like both WHFB and 40k but with 40k GW will never let people explore anything that isnt a hive world or a desolate wasteland, youre way more restricted in your options especially since they always want to drive home how everything is gothic-industrial.
That's objectively wrong though, just look at the variety that Rogue Trader is showing off not to mention that the Necrons and Dark Eldar are present as well. I feel it's more Fartshit going the path of least resistance rather than GW fricking around
Necron are space egyptians now and Dark Eldar are space elves in an even more flanderized fashion now though.
GW always wants the imperium to be depicted as the same gothic-industrial authoritarian shithole.
You're right, I didn't mean to say the Vermintide 2 launch was worse or not, just that one should always ignore the games Fatshark launches for a week at least. The concious design decisions they made for Darktide made it go from a game with potential to game I dont even want to touch anymore. In a year, MAYBE, they'll be able to get the game where they should've been for launch. But thats with the notion in mind that they'd keep the mechanics like crafting the way they are. Community backlash has been intense enough that through gritted teeth they've admitted they need to make changes, so except it to be more than a year post-launch for it to be worth touching.
Yeah, its a shame and I've put off Darktide also. Waiting a year or two and it should be manageable.
Ita honestly quite miraculous how Fatshark managed to shit the bed so hard that even 40k fans abandon and dislike the game (who are known to enjoy any slop with 40k logo and skulls on it, myself included)
I'm convinced this is all GW liscense shenanigans. I get rogue trader exsits but I FEEL like they only liscense out certain things for certain games. Like they only dropped IG and Nurgle for this one, or space marine being orks and daemons, space marine 2 being nids and most likely daemons.
And when you do get factions you're only allowed certain things. It's all connected!
I think the official explanation for their focus on Nurgle is
>Khorne is all melee and berserkers, leading to boring enemy designs
>Tzeentch is hard to portray, as you can't really get the whole schemes within schemes aspect in a horde clicker game
>Slaanesh enemies would consist mostly of censor bars, plus the sexual overtones would be "problematic" to say the least
which leaves Nurgle as the "safe" faction that can be easily portrayed in all aspects, and has a varied roster of enemies.
I mean all of these argument fall apart now that Boltgun is out. A seamless mix of cultists and daemons for both Nurgle and Tzeentch. Chaos Wastes also provides opportunities to learn from ratclick. Start a mission, it's marked by one of the gods. This affects the cultists and which daemons can spawn. Bloodletters, Pink horrors, Daemonettes, or Plague toads/nurglings. It also affects cultist behavior. The real issue is that Fatshit doesn't want to be fricked modeling daemons and getting their AI to work.
to be fair that would quadruple the scope of the enemies they can present.
Wow sounds like the game got 4 times as fun.
it also got 4 times as expensive to produce, which warrent more aggressive monetization. oops there goes all the fun.
Why the frick are you making excuses for Fatshit's laziness? Making additional daemon models wouldn't bloat the entire cost of development by a factor of 4, nor would adding god specific modifiers to levels since they literally already have them with Vermintide. There is absolutely no excuse for, at the very fricking least, making the primary faction we face something other than Nurgle which we had already spent YEARS killing in Vermintide. I mean frick Vermintide launched with at least 2 different enemy factions, they couldn't even do that?
Im not saying they couldnt have done it, im saying they probably chose not to because it would greatly increase the upfront cost to produce it. You have to remember theyre owned in large share by fricking Tencent so they have to be economical to some degree.
Vermintide launched with 2 factions because it just ported over all of the Skaven from VT1. Why they even bothered making beastmen remains a mystery though.
I would've liked 4 different chaos factions too, especially since you could lean heavily into how an imperial landscape would shift and change under the dominion of each god. Still, it would be more realistic for them to launch with 1-2 factions and add more as they went. But thats obviously not the plan. FS consistently makes every bad decision they can after all.
Could also be that they did nurgle already in 2 and had more experience with it. Though admittedly the chaff is probably easier to design as zombies basically.
I stinks because I feel like skaven being the enemy in vermintide was pretty standout.
>immediately declare your team is going in vacation rather than fixinf issues
Wasn't this a bullshit excuse to avoid admitting that half the team quit after release ?
My autism drifted me away from 40k. I started getting into numbers and the fact that a chapter of space marines only consists of a couple hundreds marines always bothered me.
There's a reason for that actually
I am sure there is. It's still stupid, no matter the reason
Yes, but the numbers still don't add up. Most HH legions had hundreds of thousands of marines. This alone is still patently ridiculous for an entire fricking galaxy but still slightly more believable than the chapters limit of 1,000. Even assuming a massive die-off of marines during the heresy, there should still be like 5 times as many chapters as there are now from the original legions. And even then it's still moronic. There's allegedly 1000 chapters pre-primaris and if they were all at full strength that's 1 million marines. Even that is laughably small, there should be tens of millions of marines to man an entire galaxy. Hell put a billion marines into the setting and it'd still be fine compared with the trillions of guardsmen.
It's a thousand not a couple of hundred.

That explains why the most attractive female face in DT has a massive lantern jaw, and the haircuts are fifty shades of crackhead. Really capturing that Innsmouth look.

Sad
AoS isnt canon
I'm sorry anon, but it is.
make a lobby
How would you even know if was the Ganker one? You can't put names on your lobbies.
you can link lobby invites of any game that supports joining through steam

How do you use these in the new steam gui?
40k is thematically ugly and lifeless, nobody wants to look at it. It is fine for tabletop where you're focused on the characters, but It will never work in a video game where you have to be immersed in an environment.
Fantasy chads will always win because people want a connection to nature
Darktide sucked the SOVL away. Character creator was a mistake.
it could've worked with better writing, but what they wrote was just awful. the entire story is awful if you can even call it that. The maps are boring and samey, the enemies don't have much character.
We already saw this kinda thing slip in with VT2. the Skaven got sidelined in their own game and the Chaos and Beastmen enemies have way less personality. Even the Skaven specials continue to be the best ones in terms of design and memorability.
Chaos Wastes need more maps
Vermintide 2's launch was a fricking disaster too. Never buy a Fatshark game on launch, wait at least a year and see if they unfricked their catastrophic launch by then. The first half a year or so will be spent on a port to consoles which they promise totally won't take away any resources from development.
I was there for VT2. It simply wasnt this bad and anyone claiming otherwise just doesnt know better. Among these are:
- Darktide's crafting system is built on gacha mechanics. You'll be rolling for that 3% chance upgrade forever since they are not doing entire loot and stat balancing from ground up again
- Map variety still sucks: you spend 80% of time treading same recycled tileset rooms. There's like 5 maps worth of unique content in the entire game. VT had 13 ON LAUNCH. This will take years upon years to improve with their pace
- Weapon balance is even worse mess with most weapons having 1-2 good blessings and everything else is shit, not to mention most classes have 1-2 weapons that vastly outperform others. They arent rebalancing all weapons anytime soon and the shit blessings will stay because their point is to dilute roll pools.
- Its been half a year and they are STILL in pre-launch phase: you literally cannot roll over 80% on any weapon since thats reserved for reds that they havent even implemented (unlike VT2). You are literally buying an unfinished game.
- Matchmaking is even more ass and will never be fixed since less lobbies saves (marginally) on server costs
Nah that's the secret, we're back to vt1 levels of stupid. Darktide 2 will come out and do the vt2 thing, which is come out pretty good then release basically frickall until like 4 years later since fatshark will start working on age of shittide or something and then once that squirts out darktide 2 will get content.
God I wish we could go back to Vermintide 1 where the game got fixed towards the end and everyone was happy with it.
It still has better lighting than 2 in some areas, though probably because its all at night.
Also why the frick can't they just port the rest of 1 into 2.
There's more than that going on. The shaders for metal stuff for example are different. Weapons look way better in VT1.
Skin looks weird in VT2 as well.
I liked the dingier style, though I do enjoy the lighting in some maps of 2 more. It's a mixed bag and I wish there were ways to have both 🙁
I would love to have side missions from 1 in 2. Wheat and Chaff and Black Powder were so fricking fun
I hope you enjoy GETTING FRICKED THEN YOU STUPID DUMB IDIOT. - Fatshark
Is it weird I'd have a bomb shelter/bunker made under my house, but spend the majority of my time down in it? I want to make it cozy and comfy with a PC setup, fake fireplace and wood wall paneling.
Going for only randomly mission variants over big set piece missions. Feel like there should have been a set of story line missions then have had the random ones on the side.
I wish darktide was about orks going around looking for fights or something
I wish it had been Deathwatch.
>marines from different chapters with their own unique personalities
>actual kino 40k weapons like meltaguns, heavy bolters, thunder hammers, plasma guns yes I know plasma guns are actually in the game but you know what I mean
>forced to put enemies in the game that wouldn't be torn to tissue paper by space marines
>Deathwatch are anti-xeno so they wouldn't be able to just copy/paste their nurgle cultists from VT into darktide and would be forced to make new enemies and models
We missed out.
I would prefer if it was chaos cultists/mercenaries saving a borderline fricked part of the Black Crusade.

kerillian is built for shotas
What the frick were they thinking when they decided to go with a character creator for DT when the Vermintide cast is so beloved
its probably easier to make and sell cosmetics for them like this. with some of the design decisions for VT they got limited in what they could do, in particular with kerillian who for some fricking reason needs to keep most of her face concealed at all times.
I think it could've still worked if they had just given much more personality to each voice type.
Increased cosmetic sales. Basically all shitty decisions come down to saving money or getting you to spend more
>Cannot host lobbies or single-player games so they save on server costs
>Crafting is shitty and grindy to get you to treadmill longer, increasing chance of cosmetic sales
>Maps recycle most of their tiles because that way you save on development costs
>Apparently making more weapons/balance changes takes too much time, but for some reason they got weekly changing new cosmetics with same-day cash shop hotfixes without issues
>Crafting had to be redone to shitty amalgam it is today to get you to spend money on gambling instead of customizing a weapon you like and using that one (monetization was pulled off and drops improved due to shitstorm)
I am sorry master dwarf but my eardrums are not accustomed to dwarven songs

the dead, what else
Fantasy proving it's superiority over 40K once again!
Remember when fartshart promised a new class every 3 months, 9 months later there's 0 (ZERO) new classes. At this rate, we'll get Sienna's 4th career before Darktide get's its 5th class KEK
The game just isn't fun, they somehow made combat completely uninteresting in the way that VT is.
Yes, they made a bunch of other bad decisions, but I really don't care about setting or characters so it'd be easy to overlook if the game was at least fun.

REMINDER OF WHO THE REAL CHADS ARE WHO RUN THIS GAME
Kerillian (fun-sized).
I really wish this dude didn't caved in to the coomer stuff and kept making ishikawa/nagai inspired art.
He had talent.
My only problem is that he seems addicted to the idea of Kerillian fricking rats. He draws great coom, but the subject matter leaves a lot to be desired.
>addiicted to depicting the truth as it is
I kneel
I think Fartshart thought the 40k license could carry a half finished piece of shit (wasn't Dan Abnett supposed to have written the story? like holy frick there's less of a story than fricking Doom).
they made him write weapon descriptions and got some shemale to write the story, characters and quirky dialogue
Yeah looking into it Fishyshit did a sneaky by saying Dan Abnett wrote stuff for the game when really he just wrote a line and fricked off with his pile of money whilst Fartshit thought it was a great story to have the traitor be a literal chaos mcchaostraitorface that we only see once
Like say what you want about Matt Ward but he atleast did some good stuff with VT2 which actually had a story
I thought the troon wrote Chaosgate?
its funny too cause Matt Ward and Magnus Liljedahl wrote Vermintide's dialog. Presumibly most of the story was written by them, though a lot of the item descriptions and stuff include so much obscure lore I wouldnt be surprised if some big nerds in the company wrote that.
Either way, Matt Ward was known for writing drivel that constantly jacked off the space marines. I heard fa/tg/uys say before he's actually a decent writer, but GW twists his arms into writing shit. And I suppose Vermintide proves them right.
It was just "funny" seeing people get excited for Darktide when they heard Dan Abnett wrote it, who is typically seen as a better writer only for the story to go from dogshit to non-existant.
Yeah I've heard Ward's newer stuff is actually pretty decent and isn't like his Ultramarine wank in his early days. Not to mention that the Newcrons were his work which lead to characters like Trazyn
I dont like newcrons, personally. I understand an entire faction of Terminator robots with a single head honcho with any kind of personality wasnt very interesting, but making them space tomb kings was just lazy. That also wasnt Ward's call though.

My little sister will only play Kerillian’s 3 main careers because she won’t play as a man or a hag. She has been up your cata and legend lobbies recently by the way!

Jokes on you, I only play on Veteran
Good thing I main elf so I won't see her.
It's honestly impressive how mishandled everything about Darktide was and still is. Those FOMO cosmetics must be making them a pretty penny, I really can't see another reason why they'd feel comfortable letting the game simmer in its blatantly unfinished state without relevant fixes or content updates for this long, and then go on vacation for almost two months of radio silence, which is then broken with the most recent comm link really just telling players to wait another couple weeks for maybe something to happen.
>obvious answer
>still go with a bunch of shit taking moronic shots at peoples taste in fantasy using obvious strawmen and lowest common denominator shit
Some people deserve to have their hands pushed into a blender.
>faults of the game so glaring that conversation drifts back to the actual pertinent issues
At least there some hope.
Makes me happy that you guys ruined some soft c**ts bait thread.
Made for rat wiener.
>Rat

>these fricking unchivalrous posts
What's the matter, temp banned from the general so you have to bring your stupid shit here? Go outside or something you crusty pubic hair
still expecting them to do a tyranids as second faction, would be quite easy to match them up too.
pox burster - spore mine swarm
trapper hound - leaper or gargoyle or lictor
bulwark / reaper - warrior with diff loadouts
bomber / flamer - biovore / pyrovore
>expecting Fatshit of all people to model a Termagaunt/Lictor/Other Tyranid that has a significantly different movement profile than a human
Funny.
yeah true, this is more likely if they announced a darktide 2
They dn't announce these things they just casually slow down or drop development of current thing and say they totally defnitly have multiple teams.
Then like a year of stagnant game they announce that a new game by the 2nd team that totally exists is in the work.
>Implying a second faction would ever happen
>Implying if it did it wouldn't just be reskinned Cultists for Genestealers
most of the animations are re-used from vermintide. Expect them to be economical about it and try to re-use as many assets as possible. So probably no tyranids.
The only way Tyranids might ever find their way into a -tide game is in the form of genestealer cults, because yeah, they're basically just humans with the odd extra arm.
I hope you arent saying theyre too powerful for our rejects when we can take on daemonhosts n shit.
No, but genestealer cults are just way easier to model and animate. Other than reusing animations, and even entire enemies, Fatshark also doesn't do non-humanoid models and animations particularly well. Just look at the dogs in DT, and how completely fricked they are.
I still want an Eldar game
sorry anon Eldar are the eternal back-up dancers of the 40k franchise
>back-up dancers
More like punching bags.
Im genuinely surprised that darktide went down the drain, they didn't even bother trying to save this one and the sad part is that there was more potential for the game to be like left 4 dead.
didn't it go free to play? not hard to get high players from brazil, etc when you're free to play
Early vt2 was a wild time
That it was.
