Pokemon like Flutter Mane and mechanics like Dynamax make it so when I see someone say "they balance the game around doubles" I think less of them as a human being. GameFreak doesn't balance the game what so ever, and even if they cared more about doubles balancing, it's clear shit like Flutter Mane and Dynamax were not "balanced for doubles" considering how stupidly broken they are.
VGC is only doubles because it's a faster format. TPC wants to spend as little as possible renting a place out for the tournaments, so the faster the battles go, the faster the tournaments can conclude and the faster they can pack up without paying for another day of use.

There's some centralising mons, sure, but there's a lot of ways in which you can get inventive in beating them and other common teams
Both forms of Articuno made Day 2 of Liverpool this weekend, and there were loads of niche picks that made Day 2 as well like Gallade, Bronzong, Araquanid, Weezing and Registeel (which even made Top 8)
Extend it to Top 256 and you get all sorts of freaky Pokemon that made 6-3 or better
Honestly way more varied than the XY meta
nothing wrong with that, since no pokemon has 100% usage. you aren't forced to use flutter mane or urshifu just because most people want to.

This. 4v4 doubles is the fastest possible format that still lets you have Pokemon in the back.
