I'm an EU4 baby trying to expand my horizons and since I like the era I was initially looking to try Victoria 2 but there seems to be a lot of contention about the game and Paradox in general here. What games would you recommend that could explore the era better if Victoria 2 is actually bad?
Pride of Nation
What's good about it compared to Vicky2? The steam reviews are mixed.
You will see why V2 is actually good
I don't follow.
>I was initially looking to try Victoria 2 but there seems to be a lot of contention about the game and Paradox in general here
There is virtually no contention. Victoria 2 is virtually hailed as a great game no matter where you look to, the best you'll find for people who actually think that Vic2 is bad are contrarian trolls and literal vic3 shills. It's not a perfect game, but it's easily one of the best Paradox has made and the last place you should ever use contention as a good reason to avoid a game is Ganker considering all everyone does here is fight about shupid shit. Case in point, I'm fighting you right now on the stupid shit you typed in your post.
Any specific subsets of strategy you're looking for?
Like said victoria 2 is universally considered a great game, there are reasons not to like the game due to taste but the contrarian arguments are all moronic.
I'm somewhat fond of it but it's a horrible first time experience for a newbie.
Kek
vic2 shills frick off
the game is a broken bloated mess dont waste your time, the ai shits itself because it cant understand half the mechanics and you get shit like rebels popping up all over europe and russia blobbing into china
>playing vanilla
I have been playing around vanilla for a while and I have been trying to find suitable mods that will fix/spice up the game a bit but the communities around seem kind of divided and recommend different stuff so I don't know where to start
Start with HPM.
>the ai shits itself because it cant understand half the mechanic
That's every paradox game ever though
Shill some more paradrone
Victoria 2 might not be a good game, but it is the closet paradox have ever come to making a good game.
>if Victoria 2 is actually bad?
It's not, it's pretty good.
Wait for Victoria 3. But fair warning. Its going to be such an enthralling game you will quite literally crap your pants with excitement. We are talking jets of hot liquid shit here. Discharged from your anus at high speed and with no prisoners taken. Have plenty of towels and changes of clothes ready.
Okay, I have plenty of towels and some fresh clothes, now what?
>Discharged from your anus at high speed and with no prisoners taken
Juicy.
Hot
vicky2 is the best parashit game even if it's flawed
once you play it, it will ruin eu4 for you forever due to how shallow it is
This, I made a mistake playing Vic2 because I can't handle how shit eu4 is compared to it
same meiou and taxes mod was the only reason i touched EU4 after vicy 2
Should I learn to play with the HPM mod on or start with vanilla first?
HPM. Switzerland is designated babby's first country with sky high literacy, stability, good resources, all parties having State Capitalism economic policy (the easiest one) and of course Swiss neutrality meaning you don't have to worry about your neighbours kicking your ass.
You ALWAYS start ANY game by playing vanilla, you double-Black person zoomer. What sort of question is that even?!
Unsheathe your autism anon if the game is radically different modded/with dlc why would you learn to play it twice?
Why would you subject yourself to that?
moron
>start by playing a barebones version of the game that nobody plays and you eventually stop playing too
That's moronic, just download HPM or Bandi and don't ever even touch vanilla.
Anno1800
But yeah, there aren’t that many good games in the victorian era, kinda sad honestly, I’d love for more to be set in it
How is HPM Plus? Is it a straight upgrade from HPM?
Its HPM with some changes from crimeamod and some other mods. I played it a bit but there seemed to be some sort of problem with pop promotion (pops having -116 to promotion just because)
Yeah the crimeamod AI is what got my attention, but pop promotion being fricked is kinda gamebreaking lmao it's also currently in active development so hopefully the bugs will get squared away
Anyone played Blood and Iron mod? Is it any good?
vic2 sucks, it has an appealing simulation that might seem detailed and intricate but all the "strategy" and gameplay is summed up by a flowchart. no, mods don't change this, in fact they make it worse by prolonging your suffering with millions of railroaded events and scripted shit that doesn't matter
Big Grey Blob make my peepee hard, simple as.
This, learning how it actually all works destroys all appeal the game has.
the prices are actually hardcoded and only ever change short term, same factories are the optimal choices every game
