It'll never happen. The industry is too diverse and spread out.

technically the videogame industry has been crashing since about late 2012, we've entered rock bottom territory

They should try a new strategy. Like making good games. I know it's crazy but it may just work.

Nah, they just need more sassy interns to ruin brand reputation by shitting on fans on Twitter, that's what'll get them back in the black.

It is, in fact, it's the entire western industry crashing and burning. I'm hoping entertainment in the west goes back to normal again, this will be a page in the history books about how 2015 to late 2020s had an era of political correctness and shit.

It's still incredibly bloated. Modern releases prove that hiring more people doesn't mean a better product.

    Only Nintendo will survive.

    >Sony is moving their gaming department and is giving the PS5 a slow death, Sony will sell off all of it's gaming IPs at piecemeal and will be reserved on mobile gacha games as Fate Grand Order makes more money in a month then all of PlayStation makes in a year.
    >Microsoft is becoming more and more third party by the day.

imo it's gonna be a sega situation again. the stakes are really high for both of them, and whoever manages to stay afloat for loger will keep doing business in the market while the other will go down, maybe even more so than sega even did. xbox may simply fail definitively, but there's a chance playstation will implode on it's management
nintendo is going to stay the same gimmick console producer, more focused on games than hardware, so there's simply no way we won't be left with higher end consoles by the next decade (unless nintendo sneakily deals the final blow with an actual balls to the wall powerful switch successor but i doubt it)
what i really think is going to be interesting is whether or not any other company will try to get in the market, like apple or amazon. i really don't want that to be fair.

Triple A companies are just going back to pre 2009 staffing levels, they've been bloated ever since. Anyone who seriously thinks a video game market crash can happen is a moron.

It has nothing to do with the industry. Look at the financial state of the world. Everything's going to shit for everyone other than banks.

I don't see it recovering, the well has been poisoned with awful business practices and its too lucrative to chase easy money and make mobile/gacha shit even with all these failures and layoffs. They will drive themselves into the ground and continue these awful practices no matter what the cost and losses are.

Tech has changed to much for things to return to the way they once were. Games have to completely crash as a form of entertainment and struggle to market themselves to anyone outside of a niche audience.

There won't be a crash for a very simple reason: there is a demand for videogames.

    >normies to frick off
Not happening. Videogames pretty much became one of the main entertainment industries, on par or even above TV and above movies.
The only way videogames can become niche again is if another hobby or entertainment medium replaced or eclipsed them.

You said that in the early 80s and look what happened.

At that time the videogame industry was on its infancy and the landscape was completely different from today.

The industry as a whole isn't going to crash, demand for video games will continue to exist and not every single publisher and developer is doing the moronic shit those other companies are guilty of. The AAA market was the one unsustainable and now we're merely seeing those corporations see the results of their actions.
