Video games should not be a narrative experience

They should be spiritually closer to sports or board games, skills to be mastered, rather than art projects to be consumed passively and mindlessly.

    >spiritually closer to sports
Video games are the antithesis of physical activity you pathetic loser. They're a basic-b***h hobby for lazy fat morons and that's it, don't try to imply that they can be similar to things that actually improve your health.

You're spiritually moronic if you think an activity where you cultivate masses of lard is the same as the complete opposite of that.

Imagine your favorite movie/show. Would you not want it in Detroit: Become Human style? If no, why would you want to gatekeep as a gamer so bad?

Sometimes I want a game out of my video games and sometimes I want an experience kinda like how you can fish or play the piano just to relax and go through the motions. I don't see why we cant have both

people are naturally more engrossed in performing certain tasks if they are given a narrative that supplies a reason for doing them
which is why even arcade games had leaderboards and high scores, it's just a different kind of motivator

funny you bring up board/tabletop games, because outside of shit like chess they're actually pretty reliant on having narrative context to nest their mechanics in.

That's what e-sports are. Counter Strike, Street Fighter, Rocket League, etc. are all endless competitions of skill mastery akin to sports.
