South Park is not for kids, not even ironically.

My parents thought it was a kid show and had me watch when they saw it was on. fricking turkey episode traumatized me as a 7 year old kid.

Your parents are moronic and would probably have bought you Conker or Leisure Suit Larry as a 5 year old.

Im so sorry. Bet that gave you nightmares.
I once snuck into my parents bedroom after they put me to sleep as a kid. Mid 90s, loved Curious George. Flipped through the tv channels and came across this stop motion animation Mad TV sketch.

            ?si=W8LHZCtExnbpbbkj
I heard that Shigisato Itoi as a child snuck into a murder detective movie as a little boy and saw a woman getting killed viciously. It scared him so hard that the shockwaves of that fear rippled in his mind and was what he used to write Earthbound's Gigyas and the climactic final boss fight. Frankly, I understand.

Man, you must have been either really young or a gigantic pussy. I remember staying up to watch MadTV with my dad, and I was like 6-7 at the time and never had any issues.

A little of both, I was a meek 5 yesr old boy, I was in the demographic for Curious George. But you honestly don't think the cruelly treated test animals, the violence, the cognative dissonance of the narrator juxtiposed with the events, or the physically tortured humans weren't something a little child who adored him? Plus remember using animation like this was incredibly rare for its time. I think the only other thing that spooked me this bad was catching the scene in Mars Attacks where the humans failed to make peace with the aliens, also ironically discovered through channel flipping.

*a little child who adored him would find horrifying and mind warping?
Like, that shit might happen in adult shows, but you as a little kid never think you're going to watch someone half decent make an animation of Sonic thr Hedgehog getting decapitated or something

See I think that's our main difference, Mars Attacks was one of my dad's favorite movies and sometime around that timeframe we watched it together.

maybe it's the sociopath in me but I truly did not give a shit about the grossout humor no matter how brutal the content of the episode became, just because I didn't know who these characters were or why I should care that they got raped to death

My parents rented bigger, longer and uncut for me when I was around 4 or 5, thinking it was a childrens cartoon.
I had absolutely no idea what was going on since I'm ESL, but at some point my parents just hastily ejected the VHS.
I remember the movie being pretty tame though so no clue why they did that, been ages since I last saw it.
Could've been because of all the swearing I guess.. Which doesn't make much sense since the words would've meant absolutely nothing to me.

The early seasons before it got cancelled were genuinely good. It felt like a Simpsons parody at a lot of times, but it worked. All the memorable moments are from that era and they actually put effort into the animation.

      >never liked FG much
      >recently catch some FG clips on goybook and ig
      >"huh it's kinda funny maybe I should give it another try"
      >it's still meh at best
Family Guy is literally "funny moments compilation: the show", Seth and other writers can think of a funny joke but are absolte shit at actual screenwriting

Family Guy is just the heheh funny cutaway gag show now
If you want writing go with American Dad which is basically just what if Family Guy but no funny cutaway gag

Seth should honestly bring back that one variety show so he wouldn't be hamstrung by having to make an actual show.

Why did it get so popular on Cartoon Network anyway? That's when I started watching it too. But why? Fox was around, I already watched The Simpsons on Fox, I've seen Family Guy and kind of watched it but never clicked until it was on CN. Maybe it was on at a better time? Enough reruns to play episodes every single night? It's strange. Breaking Bad blowing up on Netflix I get, but everyone that has CN has Fox too.

It got cancelled and AS was willing to host re-runs, also that and Futurama. Different times where you could watch shows anywhere at anytime.

It's been a long time but I remember everyone that I talked to on the internet at time, as well as friends from school, looked forward to all of the cool anime that was airing late at night, especially inuyasha. And it absolutely fricking exploded when fullmetal alchemist came out. Futurama and family guy that preceeded the hour before this were like an appetizer before the main course, and they were genuinely good so we all enjoyed it those as a bonus. It was the definitive example of organic growth because it appealed to a different audience compared to the networks they were cancelled from.

I've been rewatching family guy now, from the start to finish and I'm at season 21 now and the later seasons are just painful.
There's barely any jokes, half the episodes are about Meg and Lois, the characters are NOTHING like they were at the start. It feels like women write the show now.

The first seasons were genuinely really good.

I had to skip the "what if (well known story) but Family Guy character episodes" almost entirely when I did that, I have no idea who likes these episodes. I even skipped the critically acclaimed Star Wars parodies. American Dad feels like it retained a lot of the early Family Guy style of humor, even after going to TBS.

Or the "Stewie and Brian timetravel" episodes. The writer's room was probably thinking "it would be hilarious if Stewie could kick Hitler in the nuts. How do we make this happen?"

I'm having a blast with the game and I heavily recommend it to everyone in this thread.
Capcom is a good company and the performance and microtransaction drama has been greatly exaggerated! I'm having a blast with it, try it out.
