What do you consider the problems with vidya MCs these days? Just saying they're "not good" or "not interesting" doesn't communicate what issue you're actually taking with them.
I don't want to frick them
They have literally no personality.
Vidya protags aren't even supposed to have a personality most of the time. They are designed to be self inserts or otherwise an interface into the gameplay.
I hope that loser isn't your example of a good protagonist because Okabe is one of the most unlikable main characters I can think of from anything.
>Nnooo I can't relate to this character he's mean/ugly
See for an example of this mentality
If you don't like them then they're poorly written, so all protagonists need to be super similar.
If a character is a subhuman then I don't want to hear his story. It's not as complicated as you're making it out to be.
Games are afraid to give their MCs flaws/weaknesses, which in turns to more boring characters when theres little to challenge them.
>visual novels
>video games
lol
that aside, okabe is so fricking moronic i could not even stomach watching past episode 8
No offense but you sound like the moronic one.
>have clear instructions on what to do to save the world and the resources for it handed directly to you (the ibm at the shrine)
>instead decide to hand out magical timeline-fricking phonecalls for all your friends and acquaintances until the timeline fricks you out of the one thing you actually need
no
i get that this is anime and characters need to be moronic to artificially create a confict for the story to solve but god fricking damn is it painful to watch
Videogame MCs nowdays are either cardboard cutoffs for you to self insert and take a picture or have too much personality they loop back to being a disgusting "human" being which makes superhero quips every 5 seconds and is spiritually and morally from california.
The reason you believe the only good MCs are stuck in decade old VNs (such as Hououin Kyoma) is because Japan was adept at releasing VNs like china and korea does releasing mobage phone shit.
>have too much personality
Like who?
Play more games, OP.
We don't play games here on Ganker.
because every game now has to be an RPG-lite where the main character cant have a personality because you need to create them yourself
I get that kinda thing in an MMORPG but for a single player RPG i never understood it. Even persona 5 more or less made joker a blank stand in unfortunately.
Maybe you should read them before judging like a complete ignoramus?
>wrote an MC for my game idea
>been trying to figure out how the hell to make their ability work that doesnt make game a cake walk
harder than i thought it would be honestly.
what ability is it
Regeneration. I know it's not super original but it's part of the story. The MC (girl) is an alcholic/drug user due to said regeneration power because they prevent her from falling asleep, so she relies on copious amounts of the above to try to knock herself out for a while, and sometimes resorting to just suiciding to not be awake for a while (but since she hates pain its always a last resort). She will always eventually die from sleep deprivation however.
The one thing i got so far combat wise with idea is just while she regenerate in combat, she has a 2nd psyche meter that as it deteriorates from regeneration of hp, and the more corrupted it gets the closer she gets to losing her mind and her vision/controls start to go ham. If she doesnt have item to restore psyche and it runs out, she wakes up back in hub pre mission, which potentially has some kind of impact on surrounding characters if she blacks out enough during missions.
Well there is a Wolverine game with a regenerating character, and they basically just gave him a cool damage model stripping him down to bloodied skeleton when he takes too much punishment
Yeah I played it long ago. I was thinking of what to do clothes wise as well since if the MC is female, might be a problem. Regeneration clothes because they are made out of her hair?
You can probably work around it by establishing that MC's regeneration is merely "good enough" and only quickly restores critical bodily functions, and fine details like the normal human skin take longer to recover (off-screen). Basically, she should wear some rough skin texture that wouldn't show genitals in detail until you can justifiably put clothes on her.
VNs are the biggest midwit magnets ever created.
>What would you do to make main characters better?
Make him submissive and breedable
>entirely mute
>worshipped by some, abhored by others
>a whole city is erected just for you to trash as long as you revel in it
>destroyer of worlds
>is a fricking blackhole
I don't understand, where is his head?
>Okabe
>good MC
Steins;Gate isn't nearly as good as you think it is.
