Yet fricking minecraft has better combat, and that's a tragedy for a game like this. I literally didn't even want to engage in it whereas in minecraft I kill everything that moves. The AI is moronic, the animations are janky as shit, it's difficult to judge range, and the monsters need a visual update to stop looking like moving dung piles along with an increase in size.
Once they overhaul the combat, and if the dev stops being a moron and gives it a steam release, it will be a pretty good game but for now it's SLOP.
>Would rather the devs keep 100% of the money that I spent on buying this game
I'm not saying that's not understandable, however consider the following: If they put it on steam and put up with the 30% steam cut, they would sell more than three times as many copies. The steam cut is very light in proportion to how much it helps sales for games of exactly this studio size.
If you want the devs to make more money you'd want them to put the game on steam.
This. On top of having a steam market banner that minute 30 70 cut would be completely ignorable if they're selling millions of copies. If that oiece of shit Valheim managed to sell a million copies in almost a month Vintsge Story could do the exact same if not more.

to be fair valheim has a lot more mass appeal than this game, it's too hard on the crafting stuff to sell millions
it would certainly still benefit from being on steam because only a few of these games exist and it would instantly pop up in every >players who played x also enjoy vintage story

Publicity seems to be a massive issue for vintage story. It doesn't get played much on youtube, nobody streams it, and it doesn't really get mentioned online. Apart from getting a frickton of publicity, getting the game on steam should also start a fire under the devs ass so he starts pumping out updates faster.
Dev has said there are plans to put the game on Steam eventually, but with the glacial speed of development that probably won't happen in a reasonable amount of time. At least he does guaranteed refunds no matter what I guess.

Oh hey what's up man.
I don't like it. They need to revamp this incredibly tedious system or just put ores in caves. Even the mods that show what chunk has ores it's STILL a pain in the ass because you have to randomly dig holes and waste ladders creating a shaft to find Iron.
Every time I've been in a cave where there are decent ore readings in the area I see at least one exposed vein of ore. Making them easier to find would honestly make the game go by too quick. Once you find iron you're basically in the endgame and there isn't really much progression beyond that point.
I agree, better combat and rpg style gear that you can enchant with better dungeon diving. right now its just grinding upon grinding for really nothing
You grind to make it easier to BUILD. It's a sandbox game, getting Iron tools is your primary goal and after thst you can choose to get steel or just stay in the Iron age.
Just building is boring and it's not the only target audience of the game. It's about survival but it's pretty much too easy, it's about fighting monsters but their design and AI are horrible.
Right now I have to agree, the combat is pretty shit and forces you into using a bow + arrows OR a spear for the extended range.
Also why the frick can't I make a steel spear?
Me and my wife love this game
Looking forward to seeing what else they add since right now, you're grinding for metal gear but for like, 1 dungeon
Also, prospecting is kinda poopoo
But the first few days that we played this game was magical
I agree prospecting sucks all types of ass. Looking for ore in general is just annoying, they should just make them appear visible in caves as smaller deposits to make spelunking actually worthwhile because you don't find shit in caves on top of them being very dangerous.
If you use the node search function with the propick on caves walls with decent ore distribution you can find a bunch of ore. Found enough tin doing this to make more bronze than I'd ever need.
The problem with node search is that it's very fricking unreliable. You don't know if the ore is above or below you, on top of the stupid search terms not helping to determine if your close >medium >medium >medium >small
Like what the frick you start digging all over the place and you can find that fricking node.
You dig in a horizontal direction until the reading gets larger. If it gets smaller stop digging that way. Go to the center of the highest readings in the x and z axis and then dig up or down until you find it. Some can be a b***h to find but I don't think I've ever gave up looking for an ore node that wasn't larger than a medium highest reading in the epicenter.

>waste ladders
Use rope ladders. You can pick up the whole ladder from the top piece
You know those mods minecraft has where you just craft shit from menus for hundreds of hours? Like to make an axe you have to go through 50 steps involving picking up grass for the string and have to do a menu action crafting for each individual part of the handle, etc, etc. And then later on you have to assemble fridges to keep your food from spoiling by making each intellectua lpart individually in a 500 step crafting process?
This game is like that. Except it only goes up to like, bronze age. It's quite well made if you like that though. It has one enemy
Real vintage story fans know the game kinda sucks since development is slow as frick and seemingly updates don't fix any of the broken core features like animal husbandry still being a complete joke and a dev who can't even be bothered to read up on how domestication of animals actually works.
Women really seem to love this game. It would make sense because I think the lead dev's wife works on the game to and her influence probably helps with that.
imagine if this came would be called "Survival Quest" instead of "Vintage Story" (lol that name means nothing) and would be on Steam.
it'd probably have 100x more players.
imagine having a complete working game and not putting it on steam lmao
Unfortunately the devs are still morons crying about MUH 30 PERCENT which is actually pretty generous considering the net positives your game gets being hosted on the largest digital game market in the world. I really never understand this constant crying about muh 30 percent cut unless it's from a shitty indie game that flops with like 12+ purchases, but that's not Valves fault your game just sucked shit.
they could also just make it 30% more expensive on steam and people who dont buy on steam get a better price.
also stop calling the dev a moron, cause i know him and he's nice.
>they could also just make it 30% more expensive on steam and people who dont buy on steam get a better price.
Pretty sure steam have a rule that they need to be the lowest price.
You can't put games for $100 on steam, and then $50 at your own site.
Not sure about sales.
Precisely to prevent devs from offloading the 30% steam tax to customers. If Steam has to be the cheaper option (or the same price) there's no way for the dev to avoid that 30% fee. I think it only applies to keys tho, like you can't sell Steam keys cheaper than in-Steam purchases on your own website.
They obviously want to prevent the exact situation where you sell a steam key for 8 dollars on your website and 10 on steam. That way steam would have all the hosting and organizatoral costs while you deny them their cut by making incentive to buy keys away from steam

he might be nice but he definitely is a major moron for having the steam fee hangup. 30% sales cut to reach a 10000x bigger market is well worth it. Ask any indie dev if they regret putting their game on steam. Its straight up this weird brand of stubborn low IQ autism to not do it
It's cool, runs markedly worse than Minecraft though, which is a bit of a shame. Minecraft I can play on my laptop while I'm traveling, can't really do that and have a good experience with VS until I upgrade my laptop.
its pretty good. prospecting is god AWFUL though; seriously, frick every game that tries to make me play fricking minesweeper with a tool that has durability. just get a mod to detect ores easier and its pretty kino.
getting steel is a big achievement too. looking forward to titanium shenanigans
It's certified SLOP until they fix the combat.
Black person how the frick is it slop? It has more actual useful features than Minecraft.
Yet fricking minecraft has better combat, and that's a tragedy for a game like this. I literally didn't even want to engage in it whereas in minecraft I kill everything that moves. No, i actually think not putting in the game in Steam yet is a smart move, the game in this dry state will lose all the initial steam exposure fast
The early access feature exists for that exact purpose, although I dont know if the devs consider it that
Being on Steam doesn't mean exclusivity. They can sell it off their own website and on Steam at the same time.
I agree, better combat and rpg style gear that you can enchant with better dungeon diving. right now its just grinding upon grinding for really nothing

There's better survival mechanics in it than Minecraft thoughever.
Right now I have to agree, the combat is pretty shit and forces you into using a bow + arrows OR a spear for the extended range.

skill issue
It's worse terrafirmacraft unfortunately
Me and my wife love this game

Gotta say though, learning that those little bits of ore on the surface means there's ore under it was very helpful
If you use the node search function with the propick on caves walls with decent ore distribution you can find a bunch of ore. Found enough tin doing this to make more bronze than I'd ever need.
Yeah, even with the node search, I didn't like it

What mods do you run?
For me it's Feverstone Wilds.
Damn, I would risk it all for that faun
Is there any millennial like mods? That remains my favorite mod for any game
Yes
The only thing i want it littlemaidmod
All of them.
i really enjoy chiseling furniture/decorations

It's more for people who love autistic survival sims. It's really great for that though
No redstone? No buy.
There's Jonas devices and temporal gears that act as redstone.
It's a standalone Terrafirmacraft.
If tedious unga bunga caveman shit is what you want, then yes.
Rate my cabin Ganker
Nice gaff, cut back on the trophies though
but It's suppose to be a hunters cabin...
Just personal preference, you do what you will.
It was a simple cabin that I built at the start of my game. I started working on my actual house in the background.
Very cozy. I love it.
I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to make an axe and just ended up returning it
Post faun
VGH sometimes i just like to explore to get some pretty screenshots
