Unfortunately for you, most of LoM's gameplay designs ended up that way thanks to Kawazu (SaGa guy) being its producer - I mean, LoM shares a lot of similiarities with Saga games. And I'm pretty sure Kawazu isn't in development team this time.
Kawazu is the only based game designer at SE that knows what an actual RPG is supposed to be.

Not really surprising. Seiken 2 and 3 had multiplayer (thought 3 lost it with the remake) but 1 and 4 were single player.
didn't have Dawn of Mana have an arena multiplayer option? Also Sword of Mana, the remake of 1, had on friend share option which was kinda nice

That's not how Arena worked, there was no multiplayer but you could bring your pets along for Arena Bouts.
