It's currently better to buy an item box and sell the trash, but there are 3 bins immediately to the right of the garage door.
Broom pushes loose physics objects around, bucket can be filled with water at the pool/river and you can use a wet sponge or mop to wipe grime off of walls and floors

step 1: buy and item box from the store
step 2: buy as many garbage bags as you can
step 3: with a garbage bag in your hand right click on the garbage. you need 1 bag per pile
step 4: put all the full garbage bags in the item box
step 5: put the item box on the drone platform and hit the call drone button
step 6: profit
The broom is for pushing junk props around, the mop is what you're looking for to clean walls. To use the mop's bucket, dunk it in your government mandaded minecraft 2x2 of water to refill it.
To get rid of trash, first put it in a trash bag by pressing right mouse with a garbage bag in your hand. If you don't want to sell it (for some reason), you can then put it in a recycling bin, 3 of which are located to the right of the garage. If you DO want to sell one, refer to

This shit is obnoxious as hell. My second day I figured I'd beeline for the bot after three servers went down when I was out fixing one. So I get it, turn the fricker on, and sicced it on the servers and it just fricked off out the front door, never to be seen again with no servers repaired in the process. A transformer blew on day 5, so I had to spend all damn day driving to the ass end of nowhere to unmapped locations to push buttons and fix it. It's fricking tedious.

When he does allow something to slip through, he still makes sure to censor it to all hell, so overall he's pretty based.

How the frick do you trigger encounters? I'm 11 days in and I've seen nothing, even gone to some of the flashing dots on the radar, and didn't find squat. Is there something I need to do?
I've found that events tend to happen earlier the sooner you can refine level three signals. Might be a coincidence, though. I did notice too that setting the game to Hard triggered less events as well, probably due to the faster passage of time not being completely tuned and accounted for since it's a WIP.
10 days is where I'd say things roughly "start", I can't remember when the picnic disappears or even appears, but it sorta feels like every 10 days things get more intense for lack of a better word.
I'm not looking forward to playing through again after doing 31 days two major updates ago and then 16 the one before the trash update.

On the day 2(or 3) some air sirens went on and when I went outside to look for something I started dropping gibs while camera was panning to the forest and there was a black censored square somewhere, I stood like that for 15 secs and got gibbed and bam Game Over. Wtf was that?
The forest is dead, my download speed is in shambles, the transformers are about to give out, and I failed the report, but at least I got a cheevo that does nothing to commemorate the occasion.
I hope the game will continue to add stuff like interesting channels, rather than get a series of updates with ebin events for Joel to trigger and autsitically screech at.
Seeing how far the game came from its first version its really coming together as a real game now and its got so much potential. Nose has a great sense for how you can frick with players. I just hope it wont all be so... overt I guess?

Was literally typing out a similar post. Anyway:
More "smaller" events. Like the stuff that happens with the trees and door that spawns outside. Small things like that that are meant to intentionally unsettle the player's preconceived notions and make them question if what they just saw or heard was real, and if it was, was it a bug or a feature. A couple hundred of these micro-events would go a long way to increase tension in the player and make them uncomfortable and feel unsafe.
I think hes done most of the easy tricks in that regard already, triggering the door lock's sfx, footsteps around the base etc. But im sure its possible to think of more stuff like that.
One aspect Ive liked about VoTV is that it isnt aliens per se that are spooky and messing with you, theres the potential for supernatural occurances in general and itd be hard to tell the apart from alien frickery.
Ive thought about trying to use local folklore like the wendigo already in the game (which is an american thing, not swiss) but I think most of it wouldnt lend itself well to a game like this. a lot of that stuff is if you do or see X you will mysteriously die soon after.
I always thought signal sim was genius for making you see through the window over the edge of your console at all times, I think you could probably do a lot with that.

This is especially not ideal considering VotV's gameplay loop in particular.
Maybe we can be more vague and subtle in the beginning post(s) to encourage anons who come across these threads to just try the (FREE) game and report back if they have any questions. As an example, I always thought it was interesting how everyone was "in" on keeping the big spoiler quests in Warframe unspoiled out of respect for new players; being intentionally vague about it, not using certain gameplay elements around new players, etc.

What does copying do to a file?
I noticed the copy has an asterisk and shows yellow on a drive.
I have no processor power but nabbed a signal from a very obvious [object] and want to process it further later.
Save the signal for later. The copying function is to process the signal when you have the correct processing power to do so, since you cannot sell drives that have copied data (yellow light).
However, you can sell an upgraded version of a copied signal, but only once.
Wait, so I can sell two versions of the same signal?
The original and a single upgraded copy (no matter what level)?
You can upgrade a saved signal, but then that one won't be sellable again.
For example, if you sold a level 0 signal, copied it, upgraded it to level 1, sold that, and then repeated the process to get another fresh upgraded copy, you would make money off the first version, but not the second.
you can copy a signal 3 times, and upgrade each copy to a further level than the last, and sell them along with the original. but you can only do that once per lvl 0 signal.
Is it more worthwhile to keep the original of an obvious anomaly to sell the processed version when I can, or is saving just so you don't need to miss out?
What if i copy a lvl 0 signal i already processed and sold, then process it again, then send it again because the light is now green?
First a couple of notes. Game is WIP, so this can change, bear in mind:

If you want the most money, I recommend you DON'T get it at first since you can send off drives of each level; level 0, level 1, level 2, and level 3. You can manually set the module to which level you want it to process to, but it's best to just not have it at all if your focus is getting the most money.
>At max upgrades for everything, it will always take longer to process a single signal from level 0 to level 3 than it will to just download a new signal. YMMV depending on your current upgrades, of course.

>Download signal
>Save signal to computer (easy to forget, best to get in the habit early)
>Listen to signal
>Save signal to drive

>While that drive is being processed, find a new signal
>Begin downloading it
> A) When the signal is done processing, bring it over to the Playing station and save it to the computer
> B) Listen to it too if you like

> D) Set that drive aside for sending off to Dr. Bao
> E) Get a new drive and copy the signal you just saved
> F) Process that signal as well
>Repeat steps A through F until you have a level 3 signal, or whatever you computer level currently allows

In between all of this, you can download multiple signals and build a backlog. This is fine in the beginning, but I find it to be easier to just let the downloaded signal wait on the Downloading station after a certain point.

So I just burned through all my MREs trying to survive Bad Sun day and wasted them. Nice. Wish the game told you about this shit.

They even give you ~15 trash bags for free, under the desk with the batteries on it.
The thing that made me quit before was the core loop being incompatible with the majority of the content in the actual game. Focusing on processing signals means you miss out on literally everything. You can't go check things out in the woods because you need to focus on processing signals. On top of that, you need a map. And the map takes a few days to earn and you're foregoing upgrades. And if you're foregoing the upgrades for other shit, everything takes longer. So you need to adhere to the loop. But then you miss everything happening outside. And this is just another layer on that cake. More busywork. More to worry about. Less fluidity to the flow that further obstructs the exploration and intrigue side of the game. The few times spooky shit happened on my last attempt to play through, I totally missed it because of the task-oriented tunnel vision required to keep the flow moving.

If you go out, that costs resources that cost credits, and now it's a juggling act to manage those basic resources.

you can control the ATV pretty well just by using the breaks whenever you feel like you're going to veer off.
You can disable the penalties from the daily mission if that's what you're bothered about.

This is not how it works for such countries tho. Patreon doesn't deal with their taxes. You get full money. It's your choice to pay or not pay taxes. You need to do it manually. Generally majority of freelancers didn't pay any taxes at all up until now (4% if under $25k). Banks don't really care about "small money". Tax rates for self-employed are the lowest one and you don't pay for pension unless you want it. Just saying.

There is an in-game 3D printer. If you put a .obj 3D model and a .png texture of the same name into "VotVAssetsmeshesprinter", you can print it. The in-game help menu has more info on that.

You experience a bunch of the Ariral's property in the game, but the only physical contact is you getting smacked halfway to albequerque by an invisible one.
The titty cats are arirals, one of the creator's pet races. They are, very bluntly, mary sues that stand in as high tech alien pranksters. In the game their presence is mostly felt through references and harassing the player. Outside of the game, you have standard Discord furry coomer crap that creeps in from time to time. There are a few entries for them on R34 that give a hint as to how that goes.
Nose is actually pretty modest with the NSFW part of them, keeping it entirely contained to the designated channels. I dare not enter or even dignify the roleplay channel, so I have it hidden.

The sun doesn't actually hurt you, because there's no health mechanic (unless the experimental option is enabled), so all that happens is that you drop some flesh on the ground which actually helps a lot because eating those gives lots of food/sleep.

is correct, it's just that the effect of taking damage is a vignetting around the edges of the screen. Most players don't typically sustain enough damage quickly enough to tell when it's happening until it gets REAL bad. Try setting yourself on fire for a while and use a medkit, you'll notice the difference afterwards.

I downloaded it yesterday and played for a bit, am I supposed to start with the story mode? I tried two times so far and each time sirens start blaring in the morning on day two, the sun gets censored and I get killed if I go outside so i can't do the daily task because it needs the hashcodes
I also cannot enter the menu and autosave stops working, can't tell if something is fricked or if I am moronic, also I can't check the discord because its asking me for a phone number and I ain't gonna give it to them
"Bad Sun" event happens on the 24th of the month IRL, and very rarely randomly. You can't pause while certain events are happening. Try setting the date on your IRL computer to a different date. Good luck!

It can, but you can reset certain parameters when you load a save to make it more compatible with a new update. More of a mitigating measure than something bulletproof. Joel's save, for example, is all fricked up because it came from a much older version than what he's on now. It's still COMPATIBLE, but it's not ideal and he won't ever witness some events that had a chance of happening in the days he's already passed.
Also, be sure to stuff all of the items you care about in the mailbox outside next to the entrance; it'll preserve them through updates in the very likely chance you have to make your save work with a new version by resetting "Events and Objects."

It can if you don't reset objects and events. If you want to save anything from a previous update, putting any props you think are important inside the mailbox at the front door will transfer them to the next update safely.

Kerfus pathfinding is completely fricked. Gets stuck on the tiniest thing, even on the base of a dish. RIP only thing that made me play the game to avoid babysitting the stupid dishes.
For me, he only get's stuck near the base, so when that happens, I just go outside and throw him across the river. Everywhere else he just unstucks himself eventually.
That's what I saw in previous versions, but now it's stuck on the corner of the concrete base of a satellite dish. Something which never happened before. It got stuck 10 meters from base on a big rock with nothing around it, so I'm not even going to bother freeing that thing with how useless it is now. 500 points wasted.

The green bins are simple containers for stuff. If you want to ride the recycling train and get money, you need to buy an item container box and garbage bags. Fill the bags, put them in the container box and place it on the landing area for the drone, then call the drone from the box on the wall.
Noticed that as well, but it also seems to get worse the longer you play. Restarting somehow makes it not completely shit the bed.

Recycling bins just vaporize stuff. To recycle you slap shit on the workbench and use the top of the bench. If you have enough shit some of it will merge into scrap item you can put into item box and send off with drone. Just drop all your shit on the bench, its ok to mix the types. It only works for the individual shit items, for shit heaps you use trashbags already explained

Had a similar problem before. Sent in 4 lvl 0 drives and got a mail saying it was empty. Still got 20 bucks for the drives, I guess.
I think they say this when the signal you scan is of empty space, or with level 0 drives because the sound is nothing but white noise.

Blue is just sitting at the bottom of the river near one of the bridges in the west. Not too hard to find imo.
Green is the bullshit one of the three normal plushies since you have to run from the hole in the fence by Yankee all the way around past the perimeter entrance and up a mountain to find it.
Rozital Pink Argemia is pretty easy to get but requires buying a drone and flying at a very specific set of coordinates to nudge it into existence.
Nuclear Argemia, however, is fricking agonizing since it got moved all the way to the very edge of the map and is placed on a random cube in the sky that you need to glitch hover to. For comparison, it used to be buried on a hill somewhere and all you had to do was dig at a very specific spot.

The daily usually wants you to go to the satellite server itself, get the daily hash from it, write it down and attach it to a box you send in.
there should be a button on the transformers and a red light attached to which one is borked at the terminal thing outside of your base
there is also a random event that just turns off your power without any transformers turning off, you just have to flip all the switches back on inside
Found the actual generator/transformer by following the powerlines. I was looking at the thing right outside the base and was wondering why I couldn't do anything with it. Bad timing for a blackout, as it was midnight.
I know about the event, but this time I simply ran out of cycles on the transformers.
You go to the dish and enter sv.hash into the terminal, then copy that down on a notepad with the proper format.
Reminder for new players you can see the terminal history even on other ones, like back at base.
So IF you send the hashcodes but get told you missed one (probably due to a typo), you might still be able to see the hashcodes printed out at base and still send them away in time. Better than zooming back to the satellites.

It's a bug when you send in L0 signals. Ignore it.
Has anyone figured out what the occasional light flickering is supposed to be? An indicator of the transformers not working perfectly? A simple atmosphere design choice? A bug? Something actually gameplay relevant?
