If you really want to do a full restart you can avoid the spicy stairs at 255 and go through white void then do 66 on the corpse and full reset

I think the main drawback of infinite locusts is just that you are less flexible with UI manipulation.
Once you are slightly more versed on the game, keeping up locusts is trivially easy anyways

It's just weird. The game makes it clear what's going to happen if you fail. And even when it does happen you can't be too mad about it because the game is short; even if you suck at it, it's a few hours of playtime at worst to get another shot, and the only 'reward' you're missing out on by not doing it is yet another replay of the entire game for the actual credits roll.
People are conditioned to think their progress with the game is tied to their save file, if they continue to play after that they realize they actually improved at the game and progress hasn't been lost and the conditioning is broken, and it wouldn't really work if the game didn't have a save at all like most shmups in the first place.
That's what makes ZR such I good introduction to the genre, I think.

I skipped around 50 or 60 floors with a mix of locust idols sacrifices and the very few shortcuts I knew of, but besides that the only rooms I've really suffered into were the ones with the asymmetrical dopplegangers, frick those rooms
If it can be of consolation, I had no idea there were items with extra abilities for my first 5 playthroughs, I can basically speedrun the normal mode run in 30 minutes now
I think it's intended that people die on NG+ and decline the fruit cause they realize there's different endings if you're voided or not. So they start a new run and then realize you can do NG+ with items

The square in the middle fits perfectly in a 6x6 room. But I guess the shape is too simple and someone could try to use it as their own brand in the very first hour after the game was released.

Besides all the mystery, I think it's pretty incredible just how many puzzle they get to fit with so limited mechanics and little space, I think it's really fantastic. Are the occasional "back to floor 1" traps in case you didn't realize the stairs were right below the 4 eyed dude's justified? It doesn't happen often, but I can see someone drop the game because of them
Warned you about the spicy stairs bro. But yeah it caught me off guard TWICE. The second time I held ESC before it fully went through though so there's some ways to avoid it
The best one is that suspiciously simple "puzzle" where you have to just push some items onto three buttons across the level. Except if you do it the painfully obvious way, you personally build yourself a spicy stair and push a dragon statue into an immovable corner so you have to either meme yourself or die.

get to Gor without the sword and use the rod infront of her. Talk to her until you exhaust her dialogue then go back and get the sword and go back to Gor, talk to the NPC there and then go down a hole and enter stinky hole

Cif's brand is more or less to give you a clue that you need to break the seals of the 3 traitorous lords. Mon's is broken so there's only Eus and Gor left. You can easily break Gor's so the hard one is Eus, think about which domain is Eus and figure out the brand for that Lord and it should give you a hint on how to break Eus' seal

Tail is what remains of Eus after Eus was defeated. Eus' brand is only used to learn how to remove the statue in Tail's room. FIguring out Cif's brand is unrelated. For that one you just need to really pay attention as you go through Cif's domain

I've been stuck on this floor for a good while now and I don't see how I'm supposed to solve it. Moving the button and stairs closer seems sensible but no matter what I'm always one tile short of being able to. I could steal some tiles from the left side but I can't think of a way that would allow me to.
That won't work without items you die if you step on the sun tiles a second time, you can pick up the one at the intersection but there's no place to put it without getting a shadow clone and at that point you're unable to turn around
I just wish this damn thing had a post-post-post-endgame level select so I could actually try out shit instead of having to guesstimate from pictures and vague memory. I did go through NG+ itemless and do remember that room, but the solution escapes me.

It's the run with Lillie since you directly get to it after finishing Gray's unvoided run and it's significantly more difficult. Did you not go through that?
I have that from finishing an unvoided Gray run very early, but I went back to Gray to finish as much of her story as possible. It's silly to call something like that "NG+" in a game where you repeatedly loop through with multiple endings.
NG+ is lilith, NG++ is Cif. you're past both of those if you've done DIS

Lev having a player UI and that one room with the staircase the cif and lev encounter and cif fights happen on still bug me.

after you finish gray's run with items, if you die and refuse the fruit (which will reset the run) will unlock the brand for the items, so you can put their brands at the start to the your lillie run with said items
I know about it but one "joke ending" involve chaining two specific runs together. The game also remembers if you took items in a previous run without resetting by death in between. I was just asking if anyone tried to chain all three character runs in a row.
No. the game does a good job guiding you towards what your next goal is. The only real part is after NG++ where you have to have your own incentive to figure out all of the brands, and once you figure them all out the game guides you through the rest. The only stuff I ever asked for help on was actual level puzzles
I like how I did it by using the clone tile at the start and not the one way up top. It's nice that for how hard this one is there are multiple solutions
This is the best thing about this game. Almost all puzzles have multiple solutions, you do not have to autistically follow the same exact moves every time because there is only one solution like in other puzzle games. The freedom of execution is amazing here.

this one took me a while too. You want to be in the spot where the first statue is to control the golem some, you want to make him first pass through the center tile and then the upper tiles to get to the second statue

What you missed is restarting NG+ with items.
Interacting with chest will always leave you facing down, even without actually moving down.
I have no idea how to do that kek, this game is a mystery and I've been avoiding any information like the plague.

Besides all the mystery, I think it's pretty incredible just how many puzzle they get to fit with so limited mechanics and little space, I think it's really fantastic.
Are the occasional "back to floor 1" traps in case you didn't realize the stairs were right below the 4 eyed dude's justified? It doesn't happen often, but I can see someone drop the game because of them
that trap is pretty discouraging, but honestly it's not even that big of a deal considering the other ways in which the game is pretty forgiving.
They're great and if all else fails, you can just hold escape and quit the game before the cutscene concludes.

The best one is that suspiciously simple "puzzle" where you have to just push some items onto three buttons across the level. Except if you do it the painfully obvious way, you personally build yourself a spicy stair and push a dragon statue into an immovable corner so you have to either meme yourself or die.
My favorite is the spicy staircase after the dev room which is intentional but if you avoid it you get to go to my wife's big titty puzzle room

I'm not sure, I don't have my old file I did it in on-hand, but here's a super important tip that may make things easier. Rooms with a tail are holes, NOT tiles.
1. they're connected to each other as you've probably done
2. they connect to the rest of the mural by their corners

Cif's brand is more or less to give you a clue that you need to break the seals of the 3 traitorous lords. Mon's is broken so there's only Eus and Gor left. You can easily break Gor's so the hard one is Eus, think about which domain is Eus and figure out the brand for that Lord and it should give you a hint on how to break Eus' seal

There is something else you can do after banging the statue.

She does make your hp 23. 23 is only relevant for getting to Tail and the Cif Brand I think.

Tail is what remains of Eus after Eus was defeated. Eus' brand is only used to learn how to remove the statue in Tail's room. FIguring out Cif's brand is unrelated. For that one you just need to really pay attention as you go through Cif's domain

I've been stuck on this floor for a good while now and I don't see how I'm supposed to solve it. Moving the button and stairs closer seems sensible but no matter what I'm always one tile short of being able to. I could steal some tiles from the left side but I can't think of a way that would allow me to.
I'm not smart enough for these, apparently it's possible but I think you'd be better off just restarting with items

That won't work without items you die if you step on the sun tiles a second time, you can pick up the one at the intersection but there's no place to put it without getting a shadow clone and at that point you're unable to turn around
I just wish this damn thing had a post-post-post-endgame level select so I could actually try out shit instead of having to guesstimate from pictures and vague memory. I did go through NG+ itemless and do remember that room, but the solution escapes me.

It's the run with Lillie since you directly get to it after finishing Gray's unvoided run and it's significantly more difficult. Did you not go through that?
I have that from finishing an unvoided Gray run very early, but I went back to Gray to finish as much of her story as possible. It's silly to call something like that "NG+" in a game where you repeatedly loop through with multiple endings.
We use those terms to avoid spoilers.
NG is Gray, NG+ is lillie, NG++ is Cif
NG+ is lilith, NG++ is Cif. you're past both of those if you've done DIS
I can't prove it's canon but it has a happier end for Grey if you do DIS with her. There should be a timeline where you can stop Lev without having to kill Bee and Cif AND Grey gets to stop having a hard life

Dunno about all 3. Items gray takes aren't available as Lillie. And Lillie has to kill tail and Gor for the Cif 000 ending. Maybe somebody could try a no items Gray into lillie full clear to Cif 000 and see if something changes.

Lev having a player UI and that one room with the staircase the cif and lev encounter and cif fights happen on still bug me.
I remember people trying to hack Lev in as a playable character and it crashed the game (a real game maker crash, not the fake in-game ones). Unless it got updated since, I don't think there is anything else.
after you finish gray's run with items, if you die and refuse the fruit (which will reset the run) will unlock the brand for the items, so you can put their brands at the start to the your lillie run with said items
I know about it but one "joke ending" involve chaining two specific runs together. The game also remembers if you took items in a previous run without resetting by death in between. I was just asking if anyone tried to chain all three character runs in a row.

No. the game does a good job guiding you towards what your next goal is. The only real part is after NG++ where you have to have your own incentive to figure out all of the brands, and once you figure them all out the game guides you through the rest. The only stuff I ever asked for help on was actual level puzzles

This is the best thing about this game. Almost all puzzles have multiple solutions, you do not have to autistically follow the same exact moves every time because there is only one solution like in other puzzle games. The freedom of execution is amazing here.

this one took me a while too. You want to be in the spot where the first statue is to control the golem some, you want to make him first pass through the center tile and then the upper tiles to get to the second statue
yeah i figured doing some remote control stuff like that would be the answer, i've just been struggling to get into that spot to move him around safely without him falling into a pit or killing me or himself for like half an hour. i think it's time to take a break anyway.
There were 2 hints that really helped get it rolling for me
1. that you need to take him through the middle and you need to be in the first statues spot
2. Seeing the end state (I don't have a SS of it though but 4 of those sun tiles are still there but they have all be activated)
