I'm not even going to get into how unbelievably overrated BG3 ended up being and how simply making your interactivity real time like TOTK, somehow makes it feel less contextual and shallow.
But did Lies of P really just fly by people's radar that hard? I just watched a Joshep Anderson video where he called it GOTY and gave some pretty compelling reasons why it's not just another soulslike and is it's own thing that goes above and beyond and...honestly it sounded pretty compelling, like just straight up good gameplay. Which is more than I can say for like half of this list (BG3, Spider-Man 2, TOTK and maaaaaybe Mario Wonder)
Did Lies of P just really leave no impression on anybody? I saw that IGN gave it an 8, but they're moronic. But even on Ganker I've seen more people try to replace AC6 and HiFi Rush with Spider-Man 2 than Lies of P.

The thing with Lies of P, is that it shines as a GOTY only for people that can actually see the game for what it really is: an absolute fricking masterpiece.
But to get to that point, you need to git gud like never before. It is my personal GOTY, but there was never any chance of it actually winning GOTY. Most people that actually thinks that Alan Wake, Spiderman, Mario Wonder or Zelda actually deserves GOTY would never be able to get past the first few bosses in LoP before giving up.
Its a masterpiece, just not one that is accessible for everyone and that's the beauty of it

that's definitely not the problem. watched the Joseph Anderson video and he goes on a whole long point about how the dynamic difficulty is very good and can make the game feel easy and hard depending on what style you choose to alternate between. blocking or dashing.
personally, a lot of the appeal of souls is lost on me without the level design, but hey, I happened to like Sekiro. So while I don't think Lies of P will ever rank above DS1 or Bloodborne for me. I have a feeling it'll offer something of its own that can be comfortably put right below those. Maybe it'll end up being what so many claimed dark souls 3 was. Maybe it'll solve the problem of "Just memorize and spam roll because that's all the game can compel you to do" that DS3 and Elden Ring had and DS1 already solved.
Maybe it'll make encounters feel puzzlelike and tactical again like DS1.
I just wish the game was piratable, I really can't afford to pay money for shit right now. Hopefully the game goes on sale soon.
