I think some super dumbed down "RTS" with no base building and using the Age of Sigmar setting released recently. I couldn't even give enough of a frick to try the demo.
maybe if it wasn't an anemic framework compared to the first game that spent more post launch time tweaking the barebones multiplayer chasing the esports dragon instead of finishing campaigns for the rest of the factions or at least making a functional skirmish career mode the first game had so you could play with the other factions in some half meaningful way it would have sold better
I like AoS. Warhammer Fantasy used to be (and probably still is) my fav fantasy setting. And it's not like it's gone. You can still play tabletop, then there's Vermintide 2 and Total War games, novels are still available.
AoS had a rocky start with a dogshit 1st edition, but the 2nd one turned things around and it became really popular. It's a high fantasy setting that's a mix of Planescape and Warhammer possibly with some MtG. I love the creative freedom. In Warhammer Fantasy you knew what will eventually come out, 3 kinds of elves, 2 kinds of undead, 2 kinds of humans, dwarves, ogres, some Chaos stuff. AoS is much more open and not constrained.

Its openness is honestly its greatest weakness since there’s no sense of scale for anything. Not one AoS player is able to point anywhere on a map to link where different factions are from. It has, and that's part of what makes it stand out. In previous books, Cain not knowing what the frick it was tended to get mentioned, and ultimately the character does end up having a gender or has a minimal part in the story, which makes it not relevant when he can't figure it out.

I dont remember a ton of AoS skaven lore. Though i know the HRat ate all the Skaven leaders and promotef Thanquol. I think Craventail is confirmed to be alive too. But besides that i dont remember any rats. Their biggest impact has probably been pissing off Nagash and accidentially revealed the deep sea elves to the world

I like AoS. Warhammer Fantasy used to be (and probably still is) my fav fantasy setting. And it's not like it's gone. You can still play tabletop, then there's Vermintide 2 and Total War games, novels are still available.
AoS had a rocky start with a dogshit 1st edition, but the 2nd one turned things around and it became really popular. It's a high fantasy setting that's a mix of Planescape and Warhammer possibly with some MtG. I love the creative freedom. In Warhammer Fantasy you knew what will eventually come out, 3 kinds of elves, 2 kinds of undead, 2 kinds of humans, dwarves, ogres, some Chaos stuff. AoS is much more open and not constrained.

Its openness is honestly its greatest weakness since there’s no sense of scale for anything. Not one AoS player is able to point anywhere on a map to link where different factions are from. It’s all a giant soupy mess with no discernible identity beyond mish mash fantasy creatures fighting for some reason. At least end times had a fricking narrative through line despite its horrible execution.
