I failed, I simply was born into nothing, into a nothing family, if I had a fancy name like other devs, other "indie" devs, If I was rich and connected like them I could deliver my game, it'd be kino, revitalize the genre, but not really.
I lack the journalist connections, I lack the industry connections, I lack the funding.

I know about cris, sadly. I am not him, I am worse.

      >if I had a fancy name like other devs, other "indie" devs,
they didn't get a fancy name from nothing. they got a fancy name after releasing a good game.

      Bullshit, Toby Fox was nepotism.
      Kurvitz was nepotism too.

there's a lot of indie devs who make indie games as their primary occupation in life. you just don't know about them because they are not really popular, as well as their games, they don't earn much money - just enough to sustain them. If you really wanted to just make games you would, but I think the real thing you are craving is fame and money. You don't want to make games, you want to be famous super-successful one in a million game dev with amount of twitter subs high enough to worship your ego

If you aren't cranking out 4 hours a day even with a full-time job you were never going to make it anyway. Gamedev takes years of persistent, relentless dedication and if you haven't even started you don't have what it takes.

I think you're a weak spirit and an 'ideas guy' like everyone else. Have a story idea? Start actually doing story writing, draft out characters and their arcs, get some free screenwriting software or just use a pen and paper. Write some actual dialog and scenes. Same goes for visual art, even if you're shit, at least get the ideas out on paper.

Horseshit. Everyone feels like that when they start trying to learn programming, it's abstract and unintuitive by nature. You just need to beat your head against the wall until it finally sticks.

Dumber people than you are making games. A lot of them manage by simply googling every single step because they can't figure shit out on their own, and you can do the same if it comes to it. Stop being fricking lazy.

Me neither. Either find a coder friend or learn specified game making software that makes coding easy, Hotline Miami was made in Game Maker with very minimal coding required.

I don't know what Engine to use, I was using Unity but this code stuff is stupid.

Despite what the autists tell you, you really don't have to be good at coding. RPGmaker can be used by literal children, and it brought us games like Yume Nikki and LISA.

RPGMaker is not exactly what I want to do.

I just tried making Pong all day and it didn't work. I can't do this.

            >I just tried making Pong all day
Oh damn, a whole ass fricking DAY? You're right, it's all over, the dream is dead.

I didn't feel like I understood a single thing I was learning for like the first six weeks of learning to code, frickface. It's just not the sort of thing that makes sense at face value. It's extremely abstract and every far removed from anything our brains evolved to do, so you just have to fake it until you make it.

Engine doesn't matter a whole lot. Unity, Godot and UE are all fine. Just fricking pick one and keep trying. I promise it is achievable for you if you stop being a pussy.

                it is if you try
I could put together pong in under an hr without any thought
but people post models they made, rigged, textures, retopped, and ported into their game and say it took them all day
I seethe so much when they can just do it in a day, or even a few days, its so much work to me
but if you keep at it, you get quicker, just like I have no problem coding shit

                >How long do I need to wait and do it before I can do something?
To make something you could put on itch and get a few donations with the downloads? Assuming you're within one standard deviation of the mean IQ, roughly 2-4 months. If you aren't willing to put that time in, you are going to get fricking nowhere in life. I genuinely want you to succeed but if you're too lazy for even that, I'll stop giving a frick.

I've heard Gamemaker is better than Unity. Is that true?

                every tool has its place
gamemaker has a lot of pros and a lot of cons
                but its far simpler

if you want something really simple, that gamemaker can easily do, no reason to not use it
but if you want something more complicated then its going to be a struggle
it depends on exactly what you are looking to make

That is not something you should care about. It's the sort of thing people who get nowhere get hung up on when it will have zero impact on their final product (which they will never produce because they worry about dumb shit like that). Just pick an engine and stick with it.

coding is the easiest part and requires the least amount of knowledge or time to pick up
the only exception is if you are coding very new technical games that rely on this new interesting mechanics, but they are only made by people who are into coding and are the exact opposite route of you

My guy, that is the easiest part to learn. As a drawgay that's studying CS, you're a few YouTube tutorials and small projects from knowing all you need to.
Now, if you can't create assets for the game you might as well give up.

Then find a way to earn lots of money, don't waste it on vidya, porn or whatever and when you have enough, find talent that'll make your game. Of course this is a lot easier said than done and there's many more steps than what I said, but it's probably not impossible to achieve what you want.
