It's not pseud, it's just meant for younger people. People over 20+ weren't the target audience and weren't meant to find the story particularly "deep" or fascinating.
The game story is basically a melodrama, it's meant to evoke emotion.

After barely saving those three and after all the pain that was this story, I can't being myself to repeat that. That's the only game I can't replay, for emotional reasons.
It's kind od a litmus test, you can choose not to sacrifice your save.
The idea is if you're willing to do it to help someone else, knowing you will get nothing in return. You can very well choose not to.

Don't bother, NieR Automata has become a culture war hill to die on because it has a sexy woman and also has enough artsy game cred due to being made by Yoko Taro.
For the record, the best thing about the game is 2B's ass. It's great and anyone who has a problem about it can stay seething. The music is also mostly good along with the atmosphere in most areas.
The gameplay is mediocre, the story is bad, the melodrama is forced and the game has a lot of padding. How many sidequests in the game are variations of 'I need 3 things; one in the desert, one in the forest, one in the amusement park"? There are tons of stories that add depth when retold from another character's perspective, but you're lying to yourself if you think the second route was necessary, it didn't take full advantage of the viewpoint shift. But hey there are *some* interesting themes and existentialism so it's deep like Evangelion guys!!!111!!111
NieR Automata is to Ganker pseuds what Bioshock Infinite was in 2013 to Journalist/Reddit pseuds. But at least it's a 6/10 game while B:I was a genuine 2/10.
