Hearthstone isn't pay to win at all. Several 60%+ winrate top meta decks right now are 1000 - 2000 dust (easy to get), when other decks might cost 20,000. There's no resources that can't be acquired through in-game playing, and it doesn't require a ton of grinding, it more rewards consistently logging in for quests. They could totally frick it up, but they don't have a history of that problem.
Tried it, seems ok so far. Dunno how p2w it's gonna get, but knowing ActiBlizzard...

PVP is p2w since you'll quickly face opponents who have higher level minis. It might get better with full release and more players if they do level based MM.
Doing the PVE content should be viable as f2p. You will hit walls where you need to grind experience. Main limit is gold for buying new minis and upgrading them with duplicate copies. You only get one time gold rewards for doing the campaign missions, and twice a week event with fixed gold rewards. It's not possible to grind for gold at the start, I don't know how much more you'll get from heroic missions and fully cleared dungeons.

This is to be expected from large devs. They want big returns and they expect the players to be idiotic enough to keep paying however much it takes. If a game stops being profitable, they pull the plug. I haven't seen one that would treat the platform as anything more than a dumping ground for digital heroin. If you want more generous f2p, you could try your luck with jpeg collectors made by tiny studios that are effectively a pair of asiatics in a garage.

The grid refreshes once per day, leaders appear along with other minis after you've unlocked them. Dungeon week always matches same leader week in the store, so you should be able to buy one after it refreshes.

to add to this for anyone thinking of just autoing losing battles for a drop of exp, you do need to either summon or spend a certain amount of gold for it to register it isn't just you walking in and losing. 3 units seems to be the safe spot.
You only get a couple of points of exp in that, you'll need to do hundreds of reps just for the equivalent of playing the game for ten minutes and doing your dailies.

You can get minis from dailies, at certain number of sigils and from defeating the final bosses of zones. However, those are choosing one of three random minis, so you should buy a specific one you want on the grid.
harpies are in my 'grid'. do I pay the 90 gold and buy them, or are there other methods to acquire these units later and I should save my gold?
My suggested way to unlock stuff is to get the units you want/need. Upgrade the unit to green rarity for a talent. Get the talent you want. Red Buttons are great for resting the grid for this.
Afterwards buy w/e units to upgrade account xp so tomes are better for unit xp.

Well I finally beat Raene with these shits. meat wagon handled the elf c**ts while the gargoyle distracted them.
I just beat Raene with this, had Cairne and a bat rider handle the soldiers while the spear thrower killed the elves (after they had aggroed onto the tower). Once you can survive that initial onslaught it’s fairly smooth sailing.
Is the Tauren any good? Just showed up in my shop. Also it's insane how hard she was compared to the next zone's guys. What an abruptly random spike in difficulty.

I've been playing since soft launch (just over 2 months ago) and I've spent about $80 on the game.
With that $80 I have 3 decks that are competitive in platinum rank pvp, with one of those decks being 1 level away from max in pvp.
Why is it that spending $80 in a game like hearthstone is expected to be competitive, but $80 in a mobile game is outrageous and you're "whaling" ?

yes. also yes the talents works even at the level one bracket, whip that card out and enjoy your advantage over f2p players like myself.
You can only use 1 talent at a time, and you can't "swap" the slot it's placed in. E.g., if you already filled the first talent slot, and you see another talent buyable somewhere, you actually need to unlock the second talent slot before you can start using it.
Each unlocked talent also increases the mini level.
I actually would have played this if it was like CnC Rivals and thus at least partially resembled the original RTS games but yet another Clash clone is stale as frick.

Gaygorle is op as frick, it won me so many PvP matches already, sometimes dropping just one is enough to kill the enemy player because they are not expecting it to hit that hard.
It's also crazy in PvE, can win a level without any effort.

Flying units can't take chests and meeting stones. Some units like earth elemental only attack towers and bosses.

Copies after the first only give stars for rarity upgrade, no experience. Once you have everything, the new mini experience bonus is useless until they release more units.

Both are good, Baron might be better in pvp. You can use both since you'll need a leader from each faction for heroics.

From my understanding (it's only my second day playing) you should get a full collection first probably be better off buying that shaman and chickens since it looks like you don't have them yet, but again I haven't played much yet.
The spell is garbage, you shouldn't use it, but buy all the green and blue stuff from grid as they give you a lot of points into your collection level.
Cheat death is pretty meh.
Leaders are fairly common in the grid during their week. Buy them if you want; you're likely to get them eventually by collecting sigils.

Picking the wrong talent is honestly the biggest mistake to do in this game, since it's irreversible until you get to the mini rarity to rare. Nothing else matters that much.

Place dudes on red asap to stop the initial push from the tower. Wait for 3 huntresses to start hitting your tower, then place a counter unit on green. If you do it right, none of the red unit(s) will get glaive bounces, and the green unit should be able to deal with the huntresses before your tower dies.

used Meat Wagon on the northern path at match start, it captured the middle tower, and I used the big gold boost from Sneed’s passive to snowball a big group to capture the top tower
then I timed a Warsong Raider to take aggro from Cairne right as the group was reaching him so his AoE didn’t kill them
they got his health so low that a single Blizzard finished him off

I would aim to upgrade the rarity of your loadout to green first so you can get a talent. Afterwards you can work on a full collection.

Buying and upgrading minis will increase your collection level. Leveling minis will also do this, but not as much. Higher collection level makes you get more xp from tomes and quests.
When doing quests, you are given 3 choice of minis. One of them is guaranteed to be the lowest level mini from your current loadout. Another will be a random mini from your current loadout. Last will be a random mini from your entire collection.
if you buy / unlock a unit can it still appear as uncommon/rare/epic in the GRID or only as 1* upgrade opportunities?
You can still get direct upgrades. It will still have the full stars & cost though, I have a ghoul at 2/3 common and there is a 270 gold upgrade to uncommon on the grid.

Most range units can hit air. The ones that can't have a trait called Bombard.
All ranged and flying units can hit air unless they have Bombard or Siege Specialist.

Whitemane is pretty easy at least, but the worgen and Thalnos are a nightmare
thalnos is so brutal. you have to take left lane otherwise they get tons of free gold but you need something to hold off the abom and the right lane push. son of arugal I used the skeleton squad to hold off the push first then make sure to evenly push both lanes. unbound units seem pretty important in just about every fight. I just moved on leaving thalnos for now thats a trouble for another day.

The hand position is the same per individual boss encounter. Take a screenshot of your party, start the fight, pause, screenshot your hand, then play some dudes and look at the 2 that show up in the upcoming slot. This is from chef audrey in lordaeron. It won't be the same order on another boss but that boss encounter will have it's own order.
How else can I level up my guys? The quests are giving them like 17/350 xp.

You will occasionally get quests for 3x or 5x the usual amount of experience, which stay up for 8+ hours. Either grind the normal quests until you hit one of those, or check on the game every few hours to complete a rare quest.
You know, if blizzard quadrupled exp and gold and sold the game for like 5 bucks for pve only, I'm sure it would have done fine...

they're easy win for 90% of pve maps
There are a lot of units that trade into banshees well (any multi unit thing like chicken spam) and likewise the main thing he does on the right side of the field is put out abominations. Use a banshee of your own every time he puts out an abom and you will basically auto push right and then just play a unit that either trades into banshees like a squad or one that out ranges and kills a banshee before it can get off at which point you can use an aoe unit to have perma control of the left lane with a bunch of gold.

Why does nearly every new mobile game launch take so long to start running events? They end up losing a massive chunk of their players before introducing events to "fix" the progression. Every mobile game is obviously tailored to get you addicted and spend money, but this seems like the one thing they always frick up.
Will this game even have traditional events? At Blizzcon they went through the upcoming content and all they talked about was:

I didn't care for the safe pilot at pve, but pvp showed me how broken that mini is. Currently my deck is setup to counter the most common thing I see, which is Rivendare with frost mage skellies. Beats it a majority of the time. Other decks are a more even fight, with only Rend being disadvantageous for me.

The talent sucks, would rather have shield bash. Tried a bunch of options like Abom, Tauren or no tank. Footies ends up being the best option for me. If enemies have no counter they are extremely hard to deal with. Trades favorable with Banshees. And of course pairs well with Tirion AoE heal. Also get option of splitting footies on deploying, letting you push two lands hard.

Probably best ranged mini, tied with Necros? Shuts down lots of threats. Only thing it can't deal with is Aboms. I think all the talents for Huntress are viable. I see lots of stealth on ladder. 6 bounces would probably win footie/huntress mirror match constantly.
>Quilboar w/ Bristleback
Needed a cheap unit with Unbound to control the map with. Other option was Worgen(which counters Huntress nicely). Quilboar has resistant, lets me stall the backline while rest of push cleans up. All the talent options for this mini seem fine.
>Harpies w/ Poison
Hard counters all ground melee. Poison lets me deal with armored units even better. Miner is probably a good talent too.
>Safe Pilot
Haven't got a talent yet, but would take stealth. A second unbound unit means almost always have a unit to grab a gold chest asap. I've seen this unit used so frequently, contender for best unit in the game. Instant reinforcements is strong. Instant reinforcements that comes with a spell is stronger 🙂

Answers big pushes on towers. The Freeze makes melee units stop fighting back. Also the freeze works on towers (but not the barracks)

Gold being hard locked behind 2 weekly events is bullshit considering the amount you need to start unlocking talents on your units. In my newbie opinion prioritizing getting the welp eggs explosion is a must.
Half the guides I've seen for beating bullshit fights is to just cheese it with whelp egg explosion.
I honestly think welp eggs might be the best unit in the game even without that talent, but again I have only bee playing for about 3-4 days.

I really like it. You deny gold from the opponent by dropping near their base or get an early chest if that's your only unbound.
Maiev has surprisingly become one of my favorites, it also helps she can cheese some easy wins.

It's not random after your starting hand, the costs are put to the bottom of your deck the same way as the minis. You can see the next shared cost as well.
I think that you're supposed for play a bunch of cheap minis, and then make a big push with expensive minis played for cheap. But that doesn't really work out in practice.

Footmen gives you 4 units, while grunts only 2. Also grunts do not have armored trait and have terrible talents while footmen have stun and extra hp

What's the best pyromancer talent? I have pyroblast on the grid now and she's my only uncommon right now.
Pyroblast is okay, but Conflagrate is more useful in countering big groups, which is the main purpose of Pyromancer.
Is Hinterlands the big actual wall for real this time? Keep seeing people talk about struggling as early as Ashenvale but no boss has taken me more than a few attempts full F2P with Rend/Grom and no healing

I don't remember the exact team but I used carine, darkspear troll with regen and harpies with poison claws. I used the troll to push out the eggs, carine was basically the tank for the molten giants who had an escort and the harpies were for the molten giants without an escort, after that it was just playing defensively and as my units walked away let them take chunks out of rend till he dismounts, once he dismounts he comes for your base.
I might have been using necromancer as well but I don't remember, before I beat rend I was thinking about trying banshees on the molten giants just to take some pressure off. (molten giant costs 6, banshee 4 so good trade.)
I fricking hate this second level of deadmines. I have more trouble on that then the sneed fight.

I just beat 8 with Rend, most of my units are in the 9-11 level range. I had no hope at all until I went full Bat Rider/Pyromancer/Huntress, didn't matter much for the other levels since Rend is so good otherwise. Nothing in DM or the other two bosses feels like this

Rule #1 for every PvE map: use fricking gargoyle. It's a no-brainer. It trivializes so many bosses it's insane.
Also replace your tanks. Use either Tauren, Ghoul or Warson Rider.

Feed him unbound units while you just defend your base.
Send beefy units his way or like the other guy said send unbound ones (I dont like this way because I like to save my unbound for captures or holding a lane)
Invest in the Stonehoof Tauren and you'll be clearing shit like this in no time
Quests are really becoming unfun now that most of them are the tough lategame maps and require me to go back and make a specific team comp for every single one
yeah, pretty much my exact feeling after i got through the 10th tier or whatever. and that's what tells me it's just not a good game. i don't feel inspired to make a new comp to beat a specific encounter literally at all. i realized the only fun part about the game is when my monkey brain gets cheap rewards for winning a map and watching the xp bars on my units go up.

After completing few maps on heroic you hit a total brick wall and it becomes tedious boring grind if you ever want to push anything.
I have no idea how people can play past this point without spending some ungodly amount of RL money on gold. And even then gold will barely buy you exp for minis, which is the primary bottleneck.
Quests don't have all the mechanics, so they should be easier than the campaign levels.
There is a quest MMR though, so you can try to get a lower level fight by changing leaders or losing a bunch of times.
I am at plague lands and my team does all quest with out issues.

I don't know who will be audience for raids. They said it for lvl 27 +. So you mini needs to be max 20 lvl + 3 skill for 3 level + 4 levels for rarirty + 3 dungeon levels

Pyromancer is over rated as frick. NPC level 12 ogre magi soloed my level 14 Pyro.
Ogre is cost 5 while Pyro is cost 3
Spend some time comparing all ranged AoE to each other in terms of stats and divide it by the amount of mana you spend. Having 1 pyro AND 1 quillboar kill a single ogre is considered gold advantage.

This game just feels awful to play. Everything feels squishy and completely unbalanced. The arrows and bigger map just makes everything feel more confusing and the gold gathering just make the games feel even more one sided. It's like they completely missed the point of Clash Royal and somehow took a simple game and made it overly complicated and worse to play. The only thing it has going for it is pve which just feels like a bigger p2w scam than CR.

You can get uncommon (green), rare and epic mini upgrades directly in the grid. It costs less gold than buying the copies one by one, and you also don't need the other upgrade materials.
