Look for used book stores. The few I have I've bought second hand.

Good. you should be reading real science fiction and fantasy literature instead of the ripoff setting made to sell plastic toys. Those books are mass produced goyslop.

true, the books are moronic. if you want to consooom warhammer content just read wikis.

Just as interesting and more appropriate amount of effort for the reward which is puerile

Wikis and "video essays" are for low IQ manchildren. They 100% don't have the same feeling as reading a real novel with plot and characters. If you're going to read 40slop then sourcebooks you massive moronic homosexual. Granted sourcebooks don't have the same feel as reading a real book but it's still better than meme shit like wikis.

wikis are the same as sourcebooks. you just want to read summaries of the overall setting. anything more is a waste of fricking time on this schlock.

calling 40k novels "real novels" is cringe af boyyyyy plz kys

The difference is that when it comes to rpgs the sourcebook is what the setting actually is while the wiki is often what the fanbase thinks it is. The warhammer fandom wiki is like that and mixes in sources from multiple editions of the game with no real attempt to sort them out. Just pirate the pdfs.

the codexes are what the setting is. black library is inconsistent middle school tier fanfic based on what the """writers"""" think the setting is

Most scifi and fantasy isn't much better than black library books.

Mad how much shite is published in the genre that is essentially just fanfic tier moronic. I guess thats why classics like Asimov, Heinlen and Dick still hold so much sway today. Looked in waterstones and its all minorities or feminists sharting out the same dystopian shit on repeat.

WH40k books are shit for the most part in terms of speculative fiction, and that says a lot.
They are marketing tools for toy soldiers. But still, if you need to read them, just get a kindle (second hand, whatever, something cheap) and download them all from the WH40k general or anna's archive.
    That's what I do.

40k books are literal garbage tier, just find some fan fiction sites for 12 year olds, the majority of those stories will be better written

People who call 40k books slop really don't read much. You can do much, MUCH worse than these books. They're serviceable at worst.

Motherfricker, L Ron Hubbard was so good people to this day still mistake his sci-fi stories for religion.

For those unaware, most of the posts here and problaby the OP are by the same anti-BL shill that spams all GW threads with his drivel, specially /40kg/ where he was BFTO earlier today.
He's a washed out culture warrior and an butthurt eldargay, so he samegays like a motherfricker trying to make look all this organic and genuine, but his posting style and buzzwords out him everytime.

Space Marine by Ian Watson will forever be my favourite 40k novel and my yardstick for what the setting's tone should be like. Bizarre and callous as frick, like you'd actually have culture shock if you experienced it for real. He also writes marines you'd be terrified just to occupy the same room with, instead of big square-jawed hero monks.
    >"We're going in through it's anus", Biff whooped boisterously. Indeed. Indeed.

Where do people buy Warhammer 40k novels online? I used to use BookDepository, but then Amazon shut that shit down. BetterWorldBooks and Blackwell sadly doesn't have the 40k novels in stock, or at least not the ones I'm looking for.

    >Priests of Mars
    >Gods of Mars
I already have Lords of Mars and I'm trying to get the above books in hardcover.

    >Fabius Bile - Primogenitor
    >Fabius Bile: Clonelord
    >Fabius Bile: Manflayer

    >Skitarius
    >Tech-Priest

    >The Omnissiah's Chosen

I know it ain't 40K, but I was very surprised by pic related. Not the biggest fan of Gav Thorpe but his showcasing of the day-to-day life and feel of a Dwarven hold was really engaging. The history of Ekrund and its people were given in really satisfying not-lore-dumpy way, so much so that it actually made me give a frick about Dwarves as a distinct, culture.

The narrative suffers a but in the latter quarter of the book, but overall its very solid stuff. Would recommend if you want some Warhammer that's a bit more grounded.

Now I made the mistake of following it up with Oathkeeper which is bordering straight trash. And it's a shame because I actually liked the characters quite a bit, but the author just fricked them in the ass for no good reason. For instance the main Dwarf leading the reclamation of a lost hold decides, against all advice, to take the entire expedition deep into the hold to murk Skaven in a type of Soviet Deep Battle. Greybeards advise him to take it easy, going level by level starting at the top and working down. But he says nah, frick it, we'll show them rat-men what's up. They immediately get slaughtered, and so halfway in the book you're in a situation where the reclamation is already doomed. You know it and the characters know it. What a fricking waste of good characters. On top of that one of the antagonists gets a drake at the end, and I get the impression that this may have been some slight greenskin wank on the author's part.

Long story short, Warhammer fiction, be it fantasy or 40k or whatever, is as good as whose writing it. Makes it very frustrating since by the second chapter of nearly any of them I have a decent idea on how shit it's going to be, but by then you already have the frickin thing.
