In my opinion TBC could be awesome but they go overboard with unit cost changes and a boatload of random nonsense that they just hove in without much thought put into it. The fact that it sound like they're going to gut Undead in the upcoming release makes me sad. All in all, it's still worth a shot though seeing as its free - you might really like it.
>Is the protectors mod good?
Yes but i don't want to push my opinion on you so download it and try it out for yourself, it's free, it does have it's flaws but it's fun >Is warlords 4 worth trying?
This interests me as well as I've only played 3, now im more of a aow/homm gay when it comes to TBS as i prefer to directly control combat, but it was still a fun game, didn't even know card game existed btw
TPC is definitely worth checking out also devs just posted more update info recently, apparently undead will be able to store corpses for much easier mass production of units
Might be a good change but this also means that the undead can just poach any corpse and store them for when they wipe, previously you had to fight a good fight and kill enough enemies to raise skeletons in big numbers, now basically you can just swarm the enemy and lose fights and it won't matter, you still have a lot of corpses and probably a high level lich in your retinue or a hero with necromancy, why must undead always be a pain, aow unded were always a pain, especially aow3 necromancer, oh god not to mention homm necropolis, frick you if you play necropolis btw, undead in Warcraft 3 were always a pain, especially in team games, it's like devs universally agreed they have to make undead OP one way or another, frick undeadgays in general
Based skeleton gangrape poster, undead are always fun to play, also I will bring Derek, dr bones and Rico, ill take aviators and we're going for the iron lady quest, wish me luck bros
Yeah, the awesome illustrations have always been one my favorite things about these games. When I saw that WBC3 cover with the dragons and the skull-codpieced barbarian as a kid, I immediately thought "I must have it!".
You could extract them from the game files, but they would be tiny, like 110x70 or something. High res versions are from Alister Lockhart's galleries:

FYI, this is for the custom balance patch the Polish WBC3 multiplayer community is using. here's this guy's channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/nefreteteism/videos
They were probably talking about the 1.03.2x unofficial patches. I've heard that once one of those even used to bundled with the Steam/GOG version of the game. The Polish multiplayer patch is unrelated, it's their own creation.
FRICK the unofficial patches i just reverted to 1.03 and no longer having those annoying summon time limits makes the game far better
I feel you anon but i kinda prefer 1.03.25 today cause of improved stability, buffing some factions which was necessary after .24 imo, with .25 all of them are playable and range from mid tier to hig tier and no-one is in a shit position (.24 wood elves) now .25 still has some issues and pushes races to be more balanced which is basically impossible when you consider that heroes can easily fill in roles where races are weak but still patch is definitely worth checking out, and yeah they didn't remove the time counter but some summons are permanent (like spiders for dark elves)
>plague lords s tier
Black person, what?
[...]
It says multiplier though, meaning if you know you are playing against fairies you are gonna rush the shit out of them.
Didn't you see my post

? This tier list is for their multiplayer patch, NOT vanilla WBC.
TPC lads added more stuff to the map editor, now i know game has a good map ransomiser so that's what most people probably use but these will probably be there as well
Depends what race and/or hero I'm playing, if i have alternate means of income then i do tend to stop caring, especially since drained mines in the late game give you resources at the rate of lv1 mines so you need good map control and a lot of mines to keep up your unit production, especially if you're playing combat intense hero who doesn't give you any resources or a race that doesn't have strong economy, if i don't have to worry about all that ill just raze them so i wouldn't bother recapturing and so i would deny the enemy resources
Is it just me or is WBC 3 campaign ai kinda bad on normal, it's too easy, 1and 2 have pretty solid difficulty progression for their campaigns but 3 doesn't really, and the weirdest thing is that the game has good above normal ai that's not too hard, and i feel like that isn't in the campaign just skirmish, campaign has easy, another easy and hard difficulties
TPC lads keep progress posted on their discord, new updates are posted pretty much daily, bugs getting fixed, files getting cleaned up, no 0.9 till 2022 tho
Im playing WBC 3 campaign and dear god dark elevs are living up to the hype, whole campaign was going great, everything was smooth till >high elf queen escort to lunarion mission >dark elven ambush on the way happens >all my strongest retinue fighters are there >fight is starting when suddenly enemy hero starts teleporting around the battlefield like a fricking anime character >its a level 30 assassin oh shit >it kills the only retinue recruitable dragon >it kills my high level reaver next and my champion giant >this fricker killed my strongest bodyguards just frick my shit up.jpg >barely kill him and barely win this ambush with my hero under 50hp >next fight is defending against dark elven assault for 30 min >they actually keep attacking the whole time with no pause >all three datk elven armies keep building towers and advancing >in the meantime my brainlet high elf ally barely builds any defences >he fricking sends his army in a suicide attack >his hero gets killed during the attack >it doesn't even kill many of them just keeps a lot of fooder units back and they just join the next wave with blackguards and spellcasters
This was actually the most challenging part of the game thus far, even fighting demons to collect those keys was easier, also they sent a fricking titan like 15 min in during the survival mission and since i have that latest fan patch that thing had it's stats doubled, i barely took it down with what i had
dark elf assassins are some serious bullshit
about the only actually counter to them is summoning hordes of trash but then you get people crying to nerf summons instead
Main story missions are actually easier than quite a few side missions, that's where the fun of this campaign is, traveling the map and beating the shit out of everyone and completing all the side quests, not to mention that there are far more side missions you can take than the main story ones, and completing those makes the main story missions even easier, story is just there to give you an excuse for the rest of the campaign and the whole world map quest stuff imo
Anyone knows the best way to get some crowns early on in the chucks conquest campaign in the protectors mod, i need to upgrade and apparently i wont be able to use units above tier one town center if I don't research it first, it's pretty fun but I'm getting stomped by the ai after a few battles cause they get all of their units and i only get some basics
Me for sure, it's not even close. All the extra classes for 3 are neat but the fact that nay race/class combo is possible just makes it a powergaming clusterfrick. The new factions are neat as well but they're terribly balanced, and 2's campaign is way, way more fun to me. I also like dwarves (my favorite faction) much more in 2 but that might be at least partially due to the voice acting having more soul.
Yea I felt that the added factions were pretty needless and that's weird in a game where one of the main selling points is the massive amount of factions, you'd think more would be better. And I always like the 2 campaign map thing the best. And for some reason in my copy of 3 the summons were timed so my favorite of Daemon Summoner was not nearly as fun to play
There really is something about WBC2 that 3 fails to capture. The openness of 2's campaign is a huge bonus too. Starting off on that dumb island of dead elves on every hero in 3 gets old real fast.
I love both but WBC2 simply has better aesthetic when you look at the game as a whole, I don't know what were they thinking when they changed the way dwarven infantry looks, also much more engaging campaign, you're conquering the world and battles get more and more difficult with the race stronghold fights being very fricking hard, i still remember first time taking the human stronghold as orcs, it was a massacre, it started easy but they just kept sending bigger and bigger armies, at one point i thought i was winning and i captured half of one of their bases only to be assaulted by a massive force of cav, archers and catapults from the second base while my reinforcements got demolished by cav and wizards near the bridge as they advanced from the side, and they pushed me back all the way to my base, and stuff like this happened often during this most relevant battles, in WBC 3 on the other side "main" battles are a joke, final one being way too easy, you also get lost doing all kinds of things around the world map that you forget there's a bigger goal, in WBC 2 every victory is a goal as you slowly take over the world and most of them give you bonuses so theres insensitive to do it so it makes bigger battles easier, in WBC 3 becoming stronger only matters for more difficult side missions as you can basically just go from one objective to another and complete the main story in a short while without any bonuses, now WBC 3 campaign can also be fun but it's just not the same, it's more of a adventure than this big war or conquest and the main bad guy is a pushover, WBC 2 just has a superior campaign that's extremely replayable, WBC 3 campaign is great if you want to make new heroes and explore the world map and do whatever, but it just doesn't feel as engaging
>TFW there will be no more Warlords or Battlecry games >They'd probably ruin them by inserting politicking bullshit and not even re-hire the guy who did the art for Warlords III and the whole Battlecry series by that extension
I wish for a Battlecry game that is even bigger, with massive armies and heroes you can shape like clay to make them fit your style with an even more RPG-ish take on leveling and equipment. Not to mention even more personalized retinues that would make you feel that the guys who leveled up/appeared in your recruitment pool feel like your hero's true companions.
Don't think there's a mod that specifically adds portraits, there is 1.03.5 mod that adds new races, classes and more magic with some other things, it's pretty fun although new races look kinda jank, also there is this tutorial about adding your own portraits
https://www.moddb.com/games/the-protectors/tutorials/how-to-add-your-own-hero-portrait
This is actually somewhat of a overlooked aspect of the game but ironman combined with random maps, all the equipment and the level up system makes for an actual RTS rouguelike, these games were ahead of their time man, shame they never took off, then again they were never meant to seeing the complete and complex RPG level up system of old school RPGs first two games use, complete with race/alignment limitations, these games were pretty much made for special kind of autists and that's beautiful
Everyone keeps talking about other games in the series or the TPC, but the very first battlecry game is pure SOVL, the campaign and overall experience is peak 90s experimental RTS, peak old school gaming, the other two games just built up from this already strong foundation, I strongly recommend it to anyone here who skipped it or never played the series, pirate it if you want to just give the game a shot
I've been playing for a while. Is the number of units you can select each time capped?
I've noticed when I select a lot of units there are a couple that aren't chosen, even if they are well in the selection.
sell me on warlords and warlord battlecry. What are they like? What's the difference between the franchises? Would I be well served if I bought the latest installment in both on gog now during the sale?
Warlords are turn based strategy games with a pretty simple automatic stack vs stack, third game is the best one and has a lot of variety and it's a reboot o the setting so there's no reason to play previous ones unless youre curious, it's simple and fun, if you prefer to have more control in combat like homm or aow games you might end up disappointed, warlords battlecry are RTS games set in the same setting, you have a bunch of different races and a lot of hero classes to chose from, your hero is your leader, he can either be combat based, spellcasting based or support based where he gives you different bonuses or resources, resources are generated by mines and mines need to be captured by either your hero, town center building or specialised units like generals or phoenixes, to have good economy you need good map control, mines are resource generators and they keep generating resources even when "drained"just at a lower rate to insentivy you to keep good map control if you want to afford more expensive units like generals, dragons or titans, each building adds up to your unit limit so you also need good map control to raise the unit cap which goes up to 250, combat is your typical RTS affair but has stuff like crits, elemental damage, and effects like assassination where your units can instakill enemy units(datk elven assassin, wasp and gnols do this), units also have quite a bit of different behaviours they can be set on so you don't have to micro everything during the battle (and i mean a lot, they can be set to retreat, be defensive or offensive casters and a lot of other things), ai is pretty decent but nothing exceptional, it uses heroes, harasses you, steals your mines, attacks from different sides and with different units, uses spells and abilities, can be pretty challenging on higher difficulties but it usually puts up a good fight
Skirmish is my favourite mode to olay as random map generator is pretty solid and there are quite a few modes to it, campaigns are alright, second gane has the best one and overall the most consistent art style, first game has story driven campaign with two routes, second game has a world conquest complete with bonuses from different territories, unique zomes, enemy strongholds, artefacts, mercenaries to hire and so on, oh yeah all games have a pretty complex hero lv up system, for the third game it has been simplified but it still allows for different builds of same hero/class combos amd removes race limit for certain classes meaning you can combine and frick around as mich as you want, hero s also get artefacts they can use, third game gets a overworld map where you can travel around the world and you can complete quests and do whatever you want, main story isn't really engaging but it's mainly a plot device for the adventure campaign

It's nothing, sorry for all the grammar mistakes and this is without going into detail as there are many races and hero classes, and that's without talking about the protectors mod which adds each of the wbc3's 16 races multiple subfactions, which change a lot even the playstyle of the race as a whole at times, like there's an entire orc subfaction that specialises in goblins
>one of the factions in the TPC are minotaur pirates
What, i mean it is a cool idea but where are they getting this, are all these various warlords factions, are they getting them from old manuals or something?
Nearly everything in TPC is just loosely based on some brief mentions in Warlords, WBC and Puzzle Quest games. it's basically the mod makers' headcanon.
Oh I remember that one well, it was my first ever WBC experience and i changed my entire hero build to get the spell effectively screwing my hero so bad in the process that i was unable to finsih the campaign first time around cause my hero was dogshit especially against multiple armies all with high level heroes, good times, been playing since
It was some skeleton hero.
Then i made a minotaur hero for combat but actually barbarians got a better bonus for that or something so i didnt feel motivated any longer.
City of artifice in TPC is peak dwarves my god >cannons >they brought back old dwarven infantry aesthetic >all the upgrades for infantry and various siege engines >mortars are cheap and add a little to population limit (i think) so there's extra insensitive to mass huild them
Beautiful, previously i made a screenshot of my fully upgraded dwarven army fighting off multiple barbarian armies but for some reason it only saved a screenshot of my desktop screen, i tried taking another one but it happened again, anyone know how to fix this?
Fraps is exceptionally good at capturing screenshots/videos from games that otherwise refuse to be captured
the trial version has only BMP screenshots but you can open that in Paint and save as JPG or PNG
Does anyone know if there are limits for retinues?, as in what units can be part of it and at what level. ive been trying to get golems as retinue when playing my dark dwarf runemaster and the only unit i have as retinue is a random earth elemental.
You can't get mechanical units (golems and siege engines), dragons, and titans obviously. Besides that, I think every unit is eligible, they just need to get some XP.
All we know is this year, probably in a few months, also devs have said spellcasters will be able to cast spells from within towers and ferries in the new update, so now you can put units like dark elven mages inside and cast aoe spells on units attacking the tower
>upgrade army capacity
cool idea imo, you could add some utimate apocalyse style so for example - doing quest add more cap, owning arifacts or mines etc or even some misions or skills granting permament bonus
Certain armies already have this, while other have buildings that give more unit capacity than regular buildings.
Honestly the minotaurs are in dire need of that since their regular buildings are big as frick.
I tried playing WBC3 a long time ago but I got filtered by the first level. I had to slowly watch my units crawl to one corner of the map to kill some random enemies, then watch my units slowly crawl to the top of the map to exit the level. That movement speed bros...
But that's actually decently fast, faster than a lot of other RTS games, was some unit in your army wounded perhaps, that slows them down significantly, you can slo set this in settings if i remember correctly but your units in the same group can either move at the speed of the slowest unit in the group or at their own pace
And I don't mean wounded like lost health, i mean if they had that red cross symbol above tham, that's a wound and a debuff, and first mission is on a small map with a few obstacles between your and enemy base, i can imagine that either wounded units or siege engines slowed you down, also which race did you choose anon, dark dwarves perhaps? I can imagine that an army of golems with siege engines would actually be slow
This is anon with an update it's disease not a wound and I'm moronic, i forgot
I might take a shot at it again sometime later. It might've been since I was playing undead. It also could've been I was switching back and forth between max speed and regular speed. I vaguely remember the walking animations being really silly at max speed. Something about switching between game speeds rapidly mid-game sets my autism off and not in a good way. It was so long ago I don't remember honestly. I also played an old boxed copy because I heard the GOG release had fan patches in, so maybe that also played a role.
alright WBC2 campaign is awesome, first few fights were too easy but since it picked up it did not stop, i have yet to take out any race capital as it turns out those are actually pretty hard so i have just been conquering territories and stacking bonuses until i get ready for big fights but barbarians have been steamrolling the map in the meantime, are they usually this strong? Might have to deal with Attila the hun here before doing anything else
Taking a few capitals early is actually the way to go.
The campaign has a system where the AI difficulty will get set at a higher level if you take too many provinces with the same faction. You can lower the campaign difficulty to try to counter this but then you will get a worse reward for completing the campaign.
I forgot to thank you for telling me this anon, i finished that one ages ago as right after seeing your post i took over minotaur stronghold and proceeded from there, I'm now on my third campaign as the undead.
first time playing the protectors and I'm wondering, why did they change the way the high elf building looked? Did they do it themselves or are they models from somewhere else? I kind of like that they have gold on them, that's pretty neat. My first impression was that they kind of ruined the aesthetic they had in vanilla.
Factions? They all use the same buildings.
I'm kind of hating this mod already. If I try to buy another mana potion from a shop, I have to wait for a 5 minute cooldown and then it restocks with something else. Usually some useless Item I don't need. Also Titans take a half hour to build. Juses Christ.

IIRC they had this look in unpatched vanilla, one of official patches changed it back to WBC2 look.
Now that I have pretty much finished the campaigns for warlords 3 DLR I can say that Horn of Kor sucks because it's a drag.
Bane's Revenge and Bane wars are the two best campaigns even though they reuse some of the maps; the maps are fun to play so they're not boring.
Drak-Drum had good first mission but Drak-Drum iteslf is a drag and sucks.
Thalas was okay.
>it is kind of hard to see, but red player has wbc2 fortifications on this map auto-generated
So apparently you will have an option to give the enemy pre built fortifications on randomised maps
The series is easy to learn so just pick any game; I didn't even bother playing any tutorials that were given. W3 is the most popular followed by W2. You can give W1 if you like the series and W4 was a change in formula, some people hated it. I personally started with W2 a few years ago but if you also pick W2 I suggest not getting the deluxe version with the updated graphics; the developers didn't know what to do with all the new colours and certain designs look especially amateurish.
If you decide to get W3 then know that Darklords Rising is the most complete version and Reign of Heroes was the initial release.
I really like dwarves in WBC2 even though I know they aren't great. Their gameplay/buildup/turtling flow appeals to me and I love it when I've finally advanced enough that my drunken horde just roflstomps everything in its way.
>create a wood elf ranger, focusing on running and nature magic >not really feeling it in the first match and the game gives me a bunch of warrior items at the start >delete and make a barbarian ranger with a focus on running and combat skills, with support later on, completely neglecting spellcasting >the game gives me a bunch of druid and wizard items
Sometimes I wonder what the game is trying to tell me.
Playing warlords 3 here and is there a way to skip watching enemy turn, I'm enjoying the game but watching every single unit move across the map is annoying, especially since i already see the bar on the right which has all the information about every single enemy action and i can already see their position on the map so I don't really want to follow my enemies as they send singular eagles across the map to reinforce their armies
Make sure you check your settings that let you speed up the game. If you're still complaining then you'll just have to deal with it like everyone else. It's not really problem unless you have max players but sometimes the AI just wants to move an entire stack one unit at a time.
Yeah I'm playing on big maps so there's a lot of units moving all over the place, aow spoiled me with simultaneous turns and after playing for a few min with the fastest moving speed it's alright
Alright after playing almost all the other warlords and WBC games I've decided to try warlords 4 and this game is actually fun, i must admit i was expecting it to be shit but it surprised me in a pretty positive way, especially since i looked into it and they apparently made the game from scratch in 6 moths, what actually bothers me now is that the game has some pretty decent looking models they didn't use for WBC 3 which is a shame as some of the units and cities look pretty good and would fit right in, i mean they already used WBC resources for this game so they definitely should have reused warlords 4 resources as well but whatever, if you want to give the game a try download it from the internet archive, torrent there is the fastest way
https://archive.org/details/warlordsivheroesofetheriausa
Latest patch is on myabansonware
https://www.myabandonware.com/game/warlords-iv-heroes-of-etheria-df9
If you're playing Warlords 4 unpatched then you should definitely try out to play Dwarves with a Divine Magic Major Warlord.
The Altar of Battle spell globally gave all your units +6 combat add the Divine Grace spell and your Dwarven Axemen are stronger than any unbuffed unit but you can still get two Dwarven Axemen every turn in every city you own.
Even in the patched version where the Altar of Battle spell got nerfed hard it's still one of the most broken strategies.
I can't believe that conquest modded campaign is better than vanilla WBC 3 campaign, also the guy who made is called Chuck, kek, but TPC guys apparently updated it for the mod as well so might even call it formerly Chuck's
I just found out that TPC update is going to include a massive buff for all spellcasters, basically you don't have to level up each spell individually you only need to unlock them once and leveling intelligence and ritual upgrades all spells instantly, also spell failure has apparently been removed and items which add spellcasting on hit have mostly been replaced with same version but instead of autocast you get the spell and you have to cast it manually, also aforementioned ability to use spells from inside of a tower, I'm honestly glad about this cause what they wanted is to make spellcasters equal to warriors, they could have nerfed warrior classes instead but i prefer buffing weaker stuff to nerfing shit into the ground and WBC games have so many races and classes that balance simply isn't possible, best thing to do is buff whatever is at disadvantage to make the game more fun
Reminder to get a few trolls in your retinue as minotaurs as you produce sheep for healing and removing debuffs, keep the sheep on auto production and have your trolls grab as many as possible and have them go to town on the enemy as your minotaurs hold the line, gotta admit tho, to this day I don't understand why trolls use sheep as ammunition.
so where do I get number 3 and the best mod? TBC is it ? is there a lot of lame fiddling to get it all to work? seems pretty cool, theres a multiplayer scene?
All games are on gog and TPC, the protectors mod, you can find on moddb, unfortunately you'll have to join their discord for multiplayer, fortunately mod has both third game's campaign and aforementioned conquest campaign previously made for3 and both are extremely replayable with a bunch of other custom campaigns but these are my favourites, and ai is decently challenging
Might as well give TPC a shot but personally I'd suggest you start with 2, then try 3, THEN try TPC. I think TPC messes with the formula a bit too much - a one step forwards two steps back sort of thing.
Oh they are different for sure, and second game might actually have the best campaign in the series, if anon doesn't want to buy multiple games i say even pirating WBC 2 is a good choice, it's definitely a game worth at least one playthrough
I'd say it's well worth checking out at least as it's free and latest version is decently stable, I've been playing it a lot for the last few months and i only had two crashes and wbc3 and McGee's campaigns are perfectly stable
So what are the best factions in the game? I always felt like Dark Dwarves had few real weaknesses. Units are incredibly resistant only weak to lightning damage which is somewhat rare and inaccessible to some. If not killed off early they can reach a critical mass of siege machines with insane AoE or single target damage. Spammed firebats can easily wipe out mines and any towers built to defend them so a relative lack of map control isn't that big of a deal. Free firebombs for obnoxious harassment. Back in 2 when movement speed and attack speed were tied together they could get swarmed down but in 3 they were kinda buffed by everyone else getting nerfed.
Dark dwarves are a good choice, id say empire is pretty damn strong with all the upgrades that make even the cheapest units they got pretty useful and multiple kinds of mages also mercenaries and strong economy, fey are extremely strong as well once you get their upgrades, orcs are very good as well, very versatile, honestly i can think of advantages for every race and their weaknesses can always be compensated by the hero or retinue
Not to say they are all perfectly balanced, of course some are stronger than others on their own, it's just that game has a lot of tools to compensate for their weaknesses, except for .24 wood elves, they are shit, if you're game version is 1.03.24 either upgrade to 1.03.25 or downgrade to one of older official patches, both are better
I'm always hesitant to include Fey into the top tier factions. Yeah their lategame is unbelivably insane but their early game is so horribly bad with units so weak you'll need to hope your opponent has similarly weak early game units. They're sorta designed to be that way for if you manage to hold of an enemy attack the towers will have generated a large amount of resources to rapidly tech up with. I've never played the game competitively and only with a couple friends so I don't know how well the Fey could hold off the biggest rushers.
Top tier races in my opinion include >daemons >minotaurs >dark dwarves >undead >high/dark elves
All still with strengths and weaknesses, and some need a good hero that works well with their strengths to really shine (undead necromancer).
There are other races that have the potential to be really strong, but more glaring flaws, like fey, knights and orcs.
elves
Thinking about this, put those down in the tier-list. Although they don't have glaring flaws (they are build around their weird economy), they aren't that overpowered either.
I feel like in the base game non fan patched high elves are still OP. All metal and gold goes towards regular troops and eventually the endless dragon knight spam. All crystal goes to making wisps until you have a shitload of ancient wisps and the wisp spam alone is enough to kill most things. Their starter units are a bit pricey but still strong enough to resist most rushes with tower support. Only weakness I can think of is a massive skeleton rush before you get the knights and ancient wisps as all your army damage will be piercing The knight/wisp army composition can smash it way through anything in the mid game.
Are they the best cav in the game with upgrades? I mean yeah kinght cavalry is the strongest by far, but getting high tier knights is more expansive and dragon knights can also attack flying units

Dragon Knights have better stats across the board compared to the Knight and Knight Champion (though the first one has a bit more speed and the latter one a bit more HP), only the Knight Lord beating them overall. Dragon Knights are also more costly, but I never had that many issues with amassing them compared to the slow-ass start with the Knight faction and their huge gold hunger.
Don't know how the Dragon Knights superior combat skill stacks up to all the damage and armor upgrades the human knights get. But yeah, they sure seem more convenient. Too bad Knight Protector doesn't apply to them.

In the base game dragon knights were less than half the cost of regular knights and were better in almost every way except 1 speed point and 30 hit points, Regular knights took longer to build, costed more, did less damage, were basically blind so they could never operate alone, only hit ground units, and had worse elemental resistances. But they were more upgradable with better damage and armor if a lategame situation every happens. Once you add in fan patches things are much more slanted in the human knight's favor as dragon knights get nerfed hard.
Just found out undead heal faster on the rain, damn, i already knew races get certain bonuses if they fight during the day or night thanks to the fact so many races can change daytime but i didn't know weather had impact as well for some
"have a nice day" is never an appropriate response. The fact you think it is just shows why no one likes you because you always let your anger issues on others.
Finally got all the Battlecry games from GOG sale. Started with the first one, so far loving how comfy it looks and sounds. Is it going to get frustratingly hard later on? I though I'd blaze through the first one then spend more time with the sequels.
Massive buildings suck though.
It's actually a pretty interesting way to balance factions by giving some really big buildings that make it difficult to expand.
Agreed, a very odd but interesting balance mechanic. Which of course begs the question of why the Swarm has frickhueg buildings, but then Swarm and Plaguelord have a shitton of issues so maybe its not surprising.

I'm sure it wasn't even intentional. You can tell that WBC3 didn't get enough testing before being released - a lot of things are carried over from WBC2 without adjusting the balance or descriptions to WBC3 mechanics, for example. If you play a race with big buildings, in some missions you literally don't have enough space to build a base, and the starting towers are placed so closely that you can fit maybe 2 building between them, and by the time you hava a decent base they'll be in the middle of it, and thus useless for defense. It's like they made the maps and didn't even play them. That also reminds me of a case when the AI made a big army with a titan, like 50 normal troops and a dragon or two - and got completely stuck on a bridge, while I destroyed all their buildings with impunity.
>instantly kills all your units and turns them into skeletons in your path >oh you sent a dragon at me too? guess now I have a dracoliche
necromancy is bullshit

ice magic is kind of a weird one
its like a shittier fire magic but they tried to make it seem different
at least the slow effects are useful but not much else
>take a riddle quest >know the answer so type it in >it doesn't work >look up the riddle to make sure I'm not making a fool of myself >Internet says I'm right so maybe I typed it in wrong >try a dozen different variants with and without caps >nothing works
FRICK YOU TPC THE ANSWER IS "EGG" NOT WHATEVER STUPID BULLSHIT YOU HAVE INSTEAD
I was actually going to ask the same question here. I guess it's intended so your heroes wouldn't be too overpowered from the beginning, but they should at least give you a choice which items you want to keep.
Just started an Ork Bard run in Warlords:Battlecry 3. Just gotta remember to build properly for the barbarian lords challenge cus every time i forget about it they end up fricking me.
The lore and history of Etheria is so fascinating to me. It was one of the first fantasy universes I was introduced to as a kid, and it set my expectations for the whole genre. Even though now I know that it rips off many things from Warhammer Fantasy or Forgotten Realms, I like it more than either of them.
Recnetly, I have been thinking that it would be great to adapt to a mod for Crusader Kings. There is surprisingly much info about dynasties, kingdoms etc., and pretty detailed maps. But I think it would be pointless to make such a mod right now, since most people move on from CK2 to CK3, and CK3 is basically unfinished yet. Although I probably don't have enough time and dedication for such a project anyway, I have been writing down some ideas, how to adapt certain things. So I'm just throwing the idea out there, to see if anyone else would be interested in something like that.
By the way, someone once tried to make a Warlords mod for Civilization V.
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/warlords-battleciv-a-total-conversion-mod.543705/
>dark dwarves and the Empire >neutral
I'm already triggered.
At some point I wanted to write a /tg/ game loosely based on the style of WB, with players playing heroes but also commanding armies. But it never left the concept stage since it be basically just another wargame.
According to the wiki, they have the alignment neutral, which surprises me. I thought they were evil. Empire is also neutral in that.
Although, normal dwarves and ssrathi would also be neutral according to the game.
The thing is a purely good society simply doesn't exist.
Even in three the "good" Empire colonises the "neutral" Ssrathi (who have a caste system) and the Empire is not depicted in a positive light for it.
There are both Forgotten Realms and Warhammer mods for CK2, and Etheria is as you mentioned very similar to them, so you could cut a lot of time by using assets from those mods. Making the new map and fleshing out the county histories so the world feels alive would be the most difficult parts. As you said though, Paradox kind of killed Crusader Kings modding scene by coming out with CK3 and then just letting it sit idle for two years so it may not be worth it.
Recently had a friend visiting and he was looking at my installed games, never seen WB3 before. Did a quick match and we were laughing all the way at the barbarian voice lines. >look at me biceps
You need the enemy to be using trash units for that to work. I'm leveling my Necro right now and i end up mostly using summon skeleton. summon zombies, dark portal and dark storm. Rarely i end up using strip flesh or ice ring. And when it comes to summon champion i usually go for a vampire general but since it costs so much mana, only one or two per game.
You probably tried different compatibility modes, guess you can try reducing your home screen resolution down to game's resolution when playing or fiddle with game's resolution itself
>Francis was a good kid once but other students at wizard school kept clowning on his name making him turn to dark arts
honestly fitting backstory for a villian
>play the game >finally remember that you can choose who you ally with >don't attack the first snake settlements >go directly to their capital >parley >and this will change who you fight against
I love the Warlords:Battlecry games.
Seriously? How can you not notice that? For me it was actually the opposite, at first I didn't realize it was possible to take the Empire's side if you are not imperial yourself.
Look im a brainlet who just followed locations one after another and cleared quests, it didn't occur yo me that i can just go all over them map and experiment from the start
Technically not all classes/races can benefit fully from getting allies. There are those who get special skills/magic schools that will let you use other races more effectively. This can let you change to races that will be best suited to take down whatever you're about to face in a mission. This also means you need to know most races pretty well and be aware of their weaknesses and counters. Also being allied lets you get units and generals for your retinue. You should check the wiki for more information.

The true advantage of getting allies is having the difficulty for mission reduced.

I never noticed that. I played the game a lot a while back but now that i'm back the only quest that fricked me up was the barbarian chief's challenge. Frick those gaygets. Had to get up to lvl 22 with my necromancer to beat them and it was a real chore. Now i'm playing a merchant Knight and i'm just gonna skip them till i'm lvl 20+.
Yea...don't sleep and micro your other units to protect your hero while he is converting. It's not that hard. If i a 40+ years uncle like me can do i'm sure that you youngsters would have no trouble with it.
If you're playing WB3 you should know that you can get free lvl 6 generals from your home faction territory. >for example as an Undead you can get lvl 6 vampires from The Realm of Death territory
0.9 when, i wish I didn't join discord cause answer to every question there is either"fixed in0.9" or it's coming in "0.9" and I'm kinda blueballed niw
Strategy game, especially RTS, modders are insane people who keep adding stuff to their favourite games all the time, for other instances look at dawn of war mods, BFME mods, total war mods, star wars empire at war mods, etc. bless their autism.
I guess they want to make usage of ranged units more micro intensive so that blobbing them up and protecting with beefy or fast melee units isn't enough on it's own
Tried that with an orc death knight on a bunch of goblins, just doesn't seem worth it for the amount of mana. Chaos magic needs like a 60% chance for a positive outcome to ever be really good.
I'm playing another WBC 3 campaign and I allied ssrathi, I'm playing a spellcaster tho so gift artefacts they have would be very useful, will they remain allied with me if i do the quest chain and take all of them?
Thank you for the answer anon, i was just checking the thread before booting the game up
theres a point system to it, if you ally with the dinos and then do missions for the empire, you will get points with the empire and lose some with the dinos. conversely if you do missions for the dinos you will get points with them etc. I don't remember if dinos had any repeatable missions but if they do you should be able to get back up to ally if you don't drop down far enough to become an enemy
Have a really hard time deciding which hero and faction I want to tackle the campaign of wb3 with.
Was thinking of a knight bard as he's pretty great at supporting, but don't really like having a pure support hero.
Maybe a minotaur chieftain and focus on the barbaric races.
High elves are my favorite race, but played them a lot in past campaigns, and my current hero already has some levels from custom games.
Dark elf hero could be fun.
You don't have to build your bard as a support hero. You can put points in the combat stats so you don't implode at the mere site of enemy units. You have to put at least enough to be able to do the barbarian's challenge, the fairy challenge etc.
Tried the minotaur chieftain with the condition that if I find good items for that class in the first mission I'll play that. Nah, got shit. Will be doing the bard instead, just allied with the empire. Will be a charisma/intelligence hero, but might keep some warrior items for the challenge.
didn't even think of that all the times I've done that quest...
usually just try to get it done early so there is less risk of getting one of them that put half his points into the +combat skill or strength raping me in 5 seconds

Do changed stat from using chaos magic actually remain between missions if you use them on a unit in your retinue? Pretty sure the costs of units for retinues is based on the level, so maybe you can game the system a bit.
>"moving troops from one end of the map to the other"-simulator.
you mean a "vectoring troops from one end of the map to the other"-simulator. I never thought it that much of a problem, but I enjoy logistics too.
>download protectors mod (current version + all patches) >play original WBC3 campaign (fixed version) >crash multiples times every now and then, but still manageable >over time see that I'm running out of space on PC >wtf >investigate further whats eating up space >everytime it crashes it creates an snappshot of the RAM and saves it on appdata >over 200 Gb of space used for these snapshots >unninstall mod
Just buy WBC3 from Steam or GOG and forget the mod
Anyone has a link to those old XP maps from WBC3?
I remember back in the day using a modified version of Dark Range that could level from 1 to 40 in one run. Now I can't even find the original Dark Range map
I remember when the rumors of a potential WBC4 was a thing, I Imagined how cool would it be to get real 3d and when a huge unit hit smaller ones like skeletons, the bones flew away and stuff. also real hero customization, so the model could look like the portrait
But the future of this "franchise" have being puzzle quest
Yeah, warlords franchise, might and magic wasn't enough for the French bastards, and they still don't even really bother making strategy games with these
damn, and When I saw the logo decades ago for some reason I thought they were just distributors and not the owners.
specially because they already had Might and Magic...
Thats sad, but if Ubisoft goes bankrupt and sell their Ips, Lets hope somebody like THQnordic or one of thouse smaller but efficient groups takes a hold of it.
I haven't but i reckon card games are always more intriguing, started playing cometh of recent and to be honest i have been loving it especially cause it's rewarding and very competitive.
I'd start with 2 as it has the best campaign in the series imo, map conquest is done pretty well and it has the most consistent artstyle, third game does have a lot more options tho and first one has a decent branching story campaign.
battlecry 1 for the story campaign and screwing around as an overpowered pyromancer
battlecry 2 for the dark crusade-like conquest campaign
battlecry 3 for the all the races, streamlined hero creation/lvling and the campaign that is a mix of story/conquest
protector's for when you want more of the above and realize that heroes need to be toned down a bit
If your hero gives you say massive discount or free resources that can't be blown up unless he gets killed, keep him out of combat in the early gane and capture mines, also even high level spellcasters can't keep casting strong spells for too long before they're out of mana

charisma builds/merchants are great and all, but they don't really have much of a way to deal with a hero that took mostly str/dex and blitzed your base at the start of the game
what good are all your resources if you have no base to spend them on?

That's where retinues come in. A high charisma hero can field a bigger starting army than some meathead that is just good at smashing things but has the personality of a brick.
Unless you play a match without retinue points, then you are fricked

unless you play as dark elves and take several of the great equalizer that is assassins, I really wouldn't consider a retinue to be much more than a speed bump
the difference in combat/hp/dmg/speed that a grugbrained warrior can get is pretty ridiculous later on

If you never played a support hero then try it. I don't exactly how it works in wbc1 but in wbc2 a dark dwarf merchant is insanely powerful by just producing cheap stone golems and standing next to them with his high morale stat to give them buffs of +5 or +7 for speed or attack and are fast enough to sprint across the map and cannot be polymorphed or poisoned.
Same thing with imp spam from demons or producing endless hordes of barbarians faster than the enemy can kill them.

I hope you are not mistaking my comments about warriors as me actually liking them as I really do not
personally what I have had the most fun with is empire archmage with a mix of int/cha for an army of cheap low tier troops backed up by big summons and golems
I don't understand the AI in the protector's mod. Sometimes when I make a custom game and start a match, I see the AI not building anything at all and its hero not moving at all.
Is this why it's so popular among all the few battlecry fans?
Here's a way to spice up the game for those who've exhausted much of the stuff, tried lots of different race/class combos et cetera: Use the WB3 Hero Editor program (comes bundled with the Unofficial Patches but you can also get it seperately IIRC) to create a "custom class" by creating a character and then changing the skills to your liking. I'd recommend creating something synergistic yet non-overpowered set of skills perhaps restrained by "fluff" considerations. Such as: I created a High Elf "Paladin" with more spellcasting oriented skills (fits the High Elf theme better) to replace some of the combat skills or crappy ones like the "Knight Lord" skill which is useless for anyone other than Knight. Added some more magic skills thematically appropriate for the High Elf Paladin like Ice Magic and Divination. Kept Paladin-oriented skills like "Smite Evil". I think my only combat skills are "Ferocity" (+combat) and "Smite Evil" (+dmg to "evil" races) and the rest are all magic to create a "Fighter/Mage" kind of High Elf Paladin.
I think the tool (Army Editor/Hero Editor) was made later on by the modders who made the Unofficial Patches (some or all of them are now involved in developing The Protectors mod if I'm not mistaken)
I just realized that those aren't horses, those are dog skulls and skeletons as a whole look like dog's, Bane's ride is probably carried by two massive undead hellhounds and that's pretty based
I found dumb and cool that Sartek's skull was the entire titan.
just to imagine a piece of dead bone from the original sartek was that strong, imagine the real thing when he was alive.
Cool pic! Is that King Lunarion she's fighting there? If we're gonna go by fast/flies/hits hard by "best" then Lunarion does all of that and kicks Balora's ass. He has better stats and he can benefit from a way better upgrade (3x regen). As a "duelist" Titan designated to take on other Titans and late tier units, Lunarion is probably better. That's a decent endgame role for a Titan. Ultimately though a Titan's overall power depends on the particular race you are facing - their resistances & vulnerabilities etc.
For reasons of creativity & coolness & badassery, these two:
Bane because he's a frickin lich riding a pimp wagon
I found dumb and cool that Sartek's skull was the entire titan.
just to imagine a piece of dead bone from the original sartek was that strong, imagine the real thing when he was alive.
Yeah I guess that was a bit of an unfair comparison since KANG Lunarion belongs to the tall/blond/handsome master race who reminds neckbeards around the world of the chads who bullied them at school
Ever since Warlords III: Reign of Heroes when they first started expounding on their lore, High Elves have been given this extremely stoic "bulwark against the dark" role. They live in the frozen north neighboring both Bane's Undead and Sartek's Beastman/Minotaur menace in a spartan/stoic and highly religious society which designates them as stewards and guardians of the world. They also guard Mordanion against Demon incursion because one of them fugged up & opened the portal and they take responsibility for it and dedicate their lives to cleaning up the mess. Very chad, very Indo-European. Obviously Noldor inspired. Warlords setting is obviously derivative of Warhammer Fantasy and it's like they took the Asur and amplified only their "stoic guardians against evil" aspect.
>remember someone mentioned how four horsemen in warlords games are inspired by the biblical horsemen of the apocalypse >decide to check it out >mfw first thing i see is literally swarm of scorpion like locusts with horrifying human like faces and bodies like armour sent to torment humanity
I didn't expect it to be so literal
hard to say, on one hand he did have armies on the doorstep of each of his brother's capital cities, on the other he was defeated by just locking him in his house
>great at taking out heroes, artillery, big units >fast and good at establishing map control >actually requres you to take good care of your hero cause he's powerful and can oneshot but is still vulnerable >has both gold from each assessination and access to wealth so he can provide a pretty good eco boost and your army doesn't suffer cause your hero is combat focused >makes brainlet warriors cover in terror
Assassin best class
Anyone having any experience with an assassin that isn't a dark elf? Empire assassins get the wealth synergy and producing more gold should really help them, also alchemy for creating more potions. Some seem to swear on the fey assassin for invisibility.
>battlecry wiki puts fey under the neutral factions >most of their units have alignment: good >apparently the barbarian unit is neutral, but the rider and warlord are good
Thinking about these slaying-skills and how they are cool for thematic heroes, but really not that useful.
Does any anon know exactly what sort of cheats the ai gets in the battlecry games with higher difficulties? Is it just a big initial resource boost or is it some constant thing?
Thanks anon. By the way does anyone know a trick to getting WBC2 to run lag-free on win10? It chugs when there's a lot of units on the screen for some reason. I tried the brainlet things like compatibility modes and no good so far.
>WB3s main campaigns first mission >as fey >tiny feeble fey infantry dies in the first encounter >go back asking for more troops >ship guy gets angry and gives me even more archers
Maybe less archers would have died if you gave me some fricking frontline?
It was an honour lads, did we beat that age of wonders thread that was up for a long time btw? I was in that one as well and I'd like to know.
Okay, are the ambush battles supposed to be impossible?
I blew all my money on extra points for the first ambush against the lizards and now I have to move all the way around, constantly dying to them.
Depends what race and hero class are you playing, playing squishier races can be a pain during those, try to get units from other races for your bodyguards.
Oh, then i suggest you change your approach, try to bait their priests one by one without advancing too far and take them out first and then take out the army at the end, you could wait for the reinforcements for that part then.
[...]
It's been a good run, I believe we beat the aow thread by a good 40-50 days so we should hold the record for longest living thread on this board for some time to come
We did it lads
Whens the newest protectors build coming out? I want to replay the game but I dont want to switch to a newer build after I've invested too much time into the current one
We don't know exactly, they posted more screenshots on moddb a few days ago I think, also they apparently post updates daily in their dicksword and they make progress literally every single day, hopefully it'll be out soon.

WBC 2 buildings are all better looking imo, also all the races feel like they belong in the same setting, plaguelords and empire look out of place to me personally, i do enjoy playing the empire but aesthetically speaking 2 is the best one. Honestly i feel like it was a situation similar to TW Warhammer 3 where they changed things just to stand apart from previous game in the series.

Totally agree about the plaguelord aesthetics, buildings in 3 are a bit too busy in general sometimes design-wise.
I disagree, I think the buildings look way better in 3, maybe except High Elven ones.
To add to what this anon said WBC 3 buildings being generally bigger actually makes a difference gameplay wise. Every building adds to the army cap and in WBC 2 it's much easier to build up on a smaller part of the map, in WBC 3 on the other hand building size by default demands you establish better map control if you want to raise a big army, and not only that but it also makes it harder to cover your base in towers.
Honestly I've always found the huge buildings more annoying than anyhting, especially when troops get stuck and you have to demolish them to get them out. Seems to me one of those things they didn't think through and test properly.
I know this thread is close to death but I need to b***h a little. I downloaded TPC after anons kept talking about it and it's... frustrating. I wish RTS mod devs could keep bloat down and not let their egos get away with them. Some of the changes are great from what I've played, Plaguelords especially feel better in many ways. But then they do shit like totally changing the costs of units for a ton of the factions for what, balance or something, with no regard to what actually makes sense in terms of theme and flavor. If I wanted to play a competitive, semi-balanced RTS I'd play fricking AoE2 or some shit. It's a damn shame, I wish they would have just tweaked the balance for most factions while giving the very few who needed LOTS of work like Plaguelords the attention they've been given. Just not my cup of tea I guess, but it's a damn shame.
>Is the protectors mod good?
more lore and somewhat harder, by i myself am not veteran of it
also thread theme;
That bald elf looks pretty shit but I'd still want her to put herself on top of my dick.
Never played battlecry, but it's pretty funny that it uses the same stock music as HoMM4.
Does anyone know the original?
>Is the protectors mod good?
Nah
>Is warlords 4 worth trying?
Yes, I actually liked it more than Warlords 3 overall, though it does have its problems.
Where can I find warlords 4?
just look on some abandonware sites
It's on My abandonware.
you must be dumb as hell if you can't use a simple search engine
why search when you can ask?
are you a woman?
In my opinion TBC could be awesome but they go overboard with unit cost changes and a boatload of random nonsense that they just hove in without much thought put into it. The fact that it sound like they're going to gut Undead in the upcoming release makes me sad. All in all, it's still worth a shot though seeing as its free - you might really like it.
https://www.lostmediawiki.com/Warlords_Battlecry_(partially_lost_soundtrack_of_real_time_strategy_game;_2000)
Someone out there probably still has these tracks on their old PC in the attic.
"Assassin" even appears in one of the cutscenes from the WBC1 campaign, looked for this uite a long time. Thanks for sharing this.
How is WBC3 these days? Does it have any decent community patches for bugfixes & to make it more playable on modern machines?
This is all you need:

Any interesting or powerful but counterintuitive hero class/race combos?
>Is the protectors mod good?
Yes but i don't want to push my opinion on you so download it and try it out for yourself, it's free, it does have it's flaws but it's fun
>Is warlords 4 worth trying?
This interests me as well as I've only played 3, now im more of a aow/homm gay when it comes to TBS as i prefer to directly control combat, but it was still a fun game, didn't even know card game existed btw
TPC is definitely worth checking out also devs just posted more update info recently, apparently undead will be able to store corpses for much easier mass production of units
nice pics for ants
I wish ants were more like oakmen where they're both workers and capable early game melee unis, i know swarm already has that but i wish ants were it
I mean cheap early game units, not worker/fighter combo, they have that
>cheap as frick
>amazing builders
Ants are already great as they are. I don't see why they should get better.
Also the ability to summon your retinue units during the battle with price being adjusted to their level has been added
Might be a good change but this also means that the undead can just poach any corpse and store them for when they wipe, previously you had to fight a good fight and kill enough enemies to raise skeletons in big numbers, now basically you can just swarm the enemy and lose fights and it won't matter, you still have a lot of corpses and probably a high level lich in your retinue or a hero with necromancy, why must undead always be a pain, aow unded were always a pain, especially aow3 necromancer, oh god not to mention homm necropolis, frick you if you play necropolis btw, undead in Warcraft 3 were always a pain, especially in team games, it's like devs universally agreed they have to make undead OP one way or another, frick undeadgays in general
death comes to all and represents all
Based skeleton gangrape poster, undead are always fun to play, also I will bring Derek, dr bones and Rico, ill take aviators and we're going for the iron lady quest, wish me luck bros
>Has anybody here played the card game version of warlords?
Wait. There is a card game?
nope
Thise cards look pretty cool, i always liked the artwork they used in warlords ganes
Yeah, the awesome illustrations have always been one my favorite things about these games. When I saw that WBC3 cover with the dragons and the skull-codpieced barbarian as a kid, I immediately thought "I must have it!".
The same but for me with the Doom Knight like on
You can see the artists work on his tumblr: https://alisterlockhart.tumblr.com/
Is there a sprite/asset rip out of these unit portraits? If not, how hard it is to do?
You could extract them from the game files, but they would be tiny, like 110x70 or something. High res versions are from Alister Lockhart's galleries:

KNIGHT LORDS RULE!
They are way too slow to produce. Every time I play Knights, I end up using mostly dancing swords and archons.

Yes. I really enjoyed the game.
MOVE OUT
God what I would not give for a warlords battlecry 4
Average tier list according to:
https://tiermaker.com/categories/video-games/warlords-battlecry-3-multiplayer-races-184048
FYI, this is for the custom balance patch the Polish WBC3 multiplayer community is using. here's this guy's channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/nefreteteism/videos
Kurwa mac
Oh wow i wasn't aware there was a polish community, wonder if it's one of the patches people have talked about here or a completely separate one
They were probably talking about the 1.03.2x unofficial patches. I've heard that once one of those even used to bundled with the Steam/GOG version of the game. The Polish multiplayer patch is unrelated, it's their own creation.
Yeah 1.03.24 used to come with the official copy
I feel you anon but i kinda prefer 1.03.25 today cause of improved stability, buffing some factions which was necessary after .24 imo, with .25 all of them are playable and range from mid tier to hig tier and no-one is in a shit position (.24 wood elves) now .25 still has some issues and pushes races to be more balanced which is basically impossible when you consider that heroes can easily fill in roles where races are weak but still patch is definitely worth checking out, and yeah they didn't remove the time counter but some summons are permanent (like spiders for dark elves)
>improved stability
Lol, for me these patches make the game more unstable.
Wtf, not sure if i agree but fey especially being that low is bullshit, they are high tier for sure
Didn't you see my post
? This tier list is for their multiplayer patch, NOT vanilla WBC.
>plague lords s tier
Black person, what?
It says multiplier though, meaning if you know you are playing against fairies you are gonna rush the shit out of them.
FRICK the unofficial patches i just reverted to 1.03 and no longer having those annoying summon time limits makes the game far better
Let's settle this once and for all
Drayad
A kid wouldn't have breasts that big. Pixies though.
fem high elf avatar
shame you can't have a secondary hero because I would pick this every time
Spider priestess
Left is the one you marry, right is the one she turns into two years into your marriage.
Left, she looks better, right looks like some crazy ass b***h
>great retainer
>awful for mass production
doom knight is still best boy and you all know it
TPC lads added more stuff to the map editor, now i know game has a good map ransomiser so that's what most people probably use but these will probably be there as well
Anyone else stops caring about keeping mine at some point in the battle?
Depends what race and/or hero I'm playing, if i have alternate means of income then i do tend to stop caring, especially since drained mines in the late game give you resources at the rate of lv1 mines so you need good map control and a lot of mines to keep up your unit production, especially if you're playing combat intense hero who doesn't give you any resources or a race that doesn't have strong economy, if i don't have to worry about all that ill just raze them so i wouldn't bother recapturing and so i would deny the enemy resources
I'm new to the series. where should I start?
battlecry 2 imo
Honestly I'd say with the first game, it has a pretty fun campaign with two routes
You can also go 2-3-TPC mod, TPC has first game's campaign among others
Is it just me or is WBC 3 campaign ai kinda bad on normal, it's too easy, 1and 2 have pretty solid difficulty progression for their campaigns but 3 doesn't really, and the weirdest thing is that the game has good above normal ai that's not too hard, and i feel like that isn't in the campaign just skirmish, campaign has easy, another easy and hard difficulties
TPC lads keep progress posted on their discord, new updates are posted pretty much daily, bugs getting fixed, files getting cleaned up, no 0.9 till 2022 tho
Im playing WBC 3 campaign and dear god dark elevs are living up to the hype, whole campaign was going great, everything was smooth till
>high elf queen escort to lunarion mission
>dark elven ambush on the way happens
>all my strongest retinue fighters are there
>fight is starting when suddenly enemy hero starts teleporting around the battlefield like a fricking anime character
>its a level 30 assassin oh shit
>it kills the only retinue recruitable dragon
>it kills my high level reaver next and my champion giant
>this fricker killed my strongest bodyguards just frick my shit up.jpg
>barely kill him and barely win this ambush with my hero under 50hp
>next fight is defending against dark elven assault for 30 min
>they actually keep attacking the whole time with no pause
>all three datk elven armies keep building towers and advancing
>in the meantime my brainlet high elf ally barely builds any defences
>he fricking sends his army in a suicide attack
>his hero gets killed during the attack
>it doesn't even kill many of them just keeps a lot of fooder units back and they just join the next wave with blackguards and spellcasters
This was actually the most challenging part of the game thus far, even fighting demons to collect those keys was easier, also they sent a fricking titan like 15 min in during the survival mission and since i have that latest fan patch that thing had it's stats doubled, i barely took it down with what i had
lol, I once destroyed Kargoth in that mission by just summoning about 20 skeletons and throwing them at him
dark elf assassins are some serious bullshit
about the only actually counter to them is summoning hordes of trash but then you get people crying to nerf summons instead
>Class designed to overkill one character gets beaten by ovewhelming it with a horde.
Seems balanced to me.
>that mountain pass mission in WBC 1 that's full of dark elven assassins
Main story missions are actually easier than quite a few side missions, that's where the fun of this campaign is, traveling the map and beating the shit out of everyone and completing all the side quests, not to mention that there are far more side missions you can take than the main story ones, and completing those makes the main story missions even easier, story is just there to give you an excuse for the rest of the campaign and the whole world map quest stuff imo
I still remember my first ever campaign, by the time i finished the main story I've fought around 90 battles, 10 of which i believe are the main story
Funniest mission is the troll hunt mission.
Anyone knows the best way to get some crowns early on in the chucks conquest campaign in the protectors mod, i need to upgrade and apparently i wont be able to use units above tier one town center if I don't research it first, it's pretty fun but I'm getting stomped by the ai after a few battles cause they get all of their units and i only get some basics
who else liked wb2 more?
And for some reason in my copy of 3 the summons were timed so my favorite of Daemon Summoner was not nearly as fun to play
i think fan patch does this - the timed thing
Yup. For some reason the GOG version comes packaged with it. Maybe other versions too idk.
Is there a patch/release for WB2 that works on win10? The GOG version is full of bugs
>The GOG version is full of bugs
like what? it worked fine for me
The atmosphere 2 evoked is unrivalled, and I'm not too sure why but the palette of the maps were so comfy to look at.
Agreed - just the grass looks so good for some reason.
There really is something about WBC2 that 3 fails to capture. The openness of 2's campaign is a huge bonus too. Starting off on that dumb island of dead elves on every hero in 3 gets old real fast.
I love both but WBC2 simply has better aesthetic when you look at the game as a whole, I don't know what were they thinking when they changed the way dwarven infantry looks, also much more engaging campaign, you're conquering the world and battles get more and more difficult with the race stronghold fights being very fricking hard, i still remember first time taking the human stronghold as orcs, it was a massacre, it started easy but they just kept sending bigger and bigger armies, at one point i thought i was winning and i captured half of one of their bases only to be assaulted by a massive force of cav, archers and catapults from the second base while my reinforcements got demolished by cav and wizards near the bridge as they advanced from the side, and they pushed me back all the way to my base, and stuff like this happened often during this most relevant battles, in WBC 3 on the other side "main" battles are a joke, final one being way too easy, you also get lost doing all kinds of things around the world map that you forget there's a bigger goal, in WBC 2 every victory is a goal as you slowly take over the world and most of them give you bonuses so theres insensitive to do it so it makes bigger battles easier, in WBC 3 becoming stronger only matters for more difficult side missions as you can basically just go from one objective to another and complete the main story in a short while without any bonuses, now WBC 3 campaign can also be fun but it's just not the same, it's more of a adventure than this big war or conquest and the main bad guy is a pushover, WBC 2 just has a superior campaign that's extremely replayable, WBC 3 campaign is great if you want to make new heroes and explore the world map and do whatever, but it just doesn't feel as engaging
>every reply is pro-wb2
Man, I hope that anon is still working on that mod. It would be great to play the split human factions in wb2.
>TFW there will be no more Warlords or Battlecry games
>They'd probably ruin them by inserting politicking bullshit and not even re-hire the guy who did the art for Warlords III and the whole Battlecry series by that extension
Honestly if you're aiming for that level of scope your best bet is probably Total Warhammer
Also you were so close for a giga get
Heroes of Annihilated Empires did a good job at combining both the massive scales and RPG elements. You don't need everything to go Total War.
Is the protectors the only mod that adds now avatars and portraits to the game?
Don't think there's a mod that specifically adds portraits, there is 1.03.5 mod that adds new races, classes and more magic with some other things, it's pretty fun although new races look kinda jank, also there is this tutorial about adding your own portraits
https://www.moddb.com/games/the-protectors/tutorials/how-to-add-your-own-hero-portrait
I ironman all my heroes.
I do to.
Then some loading clitch happens and it kills if my hero.
Have some progress info on TPC cause i know quite a few of you guys don't use discord
Yeah, groups can be pretty big tho, just use command groups
sell me on warlords and warlord battlecry.
Skirmish is my favourite mode to olay as random map generator is pretty solid and there are quite a few modes to it, campaigns are alright, second gane has the best one and overall the most consistent art style, first game has story driven campaign with two routes, second game has a world conquest complete with bonuses from different territories, unique zomes, enemy strongholds, artefacts, mercenaries to hire and so on, oh yeah all games have a pretty complex hero lv up system, for the third game it has been simplified but it still allows for different builds of same hero/class combos amd removes race limit for certain classes meaning you can combine and frick around as mich as you want, hero s also get artefacts they can use, third game gets a overworld map where you can travel around the world and you can complete quests and do whatever you want, main story isn't really engaging but it's mainly a plot device for the adventure campaign
nice writeup, thanks
It's nothing, sorry for all the grammar mistakes and this is without going into detail as there are many races and hero classes, and that's without talking about the protectors mod which adds each of the wbc3's 16 races multiple subfactions, which change a lot even the playstyle of the race as a whole at times, like there's an entire orc subfaction that specialises in goblins
Warlords 2 is better than Warlords 3 pleb
I've only tried that one and jumped directly to 3 honestly, what makes it so good, I've heard some things about custom factions i think?
>one of the factions in the TPC are minotaur pirates
What, i mean it is a cool idea but where are they getting this, are all these various warlords factions, are they getting them from old manuals or something?
Nearly everything in TPC is just loosely based on some brief mentions in Warlords, WBC and Puzzle Quest games. it's basically the mod makers' headcanon.
Wbc 3, Dragon maze
I used to play warlords battlecry and do that spell all the time that summons artefacts out of thin air.
I like the way the music works in the first warlords battlecry. When you start to fight the epic music picks up.
Which is the worst General unit as
a) pruduced unit
b) retainer?
City of artifice in TPC is peak dwarves my god
>cannons
>they brought back old dwarven infantry aesthetic
>all the upgrades for infantry and various siege engines
>mortars are cheap and add a little to population limit (i think) so there's extra insensitive to mass huild them
Beautiful, previously i made a screenshot of my fully upgraded dwarven army fighting off multiple barbarian armies but for some reason it only saved a screenshot of my desktop screen, i tried taking another one but it happened again, anyone know how to fix this?
some games can be fricky to capture, try turning it to windowed mode and then print screening before turning it back off
Fraps is exceptionally good at capturing screenshots/videos from games that otherwise refuse to be captured
the trial version has only BMP screenshots but you can open that in Paint and save as JPG or PNG
I see, i will keep this in mind, thank you anons!
f9 takes screenshots and saves them in documents
Does Warlords III (NOT Battlecry 3) have a proper resolution patch? It looks fine with dgVoodoo2 but it'd be nice to play it in native 1080p
Voodoo might actually be the best option anon
Does anyone know if there are limits for retinues?, as in what units can be part of it and at what level. ive been trying to get golems as retinue when playing my dark dwarf runemaster and the only unit i have as retinue is a random earth elemental.
the only limit I remember is that they needed to be at least level 4, don't know if tpc is different though
You can't get mechanical units (golems and siege engines), dragons, and titans obviously. Besides that, I think every unit is eligible, they just need to get some XP.
You can definitely get bronze golems as a retinue.
Ah, you're right, I remember I had one. probably a special case because it's a general.
>mechanical units (golems and siege engines)
>dark dorf roster is mostly golems and siege engines
Why the frick should i invest in charisma, frick
Whens new protectors?!?!
All we know is this year, probably in a few months, also devs have said spellcasters will be able to cast spells from within towers and ferries in the new update, so now you can put units like dark elven mages inside and cast aoe spells on units attacking the tower
This game needs some "upgrade army capacity" research like in dawn of war for example to. To avoid having to do this
>upgrade army capacity
cool idea imo, you could add some utimate apocalyse style so for example - doing quest add more cap, owning arifacts or mines etc or even some misions or skills granting permament bonus
Certain armies already have this, while other have buildings that give more unit capacity than regular buildings.
Honestly the minotaurs are in dire need of that since their regular buildings are big as frick.
Minotaurs are already OP and building size is an interesting way to balance factions
I tried playing WBC3 a long time ago but I got filtered by the first level. I had to slowly watch my units crawl to one corner of the map to kill some random enemies, then watch my units slowly crawl to the top of the map to exit the level. That movement speed bros...
Anon... You can press+ to increase gane speed
I had it maxed.
What subfaction? Maybe they used resources from previous games as they look pretty similar towbc3 usually
Where did you find that illustration?
it's on one of artist's webistes/blogs
Fresh sneak peak into the new conquest campaign coming with the big update of TPC
>it is kind of hard to see, but red player has wbc2 fortifications on this map auto-generated
So apparently you will have an option to give the enemy pre built fortifications on randomised maps
Quote is from one of the devs btw
God I wish the editing tools for W2 would be updated, shame that W3 scaled back on their flexibility in certain aspects.
What would be the best Warlords game to start with for a newcomer?
Their gameplay/buildup/turtling flow appeals to me and I love it when I've finally advanced enough that my drunken horde just roflstomps everything in its way.
>create a wood elf ranger, focusing on running and nature magic
>not really feeling it in the first match and the game gives me a bunch of warrior items at the start
>delete and make a barbarian ranger with a focus on running and combat skills, with support later on, completely neglecting spellcasting
>the game gives me a bunch of druid and wizard items
Sometimes I wonder what the game is trying to tell me.
Try sticking to your choices till they get some levels in
Playing warlords 3 here and is there a way to skip watching enemy turn, I'm enjoying the game but watching every single unit move across the map is annoying, especially since i already see the bar on the right which has all the information about every single enemy action and i can already see their position on the map so I don't really want to follow my enemies as they send singular eagles across the map to reinforce their armies
Wait is that how big griffons are?! I always thought they're the size of a horse probably a bit bigger but not this
It's just the artist they hired deciding it would look cool to have a frickhuge griffon carrying off a horse.
I like that, i am playing with the latest patch but I'll make another hero, i just had to make a dragon hero when i saw that dragons are a faction
Was that knight commander guy in WBC 1 campaign put only to compel the player to go for evil route, cause I'm gonna do it just to kill this gay
Man ai in warlords 4 cheats with units, every time i take all of their cities and they have the last one they pull out new armies like out of the hat
Did George rrm actually copy that quote from Carr?
>is rape-rape a hack
Why, yes.
raise skeleton
Tried warlords 4 and I'm not feeling it. Something seems off.
If you tilt your monitor back far enough you can see her areolas. Little kid me had his mind blown by this
Holy shit
I fapped to it as a teen.
Who wins?
Left is faster. Probably like the dwarf runner. Right has that ranged attack with crushing damage. 1v1 right wins.
TrrT is fast and a heavy hitter, but not nearly tanky enough to deal with high speed and crushing damage of ollllo's double projectiles
whoever finds a sheep
Reminder to get a few trolls in your retinue as minotaurs as you produce sheep for healing and removing debuffs, keep the sheep on auto production and have your trolls grab as many as possible and have them go to town on the enemy as your minotaurs hold the line, gotta admit tho, to this day I don't understand why trolls use sheep as ammunition.
Have you seriously never heard of the Troll and the goats parable?
Now i have
>more than double the shoulder wideness
>dual shitflinging
Right no contest
>Warlords IV setup: installing fonts
And it freezes there, frick. I just wanted to check out these Warlord games.
Lore implications of Asterix and Obelix being canon?
Is that actually from one of the games?
Not him but i believe this is from WBC 1
Oh shit i remember this pic but i forgot who's in the background, kek, based devs
Yes, it's the Druid class portrait.
so where do I get number 3 and the best mod? TBC is it ? is there a lot of lame fiddling to get it all to work? seems pretty cool, theres a multiplayer scene?
All games are on gog and TPC, the protectors mod, you can find on moddb, unfortunately you'll have to join their discord for multiplayer, fortunately mod has both third game's campaign and aforementioned conquest campaign previously made for3 and both are extremely replayable with a bunch of other custom campaigns but these are my favourites, and ai is decently challenging
Might as well give TPC a shot but personally I'd suggest you start with 2, then try 3, THEN try TPC. I think TPC messes with the formula a bit too much - a one step forwards two steps back sort of thing.
Oh they are different for sure, and second game might actually have the best campaign in the series, if anon doesn't want to buy multiple games i say even pirating WBC 2 is a good choice, it's definitely a game worth at least one playthrough
the mod is beta version buggy mess, don't bother
Top tier races in my opinion include
>daemons
>minotaurs
>dark dwarves
>undead
>high/dark elves
God, I love Dragon Knights.
Just found out undead heal faster on the rain, damn, i already knew races get certain bonuses if they fight during the day or night thanks to the fact so many races can change daytime but i didn't know weather had impact as well for some
Pretty sure demons or fey also get bonuses during storms/rain.
There is reason why Necromantic magic have spell to make it dark and rainy

Anon, what are you talking about? I don't really see people complaining
he just said "have a nice day"
"have a nice day" is never an appropriate response. The fact you think it is just shows why no one likes you because you always let your anger issues on others.
Did you get lost, little girl? Tumblr is the other way.
gay you forgot your wig there
Stop shilling your discord then
>post removed
Lmao
Funny how he said have a nice day but he did it himself. Maybe he felt bad for being a permanent crying baby.
Anyone have a gif of the Liche walking to the left or right side?
I think he's funny.
How goes your harem, Empire chads?
I'm glad most elf units are male.
I just want a high elf hero(ine) as a secondary commander or for my retinue
is that really so much to ask?
never ever
High level pixies are unironically great bodyguards for my mearchant with their combined damage and good range
I personally prefer dryads as they have the bullshit op damage type and hit like a truck but I imagine pixies are much cheaper to bring along
Dryads are way more viable for scouting, taking mines and hit and run actions.
Finally got all the Battlecry games from GOG sale. Started with the first one, so far loving how comfy it looks and sounds. Is it going to get frustratingly hard later on? I though I'd blaze through the first one then spend more time with the sequels.
Not really, if you don't try to make your hero jack of all trades and if you play aggressively you'll beat the campaign fast, both routes
First game have this charm what rest of series didn't replicate (even if they are still better)
just play as pyromancer and the game becomes a joke, still fun though
Minotaurs are based and more strategy games need minotaur/beastman factions
minotaurs are great, why bother with dozens of different units when you can just throw a bunch of drunk berserk bullmen at something
That also reminds me of a case when the AI made a big army with a titan, like 50 normal troops and a dragon or two - and got completely stuck on a bridge, while I destroyed all their buildings with impunity.
and Wb2 they were smaller
i kinda liked old desings more
Best mods?
Aside from P*otectors
are there even any other mods?
If I rmember right, whatever passed for mod tools was damn near impossible to get
The widescreen mod is great
Man, high level fights can get crazy intense in TPC.
Was fighting 3 demon armies where each pit was spawning a unit every 2-3 seconds.
necromancy is bullshit
Alchemy polymorphing an entire army is way more bullshit then anything necromancy has.
>instantly kills all your units and turns them into skeletons in your path
>oh you sent a dragon at me too? guess now I have a dracoliche
necromancy is bullshit
Yes.
>4 months and still here
>AoW thread is 40 days older
Doom Knights are invincible :^)
Yes
I wish nature magic wouldn't suck.
Ice magic too.
ice magic is kind of a weird one
its like a shittier fire magic but they tried to make it seem different
at least the slow effects are useful but not much else
Nature magic is fine, what are you talking about?
>Roland MT-32 version for Warlords 2
Not sure which is better tb.h. I'm so used to the beeps from the regular DOS.
Whenever I saw the thumbnail in game I thought it was some kind of foot with brown pants on
Ok
>want to take a quest
>it's a riddle
>close the game, pretending I'm not a brainlet
Same
>take a riddle quest
>know the answer so type it in
>it doesn't work
>look up the riddle to make sure I'm not making a fool of myself
>Internet says I'm right so maybe I typed it in wrong
>try a dozen different variants with and without caps
>nothing works
FRICK YOU TPC THE ANSWER IS "EGG" NOT WHATEVER STUPID BULLSHIT YOU HAVE INSTEAD
Fully upgraded gladewardens in a full group feel like a machine gun
All upgraded archers are OP, for far too long I used to underestimate them because of low stats.
The problem is getting there for the wood elves.
High elf archers are better from the get-go.
>DarkElvesLaughingInPoisonArrows.jpg
Poison is annoying, but I wouldn't rate it higher than overall better base-stats.
>enemy hero has high Combat
>stunlocks everything
>my hero has much higher Combat
>stuns something now and then
What am I doing wrong?
Weaponmaster?
Warlords 1 and 2 dont have a campaign right?
No but illuria and erythea are meant to the "main" maps.
warlords 3:
how do items works? Why only some items remains after a mission while other are gone?
Very frustrating not having flight from the start
I was actually going to ask the same question here. I guess it's intended so your heroes wouldn't be too overpowered from the beginning, but they should at least give you a choice which items you want to keep.
any news about when the next update to protectors is coming out?
Just started an Ork Bard run in Warlords:Battlecry 3. Just gotta remember to build properly for the barbarian lords challenge cus every time i forget about it they end up fricking me.
Do they level up with you?
I don't even remember. I think that they are somewhere around lvl 20~21. Locked at that level.
By the way, someone once tried to make a Warlords mod for Civilization V.
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/warlords-battleciv-a-total-conversion-mod.543705/
>dark dwarves and the Empire
>neutral
I'm already triggered.
At some point I wanted to write a /tg/ game loosely based on the style of WB, with players playing heroes but also commanding armies. But it never left the concept stage since it be basically just another wargame.
Are dark dwarfs evil? They're corrupted dwarfs but they don't seem that evil.
>Are dark dwarfs evil?
das racist
According to the wiki, they have the alignment neutral, which surprises me. I thought they were evil. Empire is also neutral in that.
Although, normal dwarves and ssrathi would also be neutral according to the game.
The WBC3 manual lists the races in 4 colors.
Yellow:
>Knights
>Empire
>Dwarves
>High Elves
Green:
>Barbarian
>Wood Elves
>Fey
>Ssrathi
Red:
>Minotaurs
>Orcs
>Demons
>The Swarm
Blue:
>Undead
>Dark Elves
>Dark Dwarves
>Plaguelords
I thought those colors are supposed to refer to alignments (Good, Neutral, Evil, Very Evil).
The thing is a purely good society simply doesn't exist.
Even in three the "good" Empire colonises the "neutral" Ssrathi (who have a caste system) and the Empire is not depicted in a positive light for it.
Also I would go for
>Yellow
Civilised neutral
>Green
wild neutral
>Red
wild evil
>Blue
civilised evil
>etheria in ck2
Stop, my dick can only get so hard
There are both Forgotten Realms and Warhammer mods for CK2, and Etheria is as you mentioned very similar to them, so you could cut a lot of time by using assets from those mods. Making the new map and fleshing out the county histories so the world feels alive would be the most difficult parts. As you said though, Paradox kind of killed Crusader Kings modding scene by coming out with CK3 and then just letting it sit idle for two years so it may not be worth it.
Got spear? Go fight
Recently had a friend visiting and he was looking at my installed games, never seen WB3 before. Did a quick match and we were laughing all the way at the barbarian voice lines.
>look at me biceps
LMAO!!! Got this as a random drop before even getting the gifts set!!! My hero is a necromancer, let the skeleton spam begin!
That's a nice get , damn
Warlords 3: DLR is currently a flash deal on GOG.
I remember playing it ages ago. It's one of the classics together with Age of Wonders, Heroes 3 and Disciples II.
💀
>staff of regret
Buy or no buy? Will i end up regretting my purchase?
I'd buy it just to see if it's cursed or something
Warlords 5 never ever.
maybe ubi will hit dust some day and someone will salvage few franchises from them
One can dream, that b***h is almost as big an ip pinata as EA.
How do I play this game online?
Tried using ZeroTier which is like hamachi but no dibs, couldn't find eachothers servers in the online menu.
No idea, i'm playing singleplayer. Also why not just play on Hamachi? Is Hamachi still a thing?
Email.
Is there anything more satisfying than casting strip flesh in the middle of enemy's massive army turning them into skelingtons
>11/09/21
Amazing how popular this game is here that it's threads are keeping up so long.
It is a great game and the copy i bought from GOG works on my Windows 10/64 PC with no need for patches etc.
How did you get WBC2 from gog working on win10?
comp mode for win xp sp2
It loads but only occupies a small part of the top of the screen no matter what I do.
You probably tried different compatibility modes, guess you can try reducing your home screen resolution down to game's resolution when playing or fiddle with game's resolution itself
Another great old school fantasy strategy game
I'm actually playing W:BC3 right now.
Get windows7
Get a load of this
.
I honestly feel like both thraeds actually share a decent number posters, myself included
Why are Demons so fricking expensive?
>Francis
>Francis the Black Mage
Yes, a fitting name for my black mage general LMAO!
>Francis was a good kid once but other students at wizard school kept clowning on his name making him turn to dark arts
honestly fitting backstory for a villian
Francis I of France made an alliance with the Ottomans.
>play the game
>finally remember that you can choose who you ally with
>don't attack the first snake settlements
>go directly to their capital
>parley
>and this will change who you fight against
I love the Warlords:Battlecry games.
What?! I thought i had to side with the empire, holy shit i have to replay this
Yeah, i've noticed that a lot of people miss on this and start attacking and end up being enemies with factions they did not have to be enemies with.
You should check the wiki for more information.
https://etheria.fandom.com/wiki/Warlords_Battlecry_Wiki
The true advantage of getting allies is having the difficulty for mission reduced.
I never noticed that. I played the game a lot a while back but now that i'm back the only quest that fricked me up was the barbarian chief's challenge. Frick those gaygets. Had to get up to lvl 22 with my necromancer to beat them and it was a real chore. Now i'm playing a merchant Knight and i'm just gonna skip them till i'm lvl 20+.
>spam some units to sandbag the enemy towers
>get in the enemy base
>capture all their buildings
>profit
>get slapped by a builder unit at 98%
>have to start converting all over again
Yea...don't sleep and micro your other units to protect your hero while he is converting. It's not that hard. If i a 40+ years uncle like me can do i'm sure that you youngsters would have no trouble with it.
>Get massive command radius
>towers, what towers?
That works too but i try and capture all the buildings at the same time and this generally means i need to get in tower range.
You can't convert towers, though.
The point is your radius is so huge you won't even know they're there.
Isn't the max range of command radius quite limited?
It's pretty big but there is a cap so you can't encircle the whole map in your command radius.
He means you covert the buildings behind the towers without being in tower range yourself.
Playing the Zhur scenario as dragons in warlords 3 dlr is fun.
>Level 7 Demon from retinue got banished
>Save is fricked
If you're playing WB3 you should know that you can get free lvl 6 generals from your home faction territory.
>for example as an Undead you can get lvl 6 vampires from The Realm of Death territory
wb2
Played WB2 a very long time ago so i don't really remember if there was something similar in its campaign.
There was a guy making warlords 3 maps in a way earlier thread. Anyone else created interesting maps for warlords?
Holy shit, I didn't need to see this picture up close.
>he doesn't like MILFs
GAY?
Apparently it's drawn after a real person. Looks a bit native american to me.
Looks like Maggie Gyllenhaal's face on Salma Hayek's body.
I wish i could but random map generator spoiled me
>random map generator spoiled me
I gunno. I personally prefer hand crafted maps.
Understandable but having a option to always play on a new map you don't know layout of makes me happy
>Xena: Warrior Grandma
>Xena: Yep, still got it
Is there a mod that improves the wall building?
Wall suck, why would you want to build them anyway? Just get more towers.
To keep all those knights away
I can't wait for the next TPC patch, look at these new two temples.
0.9 when, i wish I didn't join discord cause answer to every question there is either"fixed in0.9" or it's coming in "0.9" and I'm kinda blueballed niw
0.9 will unblueball you.
sure, once it comes out
till then my balls might as well be called neptune and uranus
what was the point of even adding cover
Tactical fantasy warfare
>cover
Wait, why.
Strategy game, especially RTS, modders are insane people who keep adding stuff to their favourite games all the time, for other instances look at dawn of war mods, BFME mods, total war mods, star wars empire at war mods, etc. bless their autism.
But what does it add to the gameplay?
I guess they want to make usage of ranged units more micro intensive so that blobbing them up and protecting with beefy or fast melee units isn't enough on it's own
How much effort does it take to make chaos magic useful? If that is even possible.
It's more luck than anything
>make chaos magic useful? If that is even possible
no
Just be lucky bro, cast same spell a bunch of times with a good modifier on cheap units to buff them to ridiculous stats and win, that simple
Tried that with an orc death knight on a bunch of goblins, just doesn't seem worth it for the amount of mana. Chaos magic needs like a 60% chance for a positive outcome to ever be really good.
Oh god I think I'm gonna- I'm gonna- AGH
Hot
is this from any of the games? or just from the same artist?
im pretty sure it isnt in any of the BC games
Warlords Trading Card Game, and I'm sure I've seen it somewhere in Warlords or WBC games.
You guys gotta move with the trend, focus should be more on P2Es now.
You might have seen it before but a cropped version. I've noticed that quite a few icons within the games are cropped.
I'm playing another WBC 3 campaign and I allied ssrathi, I'm playing a spellcaster tho so gift artefacts they have would be very useful, will they remain allied with me if i do the quest chain and take all of them?
IIRC yes, but if you do any other missions against them in New Selentia after that you will drop to friendly.
Ssrathi are too fun for me to betray them for the empire this playthrough, I'm going for different allies this time around
Anyone know of a let's play of this game?
I can only find this one with some decent commentary:
Have a really hard time deciding which hero and faction I want to tackle the campaign of wb3 with.
Was thinking of a knight bard as he's pretty great at supporting, but don't really like having a pure support hero.
Maybe a minotaur chieftain and focus on the barbaric races.
High elves are my favorite race, but played them a lot in past campaigns, and my current hero already has some levels from custom games.
Dark elf hero could be fun.
Chieftain is a great class cause it can become a disgusting warrior while also buffing your army, dark elf assassin is really good as well
Tried the minotaur chieftain with the condition that if I find good items for that class in the first mission I'll play that. Nah, got shit. Will be doing the bard instead, just allied with the empire. Will be a charisma/intelligence hero, but might keep some warrior items for the challenge.
Challenge is always a pain but i believe you can kite barbarian warlords into one another and they fight
didn't even think of that all the times I've done that quest...
usually just try to get it done early so there is less risk of getting one of them that put half his points into the +combat skill or strength raping me in 5 seconds
Yeah that's how i usually win the challenge, i get two of them to fight and try to kill them together and save most of my pots for the third one
You don't have to build your bard as a support hero. You can put points in the combat stats so you don't implode at the mere site of enemy units. You have to put at least enough to be able to do the barbarian's challenge, the fairy challenge etc.
Do changed stat from using chaos magic actually remain between missions if you use them on a unit in your retinue? Pretty sure the costs of units for retinues is based on the level, so maybe you can game the system a bit.
Not many people use chaos magic, try it anon
>Not many people use chaos magic
because its garbage
Test
failed
I am playing warlords 3 and I am hating it
the start was strong but now it's a slog, way too boring and I am only in the first campaign
Yeah, for me the problem was that it always eventually becomes a "moving troops from one end of the map to the other"-simulator.
download custom maps
>"moving troops from one end of the map to the other"-simulator.
you mean a "vectoring troops from one end of the map to the other"-simulator. I never thought it that much of a problem, but I enjoy logistics too.
>download protectors mod (current version + all patches)
>play original WBC3 campaign (fixed version)
>crash multiples times every now and then, but still manageable
>over time see that I'm running out of space on PC
>wtf
>investigate further whats eating up space
>everytime it crashes it creates an snappshot of the RAM and saves it on appdata
>over 200 Gb of space used for these snapshots
>unninstall mod
Just buy WBC3 from Steam or GOG and forget the mod
Snapshot?
Damn, i never had that happen but i can see that happening
I'd reinstall cause it sounds like something is fricked, I'm on my second campaign and my saves are tiny
>But the future of this "franchise" have being *ubisoft
Ubisoft owns something?
Yeah, warlords franchise, might and magic wasn't enough for the French bastards, and they still don't even really bother making strategy games with these
damn, and When I saw the logo decades ago for some reason I thought they were just distributors and not the owners.
specially because they already had Might and Magic...
Thats sad, but if Ubisoft goes bankrupt and sell their Ips, Lets hope somebody like THQnordic or one of thouse smaller but efficient groups takes a hold of it.
Overall rating : Imagine an Ogre twerking /10
Nice kill count
>no titan kills
weak
>taking so long to defeat the enemy that they can even make a titan
>all those battles and not even 10k kills
>Not purposefully building up to fight dragons and titans
This displeases my inner murder enthusiast.
Home portal is the most useful spell in this game
This is just in general truth for most RTS and TBS games, the ability to just return to either protect you base or replansih fast is invaluable
I never use it. The mana seems better spent summoning more imps to throw at the enemy.
I haven't but i reckon card games are always more intriguing, started playing cometh of recent and to be honest i have been loving it especially cause it's rewarding and very competitive.
What title do you recommend i start first?
Neptunia of course and then switch to warlords when you nut
I meant which Warlords title
III is the best (moar races, classes, polish etc.)
WB3 for Undead Paladins
Protectors for having an Undead sub-faction that makes Undead Paladins lore friendly.
So, would you say is fair when you hero alone can blow up entire armies by himself?
Where's that from - Warlords IV: Heroes of Etheria?
pretty sure that is battlecry 1
I knew it looked familiar somehow, thx. Haven't played that one for so long - I remember the story focused campaign being decent.
Yes, because enemy heroes scale
only problem is late game just becomes which hero can kill off the other fastest
Jist play a support hero and keep him protected in the base and grind them down through superior economy
superior economy even works if the enmy heroes comes close to you and blow them up with 1 spell?
I've never had that happen on 10+ different characters, I'd reinstall sounds like something is broken
That's a pretty cool idea anon ngl
hey that's a pretty cool idea anon, I'd really like a non-undead death knight with useful skills and magic this time around
I've had the game since the day it came out and did not even know you could do that...
I think the tool (Army Editor/Hero Editor) was made later on by the modders who made the Unofficial Patches (some or all of them are now involved in developing The Protectors mod if I'm not mistaken)
that might explain it
shame there doesn't seem to be a hero editor for the protector's mod as well unless I'm missing something
What is the best titan and Why is it Balora
>hits hard
>fast
>flies
I rest my case
Bane because he's a frickin lich riding a pimp wagon
Objectively correct, look how hard this mf is ballin
>"I SHALL return for (YOU)!"
How did Sartek even get killed he was an absolute unit, any warlords 3 experts can explain? He was alive in thet game i think
he turned on bane, and bane ripped him apart
Chaddead win again, barbarian minotaurs BTFO, how are unded consistently the most based faction in every strategy game they're in?
You don't frick with someone who's
this much of a pimp
You kill Sartek as Bane during the Bane's Revenge. It's the 3rd or 4th mission I think, doesn't even get a cutscene.
They did Sartek dirty
/ really are the best.
>Is that King Lunarion she's fighting there?
Yes, fair points for Lunarion but there's a significant downside to him where he's an elf
Yeah I guess that was a bit of an unfair comparison since KANG Lunarion belongs to the tall/blond/handsome master race who reminds neckbeards around the world of the chads who bullied them at school
High Elves are based.
>Warlords setting is obviously derivative of Warhammer Fantasy
Not only that, the elves won the war with the dwarves
Man I hate it so much that the Iceguard can't get their triple dmg bonus vs dwarves because of a hard coded bug. Do they get dat in Protectors mod?
>remember someone mentioned how four horsemen in warlords games are inspired by the biblical horsemen of the apocalypse
>decide to check it out
>mfw first thing i see is literally swarm of scorpion like locusts with horrifying human like faces and bodies like armour sent to torment humanity
I didn't expect it to be so literal
Oh yeah, also bible mentioned these creatures having big teeth like lions, also checks out
How strong would Gorgon have been, if they continued the series?
hard to say, on one hand he did have armies on the doorstep of each of his brother's capital cities, on the other he was defeated by just locking him in his house
Like other titans probably
So, once Ubisoft goes bankrup
who should buy the Warlords IP?
dunno who really would take on old rts ip?
...also TBS. I, II, III - Reign of Heroes and Darklords Rising, IV - Heroes of Etheria. Battlecry was just an RTS *spin-off*.
It is basically discount warhammer so anyone that doesn't want to have to deal with GW's bullshit I guess
anyone that would actually do something with it
though I would honestly just be happy that ubisoft is gone more than anything
>play WBC3
>that one mission where you have to kill three Barbarian heroes to get alliance with them
>one of them oneshots my hero
>another run
>hero gets surrounded by Gnoll mobs
>Assassinated
I'm never playing Ironman again.
pretty sure that barbarian fight is the just the games way of saying "this is what high level fights are going to be like so prepare to get rekt nerd"
Fey theme they use in protectors is peak comfy, damn
>great at taking out heroes, artillery, big units
>fast and good at establishing map control
>actually requres you to take good care of your hero cause he's powerful and can oneshot but is still vulnerable
>has both gold from each assessination and access to wealth so he can provide a pretty good eco boost and your army doesn't suffer cause your hero is combat focused
>makes brainlet warriors cover in terror
Assassin best class
truly the best class for bullying people
Anyone having any experience with an assassin that isn't a dark elf? Empire assassins get the wealth synergy and producing more gold should really help them, also alchemy for creating more potions. Some seem to swear on the fey assassin for invisibility.
Can confirm, both fey and empire assassins work great, just make sure not to neglect assessination skill in favour of others too much and you're good
I really like dwarves. OP towers and slow advancement ftw.
>battlecry wiki puts fey under the neutral factions
>most of their units have alignment: good
>apparently the barbarian unit is neutral, but the rider and warlord are good
Thinking about these slaying-skills and how they are cool for thematic heroes, but really not that useful.
Does any anon know exactly what sort of cheats the ai gets in the battlecry games with higher difficulties? Is it just a big initial resource boost or is it some constant thing?
I think in addition to resources they also get faster building/training speed too
Thanks anon. By the way does anyone know a trick to getting WBC2 to run lag-free on win10? It chugs when there's a lot of units on the screen for some reason. I tried the brainlet things like compatibility modes and no good so far.
For me setting the game compatibility to win xp sp2 and resolution to 1024 worked, old software is weird like that on new OSs.
>WB3s main campaigns first mission
>as fey
>tiny feeble fey infantry dies in the first encounter
>go back asking for more troops
>ship guy gets angry and gives me even more archers
Maybe less archers would have died if you gave me some fricking frontline?
get fricked fairyman
Yeah, fey are pretty fricked in the "no building" missions.
This venerable thread will soon be auto-sage, say something nice about it.
It was an honour lads, did we beat that age of wonders thread that was up for a long time btw? I was in that one as well and I'd like to know.
Depends what race and hero class are you playing, playing squishier races can be a pain during those, try to get units from other races for your bodyguards.
>squishier races
I played Minotaurs.
Oh, then i suggest you change your approach, try to bait their priests one by one without advancing too far and take them out first and then take out the army at the end, you could wait for the reinforcements for that part then.
We did it lads
We don't know exactly, they posted more screenshots on moddb a few days ago I think, also they apparently post updates daily in their dicksword and they make progress literally every single day, hopefully it'll be out soon.
>in
I meant on their discord.
It's been a good run, I believe we beat the aow thread by a good 40-50 days so we should hold the record for longest living thread on this board for some time to come
See you in the next one kings
Okay, are the ambush battles supposed to be impossible?
I blew all my money on extra points for the first ambush against the lizards and now I have to move all the way around, constantly dying to them.
Whens the newest protectors build coming out? I want to replay the game but I dont want to switch to a newer build after I've invested too much time into the current one
Well it's not like it's coming out tomorrow or in 2 weeks
Holy shit demon buildings look so much better in WBC2 than 3 - what the frick were they thinking when they changed them to generic evil ruins?
Just don't build them in a way to make troops stuck. Plan a bit and watch the grid.
That was a thing in 2 as well - in 3 they just take it to semi-moronic extremes.
Minotaurs are also way better in 2, though I think Orc buildings look better in 3.
Gentlemen, as we approach the end, I want to share this track that boosts my testosterone when it starts playing in battle in battlecry 1.
Good taste anon
Next patch is gonna change a lot of things anon, maybe you'll enjoy that one more, no idea when it's dropping tho.
