Warning these miniatures contain lead.

Apparently, these are from 1996. It looks like I may have a whole toxic mess.

This is unironically the reason I don't get lead.
I do not trust myself not to suck on them. I don't do it with plastic miniatures but the forbidden fruit aspect of lead might be too much.

it's about handling them and then the risk of them breaking and releasing lead dust into the air. Likewise for lead paint. Touching isn't really that dangerous, but when the paint starts breaking down into chips and flakes, then it starts getting into the air. Long term exposure is where the real problems start, in either case.

The thing is, you can just paint lead figures. It's metal, so you're gonna have to prime and varnish it anyway. The literal only problem is that you shouldn't scrape off mold lines and bits of flash if there even are any. Pretty good chance any lead model that's that old has been worn smooth by now anyway.

All the miniatures have extra lead cast lines that need to be cut and filed down. It looks like the base of one needs to be cut and filed down.

Then only cut, and do it inside a plastic bag or something so the bits that come off are contained.
If you really must file them, do it while everything's wet so it doesn't make flying particles.

I liked the bear swordsman. There are four figures. Maybe I paid $4? I see that people are selling them online for $20.

That should be made of "ralladium" rather than a lead alloy, that's right around when they switched off lead, and I'm pretty sure all of those blue packages are post-switch. Ralladium is kinda stinky, but it has zero lead in it. Also lead alloy is darker than that. I know it's hard, but just avoid eating them and maybe wash your hands after handling the raw metal.

This thread makes no sense. There are claims that the miniature is harmless unless eaten. And there are also claims that lead in gasoline was causing boomers trouble. However I doubt that boomers were suckling on gasoline. So how did the gasoline affect the boomers?

Inorganic lead, such as is found in lead alloy miniatures isn't well absorbed by dermal contact. If you swallow a figurine the body does a fairly good job of leeching some lead from the mini before you poo out the mostly intact model, which might be uncomfortable. It might require non-surgical intervention like endoscopic retrieval both to avoid discomfort, perforations of the digestive tract which could be life threatening, and to minimise exposure time.

The claims that only hazard is ingestion is false. Lead dust from filing or drilling can be inhaled easily and settle in the lungs where it is a hazard. Lead fumes from melting are easily absorbed following inhalation but unless you're doing it a lot grinding and melting are not very large hazards are are generally easy to avoid by wearing a mask, collecting the dust, and melting in a well ventilated space.

Leaded petrol used an organic lead compound. Organic leads are much more easily absorbed by the body than inorganic whether by dermal contact, inhalation or ingestion. The lead compound was volatilised by fuel being burnt in the engine. It was readily inhaled by everyone near a road and the large surface area of the lungs helped it get absorbed. Children were much more affected than adults due t differences in respiration rates.

The claims of stupidity brought about by the atmospheric lead due to fuel additives are specious at best.

    >teachers tell us to always wear breathing protection against smoke from welding steels containing heavy metals
    >get a job at an old workshop that does a lot of stainless
    >ask all the boomers why they don't have breathing masks since there's dust from grinding and welding everywhere
    >"eh, they were uncomfortable and honestly a bit gay"
Then boomers wonder why they get cancer.
