Yes, but not as much as some people were hoping it would be

Pretty much. I think the worlds started to drag by the back half. A plain snowy mountain, a whole bunch of islands that you don’t need to go to, and then a city you mostly don’t need to explore. The Pirates world is fun if you have the desire to explore, but it (and the crabs) are a pain if you aren’t.

I thought it was pretty fun. I was glad to be out of handheld game purgatory and back into big levels.

What even is the plot of kingdom hearts? I played 1 & 2 as a kid and watched cutscenes for 3, still no clue what's going on besides Disney characters and body snatchers

      Nobody knows, not even Nomura.

      >What even is the plot of kingdom hearts?
Up until KH3 it's all four-dimensional chess by Xehanort to reset the universe back into a clean slate and give it a fresh start where hopefully darkness won't take hold. (Yes; very ironic for someone using the dark.)

It's an end-justifies-the-means agenda; but one that Sora and co. are not willing to accept because they don't want the current universe and their lives and experiences in it to end up meaning nothing. They have a right to exist; taking the good along with the bad of that existence.

Basically, KH is Nomura's take on Autobots vs Decepticons:
"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" vs "Peace through tyranny"

except he kicked it up a notch from being about mere freedom, to the totally of existence.
Xehanort demands nothing less than a perfect existence and will ruthlessly plow forward until he gets it.
Sora and co. are willing to compromise.

Sora and co. are willing to compromise.

      (cont.)

At that point, it actually doubles right back to the Autobots vs Deceptions perspective:

Sora and co. realize that hearts will always have light and dark in them.
There can be no light without shadow.

But: you have freedom of choice.
And the point is to jointly carry strong hearts that will not let the darkness win in what choices you make.

Conversely, what Xehanort wants ultimately is just totalitarianism: if there will always be light and darkness in hearts, then he will keep resetting the world until he gets one that evolves along a path of absolute control, where people are not allowed to choose their own direction and thus also _cannot_ choose darkness.

      ...

And that's basically the entire premise of Kingdom Hearts in a nutshell.
Everything else is just Disney-Princess Power-of-Friendship window dressing.

Actualy, I should take the opportunity here to draw a parallel with Persona and Shin Megami Tensei:

        law bad; chaos good.

Yes, I think its much better than 2 and with the DLC better than 2 FM. The level design is a big step up from 2 and much closer to 1 and there are a lot of fantastic moments like fricking being dead and having to piece yourself together and travel to all the worlds fighting death and fight replicas of all 13 members of Org 13 in the big city while they rain lasers down and fighting old man xehanort in the land sea and air. Toy Story world is an all time best for the series, I think its the best Disney world in general. Pirates adventuring on the high seas is fricking awesome. Being able to store and switch keyblade transformation was satisfying as frick. Best Gummi ship world map (actually makes the world map a world map and fun to explore)

Not to say the game doesn't have a lot of flaws, the pacing of the story is very very slapdash. The re-used org 13 is dumb and feels like they're pointless for most of it except for you to have a big boss rush at the end. Kairi was useless again and needs the DLC desperately to be relevant. Dark World was fricking wasted, just being used as a single re-purposed boss fight from the prologue game and not letting you explore it at all. So was Scala but DLC turned it into a full level so I don't mind so much anymore. Time travel was always a dumb narrative device but it's basically baked in from D3 so I'll also forgive it a bit. NO FF CHARACTERS WHAT THE ACTUAL FRICK <the actual worst part of the game>

It was okay but all the story happens at the very end of the game for some reason

The game has too much gimmick shit that doesn't flow well together and it plays like a Musou with aerial combat. AoE spam on basic enemies and bosses focus on presentation over engagement.

Yes. It was a good game considering the short time it was in development.

Gameplay wise yes, it's really fun and the best in the series by far

It is very annoying though that the story doesn't start until the very end of the game.

      >They try to integrate the core story into the Disney worlds by having Org members show up
      >It doesn't really pan out and all the shit people wanted to see ends up happening at Keyblade Graveyard
      That's a shame

No because Disney fricked with it too much.
    >Frozen 2 is coming out, put the world in.
    >also put Let it Go in it's entirety because that's the thing people like
    >also Sora isn't allowed to interact with Elsa in a meaningful way because boys talking to our girls might upset our demographic. Have him stand in the background
    >also don't make Elsa look bad

The Frozen team fricked up the presentation but Nomura is the one who wanted it in. Also all the rest of the Disney worlds were fine even if Winnie the Pooh was one room.
