Why is it that every time I encounter a 4 hater on this site the very first thing they bring up is alt Tawna's design. I don't give a shit about it, it's such a small part of the game you can easily ignore it. 4 is easily the best Crash game to come out since Warped and I do consider it in the same league as the original trilogy. The gameplay is just as fine-tuned as the original trilogy and is just as much fun to beat casually, with plenty of extra stuff to unlock if you want. Yes it's a pain in the ass to 100% levels and I do consider it a major flaw of the game, but 4 is still a lot of fun to play despite that.
>>dumb bullshit >blog
Anon, I... It's really not that great if you weren't already in love with the initial trilogy. It's just more of the same, but without any major, or even minor improvements or substance.
I don't expect any deep lore or shit, but I'd like more fun gameplay mechanics. The masks just weren't fun enough.
Tawna's redesign says a lot about the game as a whole, since everything about her screams >How do you do, fellow kids!
It's very in line with how outdated the game feels as a whole, it's not Crash 4 it's Crash 3.5: The Greatest Hits.
>>It's very in line with how outdated the game feels as a whole

Now imagine if the game didn't have the generic pixie-punk psuedolesbian, and had a decent design for tawna.
Hell you can keep most of the design, just unfrick her facial structure, better balance her bodyshape, and you can even keep a big goofy spike-hair

It really wouldn't be much better. The new designs as a whole are still worse than NST's.

Hell no. NST's redesigns look like rancid dogshit. Playing the original trilogy I never imagined Crash and Coco as looking like mangy bug-eyed abominations.

This. I didn't care for the pseudo-realism of NST. CTRNF fixed it somewhat but 4's style is the right direction for Crash.

In general, yeah, they are, crash needs work. Coco needs her Hey Arnold looking ass head squished back into a regular shape, N-Tropy gently needs his proportions pushed back into OBJ_MOTHERFRICKER territory, because he's literally designed to look like one, Dingodile, and I'm really not sure how they fricked this one up is actually pretty lean, even when you consider he's bottomheavy being a Crocodile from the ribs down, I guess because they wanted a "Heavy" character in the playable roster. Cortex is a fricking lightbulb and they very harshly overcorrected how much of a fricking pug he was in the N-Sane/CTRNF design.
Honestly a lot of what's genuinely fricked is the same shit that was fricked with the Titans redesigns.
I thought the masks were great. Better implemented than the upgrades you get in Warped. What was it exactly that you wanted? If you wanted alternate playstyles there's alternate characters in 4 and they're all play pretty well without deviating too heavily from the core Crash gameplay.
Tawna's redesign says a lot about the game as a whole, since everything about her screams >How do you do, fellow kids!
It's very in line with how outdated the game feels as a whole, it's not Crash 4 it's Crash 3.5: The Greatest Hits.

What does that even mean? The remake trilogy which has that "outdated" gameplay sold great.
>it's not Crash 4 it's Crash 3.5
No, if you want to see Crash 3.5 look at Wrath of Cortex.

>Why is it that every time I encounter a 4 hater on this site the very first thing they bring up is alt Tawna's design.
Because it's fricking bad? The rest of the game is fricking terrible as well, but Tawna is just one of the most blatant tells. It's like going to a restaurant and aside from tasting terrible you find a rat turd in your food, of course you're going to make a big fricking deal about the rat turd.
> the very first thing they bring up is alt Tawna's design
Visually speaking, it sums up everything that is wrong about the game. It's like the original design of movie Sonic, we can see that the people involved did not know what they were doing.
>Why is it that every time I encounter a 4 hater on this site the very first thing they bring up is alt Tawna's design
Because it's one of the main things they advertised while simultaneously claiming they were trying to emulate the original games' aesthetic. She's not the only weird redesign but she epitomizes the questionable behind-the-scenes choices the game has.
None of the games were ever good, seething snoydrones were just always desperate to pretend like there was any other franchise that could reach or even approach platforming perfection like Mario. It's why you still see people trying to push garbage like Jak, Klonoa, Rayman etc, all dead franchises that fell to the wayside because none of them could even get close to what Nintendo had already achieved.
More of the latter. Crash 4 is a mostly 2D platformer with overly long levels and very basic gameplay compared to other 2D platforms that have come out in the past 15-ish years.
That's because it is if you aren't autistic about completion.
The issue is that the creates a constant negative feedback loop when autists spend 15+ minutes per stage combing for crates only to get wienerblocked at the end, multitudes of times.
I don't know why they didn't patch in a per checkpoint crate counter so that way you know where you fricked up. It would made things way more tolerable.
Crash 1 wasn't good, the remake fixed some issues even if it fricked with the gameplay.
2 and 3 are fine, CTR and Bash too. Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity are fine too. The hub world of Crash Tag Team racing is fantastic but the game itself isn't.
The remakes revived the series so hard that Activision got the studios a giant promotions to work on their biggest IP and save Blizzard, which meant that they only had the shittiest studio left to work on Crash 4, a studio they couldn't trust to give them time.
So yea, shocking that shit studio made a shit Crash 4 game
Ever since the original trilogy Crash has always varied in quality. There was an area after the Naughty dog games that all ranged from acceptable to terrible, and then with the revive we got 2 great games and then one terrible.
Crash has the potential to be great when put in the hands of competent developers that understands the IP, sadly Toys for Bob is not that.
Crash was always shit in terms of gameplay. Even back in 1995 nobody cared about the gameplay, it was all about the revolutionary graphics and camerawork
It's the "Disney Star Wars" effect. Everything that was bad before now looks infinitely better. It makes even half-finished stuff like Twinsanity look like a masterpiece.
>lets compare the iconic villain of the series known for his charismatic voice acting with a brand new character
Not exactly a fair comparison my dude, should compare Cortex to Dingodile instead which still isn't fair but makes more sense at least.
You'd have a point if not for the fact TFB literally said that this Tawna is "a complex and aspirational hero that all players will fall in love with."
4 is ok, it's just padded with boxes. Should have had more enemies to balance it out. Or split levels into more stages. The biggest issue is it's not very replayable with a 106% reward that isn't worth it.
Crash 4 is more of a gimmick ridden hell than Wrath and the levels are unbearingly fricking long. The fact that EVERY fricking level is a gimick level halfway through either with masks, sliding, chases, riding sections, jet ski or wall running or character change is absolutely fricking obnoxious. In the original trilogy at least the gimmick levels were their own things and the levels didn't overstay their welcome. In Crash 4 you're constantly dealing with these fricking gimmick sections in every goddamn level, and on top of being way too fricking long almost all the goddamn gimmick sections make backtracking impossible which is probably one of the biggest reasons collecting shit in this game is just an outright chore that even fans of the game tells you to avoid.
I wouldn't mind the levels as is if they were to do one thing and hear me out, add the checkpoint warps from Shadow the Hedgehog. Even that game had the sense that players may need to backtrack.
Yea because the game design was ass and instead of making a good game they just slapped a Band-Aid on it, thank god they had the intelligence of not asking you to beat every levels without dying and collecting every ring though
The hidden boxes are ridiculous. There is nothing worse than getting to the end of the level only to find that you missed 3 boxes that were hidden offscreen or behind a wall or something. I eventually stopped going for all the boxes because I wasn't having any fun scouring every level for them.
i thought 4s gameplay was fine, but the artstyle just felt soulless. also the music didn't have that original dude from Devo making it. just too far removed stylistically from the original. i'm sure if could have been better if they had the original naughty dog people involved
it just feels like 9/10 of all the 'new shit' they were trying to introduce for IAT just simply did not work or at most didn't impact the series as the devs wanted it to
There can never be a discussion on Crash 4 on Ganker due to the coomers. Yeah, I hate alt-Tawna's design just as much as the next guy, but its not the whole game. People just need to move the frick on holy shit.
The rest of the game sucks and nobody wants to actually talk about it.
You've got sunken cost spergs that shriek and cry that it's not bad because they 100%'d it and you just "aren't skilled enough to make observations that it sucks" like a TF2 competitive player desperately trying to convince people that A FRICKING PARACHUTE is overpowered and needs to be nerfed.
>shit artstyle >shit story >forgettable music >fricked up slide jump >hidden boxes everywhere >padding everywhere
Yep it’s shit, gonna stick to the ps1 games and twinsanity thanks
Twinsanity sucks dick, why do so many people here pretend to like it
It was a moronic linear corridor game with beep beep boop lame acapella music
WoC was better and it was an ugly buggy piece of shit
>Twinsanity sucks dick
It's a perfectly fine game, it's just unfinished.
Same reason why Wrath Of Cortex kind of sucks.
There's a reason it's such a massive pain in the ass to navigate the open world and there's "Traps" that lock you into stages you probably didn't mean to enter.
Crash 4 is just dogshit.
Toys for Bob can't design video games worth a damn. It just isn't a fun game. There are like four good levels.
Trilogy is still great and Twinsanity though unbelievably buggy and super overrated by redditors who think Oxford is a competent dev screwed over by Universal when in reality Universal is the only reason it came out in any form is fun. And of course CTR and its remake
I am still waiting on a NF PC port with skin for pic related
Crash 4 was a fantastic sequel to the original trilogy that slipped at its collectathon design stage. The 106% completion was a pain in the ass and the rewards was not rewarding. Time trials sucked. lol no they're not, the only level that comes close to Crash 1 difficulty is Cold Hard Crash, the game is otherwise extremely forgiving even in the late levels

Frick, first part of the post was meant for
Wrath of Cortex immediately becomes a much better and much more fondly remembered game, when you put it next to garbage like 4.
There is nothing Wrath of Cortex does better than any other mainline Crash, let alone 4. It's dogshit no matter what you compare it to.
lol for literally no reason other than you are butthurt that they retconned the garbage from that entire era and you suck at crash games
>Why is it that every time I encounter a 4 hater on this site the very first thing they bring up is alt Tawna's design.

Right in this thread. The people who pretend Crash was good are the same people who pretend other cereal mascot platformers were any good.
>Rayman
Rayman is rightful Nintendo clay, moron
crash had a rough transition
the first two remakes was okay
More of the latter. Crash 4 is a mostly 2D platformer with overly long levels and very basic gameplay compared to other 2D platforms that have come out in the past 15-ish years.
dunno i thought that 4 was decent

True, but I think a checkpoint counter would be more beneficial given the length of some stages.
