Isn't Dragon Quest made by Square?

Now it is but back then it was made by just enix. Squaresoft and Enix spent the 90s being rpg rivals till square bankrupted itself with some stupid decisions like going all in on the spirits within and ultimately had to merge with enix to stay alive.

Not true at all. Square-Enix merger had been in talks since before the financial issues. Enix was irrelevant at that point and Square wanted to absorb them but the financial issues only caused a delay in that

          >"This is an offensive merger," commented Wada. "The merger decision was made in order to further please game players, and in order to survive.
          >in order to survive.
Also according to the article from the time: Enix was hardly irrelevant as their leadership was kept in very high positions after the merger. It wasn't juggernaut eating a small company it was two big companies in varying degrees of trouble (both from internal and external forces) merging to stay alive. It may be possible that the merger was at least talked about before spirits within flopped but even still squares financial trouble is what forced the merger.

Mate they couldn't even get the merger done until after FFX was a massive success and saved their finances

do you not understand what a big fricking deal or what dire straights it has to be for an old Japanese boomer business man of the early 2000's to come out and admit one of the reasons for the merger was survival or are you being a stinky obtuse moron on purpose?

How fricking up your own ass do YOU have to be to still try to misrepresent the facts even after they've been explained to you.

You haven't refuted his argument. Being unable to complete the merger until after the success of FFX doesn't nullify the point. There are a lot of factors that go into a huge corporate merger those fricking things take many months of negotiations and lawyers and shit it's not surprising at all that the FFX affected the outcome of negotiations but that doesn't say anything about the original motives nor does it absolutely determine the final positions of Square and Enix post-merger.

actually I'd heard square's financial situation made enix hesitant to do the merger, but FFX and kingdom hearts completely turned their fortunes around and made enix want to do the merger ASAP
