Jrpg villains are never good but at least he was fun to hang out with before he went mask off
It is actually one of the best Final Fantasy villains made.

FFXV as a game is objectively pretty shit. Especially when you think about its gameplay, story, and characters for longer than a second.

That always goes both ways. The game had certain aspects that were pulled off well but, like any game, you have people on both sides who are extremely hyperbolic making it unlikely for any reasonable person to go too far to either side.
The director himself said making XV was hard for him because he saw the fanbase and realized that every FF game has a lot of fans and haters at the same time and he tried his best to not disappoint both sides

FFXV had great graphics but its painfully empty open world and braindead easy combat is exactly what stops it from being good game. The story itself is fricking stretched thin and padded the frick out in game because they wanted a multimedia franchise like FF7 without having even decent story or lore(or game). The characters are honestly boring even after watching all the shitty extra media. Don't even get me started on shit like Lunafreya which is the epitome of fricking cut content, her entire ""character"" is basically a void of personality.
Tabata fricking cut out anything interesting from the original concept and shipped the most blandest and safest FF product. Which of course he would because he was just a yes-man in charge of shipping a very expensive and troubled project despite only having mobile/handheld experience not fricking HD console projects which square enix as a whole company has been having trouble developing since the introduction of the HD era of consoles.
That's basically a short summary of just SOME of the many many problems with FFXV.
I would argue that the combat is just as braindead as most of the other games in the series but the gameplay overall peters out rather fast. Other FFs are either shorter, getting you to the next dungeon faster, or have lots of side content that is more than just filling journals with information.
FFXV did a pretty good job of the whole travelling with a party, camping, driving, interacting (regardless of whether the characters themselves are good) but the overall gameplay was lackluster and does not support a game of its length.

thing is a point I get stuck on with quite a few FF games that are otherwise rightfully considered bad games. FFXIII is another game where, especially relative to other FF games, I think it's combat is fine if not better than most of the other games in the series, it's simply the gameplay as a whole that's bad.
FFXV isn't great, but it's certainly not that much more braindead than most other FF games.

No, in the base game he's practically a literally who. Needing DLC to make your villain an actual character is moronic. He's overall very forgettable other than his wasted design.

I think he had charisma and personality when he was on screen, and that's what I gauge my villains on, so that makes him good in my books. Certainly a step up from most from the preceding games

I didn't bother playing the final DLC episode because I was pissed that they announced it AFTER throwing away all the modding promises for the game, but from what I watched on israelitetube, they laid in too hard about him being a victim of circumstance and painted us as the buttholes for trying to restore everything.
I've enjoyed my time with Final Fantasy 15
And I think that is one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made
