i think it's less that he's a sociopath and more "the ends justify the means". he probably has some kind of remorse for hurting the lake trio, since he treats his pokemon kindly(he has a crobat, he's kind to his pokemon), but i think his logic is that the lake trio's pain is a necessity for creating a new world, and their pain will be gone eventually anyway. it isn't that he doesn't care about hurting them, it's that he knows that hurting them is necessary.

Ghetsis was amazing, the patience he had and the cunning, the story around Ghetsis and what he did to N, how he manipulated people in the first games and then outright terrorism in the second while using the facade of ‘for the Pokemon’ made him the best villain. Then Lysander next, the same cover story except he believed the message and how far he went to ‘protecting’ Pokemon by actively destroying them. Messed up! I loved them both.

SWSH and SV have giant regional dexes but also have tons of older mons cut out from the code itself, just about every game prior to that had much smaller regional dexes, especially Diamond and Pearl that has a notably smaller regional dex than Platinum and infamously few fire types to choose from, BDSP is almost 1:1 to the originals.
IIRC you can find some Platinum exclusive mons in the underground so I'd do some searching down there.
